If someone actually playing the underlying game could play with tonyviet, would we have gotten more info on McPherson?

Yeah, that REALLY got on my nerves. They need to find a better way of doing this since there were several people just sitting in chairs taking up dead space while people who are actually trying to play the ARG (Konamouse, myself, and others) were stuck waiting. I'm tired of being excluded from finding anything good on the game.

Anyway, that's a discussion for somewhere else. Sorry.

My dial up is way to slow to fight for cards, so I thought I'd update the forum. 2 cards found.

Okay, update from chat... we have found 8 cards today. 1 from modern time 7 from 1929. We were told 8 cards today so we aren't sure if we've got them all or if we need one more from 1929. Names that are possibly cards but not found yet are: Officer O'Kelly (possibly Seamus), P.F. Strauss, Louise Rolfe (wife of Jack McGurn). No name combinations have worked for these names so far.

The girl they said couldn't testify as a witness was known as the blonde alibi, according to a Google search. Her name was Louise Rolfe. No cards turning up for her, though ...

Anybody think Officer O'Kelly is Seamus? Can't find a card on him either, though.

Edit: was typing at the same time as skywisej ... mostly repetitive info. Smile

The uncle is Reinhardt Schwimmer, "a young optometrist who had befriended Moran and hung around the liquor warehouse just for the thrill of rubbing shoulders with gangsters."

1929

For those who want to know how the seven 1929 cards were found:

The first name came from our friends at the D.C. Cemetery. They collected the dates of death of various folks. The days (excluding month and year), converted to letters via A=1, B=2, etc., spelled out Jack McGurn. He's a real Capone-era mobster, and his nickname was "Machine Gun."

McGurn has a telegram on his page, which refers to "Old pal Robert R." Lothar Barbel's page has a picture of the Gun's owner, ca. 1929, with a note indicating that he traveled under the alias "Richardson." Hence, robertrichardson -- who does have the Colt.

Richardson is accosted by a guy "Missing one eye." He idly wonders if the guy's name is "Jack," but he says his name is Mickey Ross. From the same concept that led us to the one-eyed queen Janet Brown, we get oneeyedmickey.

Some Kid comes charging into the Four Deuces -- a speakeasy -- looking for the man who killed his uncle. While a friendly cop named Officer O'Kelly -- widely speculated to be Lucky's Uncle Seamus -- takes care of the Kid, Mickey admires "the pretty jazz singer, Anita." Well, back on McGurn's page, we can see a poster announcing "DEFAZIO APPEARING NIGHTLY AT 9:00PM AND 10:00PM," which leads us to anitadefazio.

Anyway, the Kid's name is Pete, and it turns out that Mickey did kill the kid's uncle. A newspaper clipping about the St. Valentine's Day Massacre leads us to deduce -- by process of elimination, really -- that the nephew of one of the victims must be young Peter Schwimmer.

Peter, having been battered rather severely, is collected and led away by a kindly old fellow who seems to have a boxing poster on his wall. It's in lousy shape, but we can just make out that it is an announcement of a match between Battling Jack McGurn and Armageddon Jones. Turns out he's a Reverend -- or should I say a Preacher?

Finally, I forgot to mention that when Pete was trying to make trouble in the Four Deuces, Mickey heard "Mr. Jake Guzik say, 'Get him out of here.'" On Anita's page, we find out from Mickey that Mr. Guzik has a nickname: "Mr. Greasy Thumbs Guzik." Or you could just search on the web for Jake Guzik, who is a real historical person with the real historical nickname of Jake "Greasy Thumb" Guzik. Either way, you get to greasythumb.

Now, that's seven. Lucky said we'd find eight cards from the clues in the D.C. Cemetery. Is the eighth one really Tony Viet's girlfriend, Sarah Trinh? I think not.

Re: Mary Brown

Sorry for the double-post, but I want to clear up a genealogy issue if possible:

Raider wrote:
The letter was addressed to Mary (Mary who? Maybe one of the 8 cards. Not mary Brown, I tried that)

Mary had a child named Lionel and another son as well. Is it Lucky's mother?

I think the Irish thing was a joke about another possible father (possibly an old flame)

Arana wrote:
Who the heck is Mary? and why does Janet have the letter?

Lionel is Lucky's real name. Mary Brown (her married name) is Lucky's mother. Seamus is Mary's brother, and Lucky's uncle. I don't think the Irish thing is a joke; I think it's an indication of the fact that Mary and Seamus are Irish, while Lucky's father is a Brown. (This is one of the reasons I strongly suspect that the Officer O'Kelly we just met in 1929 Chicago is Lucky's uncle Seamus, who we know was a cop.)

Janet has the letter because Mary is her grandmother. Lucky's as-yet-unnamed brother is her father-in-law (Rick Brown's father), and Lucy's grandfather. (Note: I have heard a rumor that Lucky revealed the name of his brother in a poker game, and that it is Richard. Can anyone confirm this?)

Raider wrote:
The Brown family tree would say that Rick Brown was married to Janet and they were the parents Zach, Seth, Devon, and Lucy. This would make Rick and Lionel brothers. unless Janet kept her maiden name.

Rick and Lionel are not brothers. Lionel/Lucky is uncle to Rick, and great-uncle to Lucy, Zach, Seth, and Devon.

And because I've said it, it must be right. (Translation: YMMV.)

P.S. Thanks for the 'M' this evening, Raider! Very Happy

Shad0 thanks for the awesome summary! I knew what cards we got and was posting them, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how we got some of them. And others, I was just way too slow Smile (My dial up connection doesn't help either!)

So I guess Seamus' wife is also named Mary.

Johnny Dueces update

Between Babelfish and my own imperfect understanding from two years of high school spanish...
It translates roughly to:

Yes, nothing, nothing much...
...
Yes, I will be at the house Sunday to have supper
... Either Or. Wait a minute, I want to ask to something of you, brother
...
It's OK, I feel, I didn't say that
...
Listen, I have an east pawn ticket, and thought that
...
No, I do not need money, is not that
...
Listen
...
Listen
...
If I needed money, I would ask you first. Look, I needed to hide something, and I thought if I pawn it it can be recovered if it is needed (direct translation "and I thought if I pawn it to if it is solved")
...
But I want you to keep the ticket for me
...
Mother of God! you are pain in the neck (direct: you are a headache), you know?
...
No, seriously, thanks brother

.........................
Now, we know Matt went and stole the gun. Johnny has left the Pawn Shop ticket with his brother, so I think that may mean that Johnny may be somewhere on the hit parade list...[/quote]
