Difficulty scratching off silver panel?

I'm sure its not significant (other than maybe MC using dlightly different printing processes for different cards)

but is anybody else having varying levels of difficulty scratching off the silver panel on some cards?

In fact as I've answered more cards it seems that some sets (colours) of cards are easier than others almost as if they have a different surface coating

blue is easy
orange is easy (apart from 041)

yellow and green difficult

red was somewhere in between but the printing of the code seems different (silvery coloured ink, quite solidly printed rather than the dot-matrix effect on the other colours)

I have had trouble with the scratch-off panels on a couple of the cards, but haven't noticed a pattern and didn't really think much of it but I suppose you could have a point.

I had one card (think it was "The Master of Secrets") where the code was clearly visible over the top of the silver panel. It would be a little worrying for card trading if that happened too often.

I nearly screwed up one of my cards as one of the letters got scratched completely off a bit too much and I had to guess what the letter was, luckly I could see that it was either an N or M.

I was gonna post exactly the same topic until I saw yours, Timair.
Same with me, the panels on the blue and orange cards came away very easily, but they're a lot harder to scratch off the yellow and green cards, and leave grey marks behind.

I'd be inclined to think it's just a technicality of how the cards have been produced, but nothing should ever be completely passed off as a coincidence with ARGs unless the GM's confirm it.

Anyone else?

I've been checking to see how many back-and-forth strokes it takes with a 50p piece to remove every last vestige of the silver foil. Having collated them all now from wave 0.5, I've entered them into an Excel database table, with an external pivot attachment to a selection of random number/letter generators.

I'm pleased to announce that I've come up with the following results:-

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you have worked this code out, you really do need to get out more. Love, everyone at MC

So, what does this tell us?

[SPEC]Mind Candy have given us this as a kloo! It must mean that the Cube is hidden:-

I think your on to something! Have you checked the difference between scratching with a 50p instead of a 2p? Razz

I've just done that using Juxta's uber complicated work the answer is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Really, go outside...stop all this now.

Yes, it came to about 48p, if you round it up.

Funny though. Ive had a few cards with visible codes on the silver panel, hasnt really worried me much cos its the cards I'm using. I guess we'll just have to be trusting if we get a card in trade like that!

On a related note: Anybody had any cards with the code missing completely? I did on "the lake". I asked the nice people at MC what I could do and they replaced it for me for free!

Obviously I had to send the defective card back.

How did you send the defective card back?

I just tried to *gently* scratch the panel off my copy of syzygy cube and the entire printing came straight off, code and all!! Now I have no way to enter the code at all! I had that once before, but only on a green .....

I *think* that cardsSPLATmindcandydesign.com would be your best bet for starters...alternatively, generalSPLATmindcandydesign.com
