[SOLVED!] VaporLofts Johannesburg - nodes.html - hash cipher

The "no additional information provided" turned into a link to
http://vaporlofts.com/johannesburg/nodes.html

Oh no, it's more of this base64 stuff:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Also, there's morse in the content-tag of the page, going like this:
-.-. ..-. -... -... .-.. --- -.-. -.- / ... .... .- / /512 / / -- .- .-. ...

Translation:
CFBBLOCK SHA [there's a blank-blank here] 512 [and another one] MARS

Hmm.
CFBBLOCK = CFB block cipher ?

SHA-512 appears to be another hash algorithm. We had MD5, RIPE-MD and Twofish so far.
MARS seems to be connected to hash algorithms, too. Add that to the list.
VL certainly satisfies your cryptology fetish...

edit: holy crap! one of these stupid hash ciphers has been solved! - rowan

[SOLUTION]

Correction: MARS is another block cipher, like Twofish. CFBblock is a chaining mode of block ciphers, like CFB8bit. SHA-512 is indeed a hash algorithm.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I used ClipSecure to decrypt the text at http://vaporlofts.com/johannesburg/nodes.html using the MARS cipher set to CFBblock mode and the SHA-512 hash. My first guess at the encryption key was nodes . Much to my surprise and delight it actually decrypted! The result was backwards jibberish.

Decrypted, reversed and ROTted (ROT-9), it comes to:

Key points for gateway construction can be found worldwide. The company has selected four specific gateway points due to their locations with respect to existing company infrastructure, as well as their distance from each other in the event of a critical unit failure as well as for support of global expansion efforts in the face of inevitable success at the portal excursion zones. These gateway locations are to be established as promptly as possible; the company is currently developing sites at each location with as much discretion as is possible per location. The current gateway points in the company's developed system can be found in the following cities: ATLANTA (primary node) LONDON TOKYO JOHANNESBURG There are additional supplemental department nodes located elsewhere which are designed to support the progress of individual gateway points and portals. It is necessary for such an extended degree of compartmentalization of company operations in the event of international query and/or media investigation of current research, development, and security protocols. This comparmentalization allows for rapid disbandment of operations in any particular department which falls under scrutiny or suffers possible critical security failure.

Alright, so this isn't a huge breakthrough as far as information goes, but it is not only the first super-encrypted (block cipher in specific chaining mode with hashing) message we've solved, but also (on a personal note) the first clue I've actually solved first! Very Happy ::does little dance::

Excellent! Well done, and congratulations on your first solve!

Good job, caspian_x! Wink
Heavily encrypted, but we should always be able to guess the keywords. I guess you can put ClipSecure up as a must-have tool for what is there and what is still to come.

The information from the encrypted text is actually - sounding like it is - backing up our spec. London branch was high-jacked by the Firekeepers.
There are several "watch-dog" nodes like the one in Paris, occupied with security issues concerning the 4 big nodes.

However, there is nothing about Johannesburg there. It doesn't seem to be that important for the time being. I'm sure they are working on that...
