just wondering if the person in the diving suit is the same dude as the diver in the philipines.. the equipment is the same after alll.

and on the flag: what would an animated dutch flag do on a site hosted in Poland of a russian scientist without any apparent connection to the Netherlands?

greetz,

D.

No input on the face. The face could even be MJ

Was wondering about this:
An arcticdiver with his lips exposed to that cold water? Somehow I doubt it. So I did a little digging into the scuba world.

He's using this.

Though the equipment is cold waterproof (which I expected it not to be) and top of the line equipment, you would expect them to use a fullmask like this:

Just found this one but having a little trouble following it but it seems just my type of thing.
I am a diving instructor but have only a little experience in diving in water that cold. The regulator he is using is enviromentaly sealed which means it would not freeze up in cold water. This is nothing special as most regulators have this feature. Some people use full face masks but they are not very popular with a lot of divers. Most divers in very cold water would use a regulator that at least covers the lips but some do dive with an ordinary one.

EDIT3: The dutch flag mentioned is the same as the one on casper Shillings site.
I noticed that myself, until I looked closer. Flag of Russia, Flag of the Netherlands. Small difference, but one does exist (I'm guessing Europeans aren't that imaginative when it comes to flags Razz Then again, I can't talk Wink).

Good pick up on the domain though. I checked www.arkadysimkin.ru (the Russian domain), doesn't exist though Sad Neither does http://www.taurusmajor.ru/

Wonder if it means something, or was a simple mistake?

Because the russian flag is like this

Good spot on the pic and the flag, Draghkar! The diver seems to be set up for diving in ice-cold water, what with the special suit, the sealed regulator and the face mask, as well as the snow in the background. But Arkady was on a oil exploration team, travelling by ship and helicopter - why would someone be diving in the water off Franz Josef Land? Curiouser and curiouser...

It seems not so strange. Like boyscouts: Be prepared.

http://www.giantology.typepad.com/ updated today. Looks like the writer of the blog quit his job and is going to write a book about all things giant.

Let's hope the "readers" (possibly the actual guy posing) will post some hints as to what to look for/in.

The Giantology update has an image that the owner plans to use as the cover for his book. It is one of the pictures from the Philippines discovery. There is a reference to Ed, and a link to his site, but there is no mention of the Blog-owner having received permission to use this image. Does anybody have any idea concerning the legality of this. More importantly, does anybody think that this is pointing to something special about that particular picture? I don't have any of my picture editing software installed right now, and don't feel like analyzing two images in MS Paint, but is it possible that there are any differences other than the obvious (ie. added title and border)? Just my two cents.

The Giantology site updated again.

There is not much there besides a few links, so i'll just quote it here:

Quote:

Here's a piece of news for anyone who questioned whether the tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, actually did uncover ancient relics and structures.

Take that, doubters.

Another factoid:

The Asian Tsunami occurred on Dec. 26, 2004.

The Bam Earthquake occurred on Dec. 26, 2003.

Is there a connection? And if so, should we be concerned about Dec. 26, 2005?

Does this mean there will be an update on Dec 26th? and if so, why wait so long? Confused

I expect a "BigBang" on 26th, not the next update. Trying to keep us on edge for the future.

On the cover and the 'original': The centre pic on the cover is a pixel for pixel copy of the pic on the site cept for the added black line. The border (with the text on it) seems to come from some other source. Could be just a cgi waterripple effect to match the centre-picture.

[EDIT] Took a nother look. The border is a enlaged cutout of the centrepic with a ripple-effect applied to it. The dark ripple in the top is the diver. Only the bottomleft has been darkend a bit. This looks like just an artistic solution to enhance the contrast with the centre pic. I could be wrong on this but I doubt it. "Nothing so see here, move on folks."
