Leaderboard Adds to Top of the Pack

By KATE BREWSTER

The Earth leaderboard for Cube retrievers added three newcomers to the second place this week. Honest Goblin, Bert, and 5teven join the twelve tied for second place, with 1920 points each. Player oliverkeers13 remains alone in the top position with 1994 points following his mysterious acquisition of unreleased second-wave cards.

Honest Goblin became the first to solve card #181 Down, A, B, Up, Up, Right, last week. The card has infamously suffered from production problems, which Mind Candy has now rectified by providing additional information on the solve page for that particular card. It has since been solved by over 80 additional players.

No other first-solves of first-wave cards have been found. There are now a total of five solved second-wave cards, however -- joining olverkeers13 is Ryanandrew, who has solved three second-wave cards, though he remains in 14th place. The second-wave cards Ryanandrew has solved are #143 Pocket Rockets; #21 Divide by Three; and #20 Barbeque. Sources at Mind Candy remain as puzzled as ever on how second-wave cards have made it into the wild. Second-wave cards are not yet available for sale, though Mind Candy insiders are optimistic that it will be soon.

Interestingly, the most-attempted cards do not appear in the list of most-frequently-solved cards. Card #112 Three Little Words has in particular been attempted over 900 times, though a correct solve was submitted as long ago as 11th October. Excluding the unreleased second wave cards, the most-solved card, #25 Read Between the Lines, has been solved ten times more often than the least-solved card, #244 Syzygy Cube.

This week topped last week's solve numbers. Players this week solved over 3700 cards for nearly 80,000 points, bringing the totals to over 19,000 cards and 412,000 points to date. There are over a thousand ranked players, now, and the average player has 405 points.

Futures

By Madame Bianca, for the week of November 7

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Time management escapes you. Now is a very good time to start examining your data environment and do a little selective tweaking -- even the most beautiful garden needs some pruning and weeding now and then.

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
I never did know what you saw in her, and it looks like after this week, I won't need to bother about it anymore. Brace yourself, muffin. Sometimes good things only come through hardship.

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
Only the bones that bleach upon the plains, only the fleshless skeletons that lie in ghastly nakedness and silence, cry out mutely that naught else to him remains.

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
Time for you to start trying to relate to people a little more unlike you. Seek out and befriend a Dragon or a Spider. It's one thing to rely on the judgement of people you trust, and another thing entirely to only trust the judgement of the people you rely on.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
This week, words fail you. Which is to say, the words that you do come up with are invariably wrong, be they written or spoken. Better to keep your lips tight and work on being a good listener. It's all about the damage control.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Your horizons have become a little too wide, sweet pea. Winnow your interests some. There are only so many hours in the day, even for you, and there's no time to savour if you take only the barest taste of each thing.

The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
The next few days will take you through a real confidence-shaker. Now isn't the time to make with the self-doubt and get all introspective, honey. There's time for that after you have what you want, 'k?

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
A mental fog has descended upon you, I see. Now isn't the time to break into enhancers, though -- this one is brought on by the stars and not by any sort of imbalance. You'll bounce back to your usual self before too long.

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
That whole earnest and sincere act isn't going to fly with me, duckling. You can talk about your principles and ideals until you're blue in the face, but make sure you know your own motivations. You can lie to yourself, but I'll still know the truth.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
Don't wear light colours this week. At least, not if you value the garment. Oh, and try to stick to dry foods. You're going to have a dazzlingly comic way with a glass this week, and forks won't be your strong suit, either.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
The time is coming when you'll be called to account for all of the using and abusing of those around you. You may have danced through it before, but some of us are frankly getting right tired of it. A veritable uprising may be afoot.

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
This week is going to be positively dull for you. I'd suggest you try to come up with a way to burst out of your ho-hum haven, but I know what's in store for you next year, so trust me when I say you should cherish this downtime.

And remember, the one who wins gets to describe the struggle.

Corrections

Quote:
We recently ran a story with an incorrect spelling for the name of a Cube retriever from Armenia. The correct spelling is Sasuntsi Davit.

Nice little parting shot from Madame B. this week - "And remember, the one who wins gets to describe the struggle." Remind you of anyone we've met recently?

A new sentinel ad, this one fFor seaside press. Linking directly to a new site:

http://www.seaside-press.com/

Looking through the site reveals some goodies we know of previously, such as Earnestine Kohler's ''Earth is a Noun'' (She is typoed at least once as "Earnesine Kohler')

{line breaks mine - Atrophied}

The Apple-Thief references Emily Pauline Johnson, (Tekahionwake) (1861-1914), this week. It is the last stanza of her poem "Silhouette"

Edit - After some research I found that Tekahionwake is her Mohawk name (she was the daughter of a Mowhawk Chief)

Hmmm. Is Mme. B weighing in with her opinion of the war exhibition?

just the old "The victor writes the history" -- always been true -- its why why the "heroes who always win" are the only ones we hear about

truth is likely to be very different to written history but its difficult to discover

Only in the short term. Once you get a few disinterested parties investigating truth tends to be exposed.

If there are not a sufficient quantity of reliable evidences from the era under investigation, it is difficult to form any sort of informed conclusion as to the actual course of events, especially if it is long past. In fact, if there is a dearth of balanced information regarding the subject, one may be led to a belief that would be diametrically opposed to the true arrangement of facts, were it known. Perplex City's documentation of the war may have suffered by the rendering of the subject into a taboo. Records may have been destroyed, be it deliberately or by neglect, which would tend to make knowledge regarding it difficult to come by, except through personal accounts such as that of Castille; the Sentinel article does, however, confirm the extantiality of the military's documents pertaining to the struggle, so it appears that we shall shortly be in possession of some of the relevant facts, even if a balanced account is not located within the realm of our possible futures.

Interrogative: Could it be that you actually talk in that archaic fashion?

Supposition: If that is the case then I would like to talk to this interesting meatbag.

Aside: Although how one thinks in such a way, with all of those nasty liquids rushing about inside of one, leaves me in some confusion.

Good Morrow!
As there are very few entities, one of whom I am in possession of rather more than a passing acquaintance with, standing in representation of the noble state of Michigan, in which I have, as of even date, the distinct honour and privilege of residing, there is, in effect, little chance that there are any of this august assemblage who are to be counted among those in the outstanding category of which we speak; that is to say, aside from said individual, who shall, for this time, and, perhaps, the remainder of their existence, remain unidentified, and, of course, myself, there are none who, in a taxonomically-arranged of all those present on this forum who could, should they be apprised of its existence and possessed of themselves to do so, answer your question, and it is in the interest of maintaining the status quo that I find myself, regretfully, forced to decline to provide you with a direct response to your query, though it honours me greatly to be the subject of inquiry by a veteran and long-standing member such as yourself. Mr. Green
Your comment does bring one to wonder as to your personal characteristics; you are not, by any chance, a silicon-based life form? A good friend of mine claims to know three such beings... Without further information on this subject, I shall be forced to conclude that you are not from this planet, and that you are, in fact, a Perplexian masquerading as an Earthling(we do not, after all, know of a certainty their chemical structure, and even their appearance is known only by their own visual representations); perhaps you even hold the dubious distinction of being the Third Power Mole!!! This brings me, at long last, to what is, alas, the only relevant point that exists in this "Wall of Text," which is that the acquirance, by oliverkeers13'and ryandrew, of unreleased cards, is somewhat provocative of suspicion, and, despite the explanation offered by the former individual, would seem to tie them to external forces in Mind Candy or Perplex City, including, of course, the Third Power, which is suspected to have infiltrated the Academy and might, therefore, have access to the cards in question.
Good Day!

Muahaha, how did you guess? I AM the head of the third power.
No, but seriously. Live events hold their rewards.
