Why? It's an interesting and yet frustrating game construct.

Actually I have no clue why.

But if I'd have to guess, I'd say that every so often they have to mention or show a character (and I'm not saying they had to mention Novia when they did, since I haven't caught up yet and have no clue when Novia was mentioned, but I'm thinking of Johnny Deuces) before the point in the story when they want to tell any of the vignettes that would be in that character's profile.

Ergo, they could have let us find a card for Novia early, when they first mentioned her, but we wouldn't have been to the part of the story where Novia is sitting in a car with a guy with a gun.

So the profile would have had to have been without content.

Or like Johnny Deuces. Granted we didn't get his full name when we saw the video with Lucy in the bathtub, but we were shown this character who obviously had as significant a part to play as, say, hikerd00d, but we couldn't find a card for him until later because he wasn't going to go steal the Gun yet, and all the profile content for him stemmed from that.

So again, if they'd let us find him when he first showed up in the story, it would have been an empty profile.

Which, I suppose, wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world, but would be a bit dull.

I was asking why anyone must be patient. Sorry for the confusion.

And a reference to I Corinthians 13:4-7:

Actually, upon reflection, I think the pleasant odor probably came from the candle, not from the box. Anyway...

So, for starters, it's all johnnydeuces's fault that it took so long:

Quote:
johnnydeuces: Daveman, you can see it from the Lone Ranger rock, it's on the other side of the road.
Daveman424: Indian Head Rock?

The Garden of the Gods is a 23-acre park full of beautiful rock formations. It has no formal buildings, kiosks, employees, maps, entrance gate, etc. The closest thing to an entrance is a little sign near a dirt hiking trail, advising visitors that the park is closed from sunset to sunrise.

(Did I say "dirt"? I meant "mud." It's been raining here today.)

After I spent quite some time meandering down every side trail I found, I got the bright idea of calling jsailor -- whose number I had from doing the Mitzi and Jerry favor with him and HitsHerMark last Sunday -- and asking if anyone had any brilliant ideas on how to find a particular rock in this park. Shortly thereafter, the main trail wound directly through two large rock formations. Just past them, and to one side of the main trail, there was a little clearing, from which the two rock formations looked exactly like the picture on Corazon's profile. "Aha!" thought I. "Indian Head Rock! The altar must be around there somewhere!"

Re: [UPDATE] November 9

I spent the better part of the next hour scouring all around that blasted rock formation -- which is approximately 40' high, I'd say -- looking for any sign that Corazon might have left behind, while jsailor relayed advice from IRC, played back the poker game with johnnydeuces, and tried everything he could think of to assist. Although Johnny had said that one could see the altar from the Lone Ranger rock, I crawled all the way around Indian Head Rock anyway. It occured to me that the rain might well have washed away the chalk cross that was supposed to mark the area, so I looked in crevices and under piles of sodden brush, and even climbed up onto the rock to get a better look at one particular ledge. It even occured to me to check the little clearing from which I had taken the picture, despite Johnny's contrary instructions, just in case there was something there.

Nothing. Not en electronic sausage.

Finally, shortly after a gust of wind turned my umbrella inside-out, jsailor relayed the welcome news that the PMs had taken pity on-- I mean, that Victor had come into a poker room. About the same time, jsailor's connection became unstable, so he gave me rose's phone number and I called her. Victor seemed to be describing walking beyond the two big rock formations, to someplace else from which one could see "EVERYTHING." So while rose was relaying useful information -- and I was asking her to pass on stupid questions to Victor -- I stumbled a few dozen yards further up the trail, where it became rather rocky. Poked, prodded, peered, all to no avail. I started to head back down towards the big rock formations, hoping Victor would give us a somewhat more blatant hint...

...and right there, behind a largish rock quite some distance beyond Indian Head Rock, was Corazon's rain-soaked altar. A pink candle. A small box. A note, labeled "Victor." And a bunch of marigolds.

As near as I can tell, the little clearing I had found earlier was directly on the other side of this rock. Meaning, I think, that this was the place from which Corazon had taken her photograph.

Re: [UPDATE] November 9

Inside the box, as has been reported, was an adorable little Beanie Baby cat named "Frisco," and a heart-shaped keychain containing the biblical verses from I Corinthians 13: 4-7. Thankfully, rose was able to relay everything I told her, including the fact that the cat's name was Frisco... which apparently unlocked all the subsequent Kerry mayhem. Those two faint white lines in the picture, by the way, are all that remained of the chalk cross. And finally, here is Corazon's note to Victor:

I wanted to to find a place where I could come and be with you. Most people have a place, a grave to visit, but we don't. Now at least on La Dia de los Muertos, I can come here and bring you macadamia nuts and beer and feel as if we are talking. Maybe I'll bring a DVD player and show you the latest crop of documentaries.
I miss you so much. I miss the way you talked and talked and talked when you were excited. I miss, most of all, the way that when you looked at me I knew I fit somewhere. That there was one place where I wasn't some sort of monster, neither fish nor fowl, but simply your Madonna.
Thank you for your gift of Love.
Corazon

There is no truth at all to the rumor that I was sniffling while I read this.

I left the flowers for Victor; I'll bring the rest to the L.A. live event. Thanks for all the help, everyone, especially jsailor and rose. I would never have found the altar without it. (And I didn't get fired! My 2:00 p.m. appointment never showed! Hooray for small favors! Mr. Green )

Shado and rose the two most cold hearted ARG players ever ;)

I quoted Shad0 because that is my proof I was on the phone with him while he opened the box!

And as for,
Quote:
There is no truth at all to the rumor that I was sniffling while I read this.

well, maybe not sniffling exactly.

We were going back over the instructions and he was walking back up the path when he saw it. "I found it; I found it!!" Yays all around in the chat room.

Then shadow described the box and the candle and things. He wanted to get a picture of the box and I said "open it, open it!" But he thought he should take a picture of it unopened first.

Once it was opened, he described the tissue paper and how sweet it smelled, I don't remember if we know what perfume Corazon wears. And then he started to describe each object in the box.

As I recall, Shadow would open something and say "oh this is so sad" in the sweetest, kindest, most compassionate voice.

And I would say "what, what" And he wouldn't say anything for a second and then I would say "are you ok?" And then after another second he would tell me what he found.

Shadow would say "its a beanie baby of a cat" and I would say "aww - victor's cat" and then we would both choke up for a second and not say anything. Then he would describe it to me a bit more, which I could relay to chat.

And that repeated for each object.

He couldn't read the note at first because it was sodden and he was worried about ripping it. He finally got it opened and said "this is so sad and so beautiful - it is Corazon's note to Victor." And just from the sound of his voice as he said that, I started to get tears in my eyes for that putz Victor who was murdered and has no grave.

He did read the whole thing without sniffling. But I wish I
had a recording of the way he read it. My heart broke for Corazon and Victor. I was glad that I was on the phone with him to share in it.

He was so moved by the whole offering that we wondered if he should leave the offering there. We decided he should take it, except for the marigolds, so that he could share it with people in LA.

So, if you need to send someone on an errand of kindness who will have to endure getting soaked in the pouring rain, being delayed for work because they are lost in the rocks, having to call someone who can give messages in IRC to be relayed into a poker game, and yet persevere until the end - Shadow is your guy.

Thanks again Shad0.

You are so good at telling stories!

I'm so glad you didn't get fired. Very Happy We were discussing in IRC what to do if that happened, and decided we'd have to all give you some really complimentary job references.

Of course, someone pointed out that we couldn't be sure that "he was willing to risk his job for an ARG!" would sound as noble to potential employers as it did to us. Wink

Video

A question about the video - doesn't it end with someone still shooting at Kerry and Kerry out of ammo? And the title "butch cassidy and the sundance kid" reminds me that at the end of that movie both Butch and Sundance die, altough it isn't shown on camera.

I am sad about Clay - because Lucy was supposed to teach him how to shoot a gun and because he says "tucker, tucker" and kerry has nothing to say. I know that Kerry told him to leave LA and that Clay volunteered to go with himto talk to Don, so I am not blaming anyone. Clay was my favorite character, he saved Lucy, helped Kerry, talked to Matt and even tried to comfort Tony. So I feel the loss of his presence in the story.

I'm pretty sure Kerry wasn't out of ammo. The falling shell casings were just shell casings. After that, he dived to his right, while firing. He wasn't out of bullets at that point... and then we fade to black.

I think if Butch and Sundance had a sub-machine gun, and the movie ended the same way... we wouldn't give them up for dead.
Kerry seemed to be getting the upper hand.
