Someone in chat (I think it was Celina but I don't have a log to doublecheck, so sorry if I mis-credited) suggested to tell him about the diamonds in the gun. I think someone has called and left that as a message.

I emailed Nita and asked if we could please have the documents. This was her reply:

Quote:
Amber,

Thanks for your continued interest. Frankly, at this point, with all the hassle eBay's giving me now about this whole thing (stuff about internet fraud and multiple accounts), I'm frankly going to just toss everything, or maybe have a huge bonfire in the backyard.

I'm glad you found the documents useful in your research, or whatever it is you're using them for. What I have are just copies anyway, so consider what you've got as good as them.

Good luck to you!

Regards,

Nita McPherson

Re: [UPDATE] November 12 Saturday

Some new small favors. And congatulations to konamouse for correctly predicting the location of the Los Angeles Graveyard Games! (Heck, if they'll let you play golf there, Tombstone Hold 'Em shouldn't turn any heads...)

Please take note that the final live event appears to begin at 2:00 pm PST, not noon.

Amber's final result: while we were all trying to figure out what the heck the first name was of that O'Kelley son on the census page, it was the OTHER documents that had the information we needed. Anna O'Kelley is a descendant of John CH Smith. And we were looking for a Smith (hanging out with Benjamin and others) from the other cards. So Amber gets a card!

JUst some FYI:

* Found Patrick Sullivan after reading the entry in Silas Cain's profile, and deciding that Patrick was a good start when looking for Irish names.

* Found Pierre Grouard after discovering Patrick Sullivan.

From these documents, in addition to learning John C.H. Smith's name, we also learn:

    *That John C.H. Smith married Mary Ella Smith;
    *That they had a son named William Robert Smith;
    *That he married Eliza Smith;
    *That they had a daughter in Mexico named Anna Smith;
    *That she married Sean O'Kelly; and
    *That they had a daughter named Mary O'Kelly and a son named Seamus O'Kelly.

As you will recall, Mary is the name of Lucky's mother, and her brother is Lucky's Uncle Seamus. Therefore, it appears Lucy is a direct descendant of John C.H. Smith, and -- I'm speculating here -- a potential target of the Gun's curse.

So if Lucy and Kerry get together, maybe they can put the curse to rest - a Smith making it up to the Sullivan line? (If I have that right.)

Seems like it might be the other way around. Smith "disappeared" in 1868. Sullivan we know survived until 1875, when Frank Grouard shot him and Billy the Kid got the blame. So I'm guessing that Sullivan had something to do with Smith's death, and that his line is the recipient of Smith's curse. (Perhaps Smith is the skeleton that Cain, Seeley, and Sullivan unearthed in 1870.)

Smith --> O'Kelly --> Brown
Sullivan --> O'Grady --> Tucker

So perhaps Kerry needs to "unspill" Smith blood and "unmake" Smith's death somehow.

For lack of any other ideas, I just called Kerry's voice mail and told him about all this. I wonder what he'll make of it. (More than I have been able to thus far, hopefully...)

Edit to fix Sullivan's date of death, which was given in Lothar Barbel's lineage chart.

ok, I stand by the basic concept but accept the complete reversal of roles that comes from me not totally paying attention to the family history side of the story.

seems likely that it would be him or pierre grouard (the two who didn't show). and if this was where frank/francois killed pierre, he'd presumably have "the treasure" (since it's gone)...

So now, is it the gun or the diamonds that carry the curse?

Wrote a massive post and then accidently unplugged my PC Mad

Here we go again...

After reading Shadow's spec I'm inclined to agree with him, here's a spec I've pieced together.

We're heading into the first fatal showdown between the Killer, the Gambler and the Sherriff - one that will be echoed in the present.

The treasure is set be unearthed by the Blue conspirators on a day following the final end of the Civil War. Unknown to the rest - Smith, Sullivan and Pierre Grouard have already met to decide the fate of the Confederate horde between themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if this meeting took the form of a poker game at which the Gun was present.

Sullivan somehow manages to wrangle the Gun and kills Grouard at the table, then Smith whilst he's digging a grave (perhaps his own, perhaps for Grouard). With his dying breath Smith spits a curse upon his bloodline, to be entwined with the fate of the Gun until he his blood has been unspilled.

Then, on the alloted day, Sullivan shows face - safe in the knowledge that he can allude blame by the others' absence. Cain's account attests: "Sullivan had done well in New Mexico. Always dapper, he sported an ivory-handled pistol and a gold pocket-watch". While this seems inoccuous, I think New Mexico is the ideal place to lay low for someone who'd just come into a suspiciously large amount of money.

This also gives Frank the motivation to kill Sullivan, and maybe the motivation to endure the Lakota's brutal initiation rites in order to become such an instrument of vengence.

Moral - when the Killer, the Gambler and the Sherriff meet, only one can survive.

With all we know about the bloodlines, perhaps McPherson is (or represents) a Grouard. The Grouard tale obsessed him as a teen, and he has spent no mean amount of time tracing the Gun and its (potential) cache, to the detriment of his life and relationships. He had a choice not to use Kerry in the way he did, but couldn't resist. The Grouards stand for covetousness - and Don has an overwhelming desire to claim the Gun.

So in the present, these three cards meet again. I think at the meeting Don will attempt to take Lucy hostage for the Gun, and Kerry will kill him, "unmaking the death" of a Smith, and lifting the curse.

It could be that Kerry needs this information to fulfil his destiny, but something tells me ready to let the gun decide. He may survive, but in a true Western, he would die to save Lucy.

(aside: my favourite western of all time is The Shootist... everybody see it and agree Very Happy )

Thoughts?

Apart from this, mostly good spec. We know that Frank Grouard killed Pierre.

First off, I think Frank didn't know about the Confederate gold on the ship...he only knew about the diamonds in the handle. But that was enough for him to follow the gun for the rest of his life.

Pierre, on the other hand, was a big part of the conspiracy. I don't think it was a "Blue" conspiracy though. Silas R. Cain is definitely a strong supporter of the Confederacy.

So, they steal the gold out from under Jonah, who is taking it to England to get their help in the war. They make a pact when the ship crashes at the island to hide the gold and return in 5 years.

In the ensuing time...Sullivan somehow gets the gun from Pierre (Still not sure how). At this point I think either Sullivan and Smith make a pact to get the gold...or Sullivan decides to get it himself and Smith finds out. Either way, Smith ends up cursing Sullivan and ending up in a hole without his head (The more difficult to identify later when the gang meets up at the site a couple of years later).
