Although Columbus Day weekend in Chicago might be nice (even though that's not a holiday for me)

oooo! i like that! Columbus day aka imbri's birthday is a great holiday (though it was much cooler when it was celebrated *on* october 12 instead of the Monday)! Our friends from up north might not appreciate the travels during their turkey day though. So I tend to agree with the mid-late July sentiment, despite the heat and whatnot.

I had talked to celina about how SF would be a good place for an ARGFest when she was here recently.

I could very well be hallucinating, but I have a pretty decent recollection of arguments against the west coast because that makes it even more difficult for the European crowd... 9-10 hour time change for just a weekend get away in addition to the longer and more expensive flights. Though, I agree, SF would be a pretty kick ass location for an ARGfest. But if we're doing Vegas next, it might be better to keep it East coast (or closer to the East) this time around.

As much as I love SF, I'd have to put in my vote for Chicago. I'm not sure what my life will be like then, but I'm sure I can help with some of the planning. Smile

I think you are, since I actually said I was in favor of Chicago.

I merely brought it up because it was actually something celina and I were talking about...how SF is a good city for this sort of thing(especially during the summer). And who knows, maybe at some future point the people in Europe will actually want to go to SF. Hopefully by then, there will be someone to do the hosting. Otherwise, they will have to settle for Cleveland.

hmmm, personal much? I know that you were putting a vote in for Chicago. I only mentioned the west coast thing so that the conversations held before (it was either at ARGfest or in chat) weren't completley forgotten as I know that they're just but a blur for me (thus the hallucination comment). When you mentioned your convo w/Celina about SF, it brought them to mind and so I used that as the launching pont.

Oh, and much as I adore my hometown, I don't think Cleveland is quite the city for an ARGfest... even I might be tempted to skip that one Wink

Carry on.

Don't make me break out a Condorcet poll on you people. It seems early for that, but I will if I have to! I'll do it, I swear!

I had mentioned to Ariock and pita (and anyone in chat who would listen) that SF would be good for ARGFest OH SEVEN, not OH SIX. I had assumed that Chicago was pretty much a done deal, and in fairness, the past ARGFests having been pretty much on one coast or the other (Vegas, Orlando, Vancouver, NYC), a visit to the MidWest would be a nice change.

Also, my vote for SF in '07 over Vegas is based on, well, been there done that. I'm all for new experiences, and (IMO) there is SO much more to do in SF than Vegas, esp. for families.

As for organizers, it's not *that* far away from me to help plan, and I'm a pretty good motivator when motivated myself. However, we are currently discussing '06, so I'll save my SF campaigning for later Very Happy

Bring it on, Sweet Home Chicago!

I'm pretty much available as a planner and attendee anytime except for July 4th weekend

unless you'd all like to come to my daughter's birthday/father's insane fireworks blowout. Wink

Isn't being hot and sweaty a prerequisite of any ARGfest?

I'll probably come. Try not to make it somewhere too awkward.

In response to Wishi's tiny commentary, we shall make ARG Fest '06 inside a cup that I have on my desk. This should make it sufficiently difficult for ANYONE who wishes to go, and should do so equally. (For example, even I, whose desk the cup sits upon, would have a hard time making it in that cup for the festivities... therefore, equalness abounds!)

For real, let's just say Chicago '06, and be done with it, and move on to the more difficult task of date options.

Beyond that, to get into the netherworld of next-next year... I think Vegas is a great option, cuz, (1) it's Vegas, and (2) many of the people who make UF what it is today were not around during that oft-referred-to-event, and (3) it's Vegas. And, that being said, it's settled. Smile

But seriously, we need someone to stand up and say "It's Chicago. Like it or not. It's going to be sometime in July. Let's start planning."

Cuz if I said something like that, I'd get laughed at. Or have pies thrown at...

hmmm... pie.

EDIT: can I come to your father's insane fireworks blowout anyway, even if not for ARGFest, Varin? Laughing

2nd Edity thing: (must not think about fun with re-arranging/adding punctuation to suit my funny mind:) "My Father's insane. Fireworks blow. Out."

I'll agree with the "My Father's insane" part, at least when it comes to July 4th anyway.

Just for the record, I vote for Chicago and I have already put in my reservation at the Krystyntel (Krystyntyl?).

And, I'd like it said, with the absolute greatest respect and admiration for the NYC organizers and what they accomplished, that hosting a ARGfest does not have to be the equivalent of setting up an E3 or a ComicCon. The main requirements for an enjoyable weekend, IMO, are the afore-mentioned cold beverages, a plan and a place for dinner meet-ups, some general consensus on sightseeing-type activities and playtime, and ample time in the mornings for gossip, breakfast and hangover nursing, not necessarily in that order.

If it does end up being Chi-town, you can count me in... I only live about 2 1/2 hours away from there and would be willing to drive up, or support Amtrak and grab a train, there for a nice warm and breezy weekend of fun/entertainment/learning.
