Best ARG?

I was thinking. Yes, ILB was fun, but man, all we did was answer telephones, seems boring now that I think about it. The Beast was fun also, without it, this website might not exist. Our Colony sucked, Hex let us down, and now this. I would say this is the most enjoyable ARG so far. Going to the Graveyard to play poker was so original, such a great idea. Who cares if Gun was too short, and a sappy ending, I just fought through it and wasted money just for the Secret of the Safe. Thanks guys, and I look forward to playing again.

Yeah, either that, or the topic name is a little misleading Confused

Those payphones were like to drive anyone mad at first, but the game surely developed and deepened as time went on.

Every game is different. Indivdually, subjectively, we've all got our favorites. Me, I am not sure I could make a definite numbered list, because there are things that I adored about each game I played, and they don't necessarily compete with each other in my mind ...

I'd vote Beast first and Lockjaw second.

Best WHAT??!!??

I would say there is no BEST ARG, only different ones. The Beast led the way in this field, the games which followed were a fledgling community striving to find out what could be done, and what couldn't. 4orty2wo had the financial backing to not worry so much about purse strings (ILB phone calls to everywhere and sundry in the USA, and LCP souvenir chips and decks of cards), others have the 1337 skills to make computers sit up and beg. The Lockjaw/MU crew showed that you didn't need the deep pockets to bring in a horde of people to the community, and still offer something with surprises and an intriguing story.

Each game is different, each a UNIQUE experience that is loved for its own reason.

I will always be partial to Chasing the Wish even though I joined it in the middle (and Dave, I can hardly wait for the next installment). I loved Acheron because it was the first game I had played all the way through from Launch to the rolling of the credits.

The best game is the one that makes us think about overlooked parts of our world that we take for granted, and question our beliefs that are colored by our parents and friends opinions on the matter.

LCP made us look at how we feel about death and the memories of those who have left this world before us; made us consider our own mortality. I agree to some extent with Cal302, it was one of the best. But so far, they all have been, even the ones that never quite fulfilled the promise of their dream. People still talk about Majestic and Push, and others that failed, so those as well must have had something that made them worth talking about.

Hopefully there will always be room for all these varieties, corporate, grassroots, long storyline unfolding over months, short stories finished in weeks, those using multiple ways to interact with us, and those that take one avenue and show us all the ways it can be manipulated. I look forward to saying of all of them, "That was one of the best..."

love the one you're with

To me, the BEST ARG is the one I am playing, while I am playing it. Sometimes more than one at once even. I like the aspects of PPC that I have been able to play and I loved LCP too. I am looking forward to Orbital Colony. It's all good.

They are each brilliant in their own way. Who cares which is better? Just. Please. PMs. Make. More Good. Ones.

The best ARG is the ARG that introduces you to the genre and brings you into "the fold".

That being said, I have a soft spot for Art of the H3ist. It treated me a little rough, but I did get a really nice phone. Smile

That and you got to meet Ian, you lucky bitch. So what if you got killed off? Very Happy

I do have to say that, while I actually got to participate in not 1, but 2, live events for LCP, H3ist is still my favorite. Something about all that info to go through and play with (even tho most of it wasn't used) just got to me. That and half-naked white boy dancing. There seriously isn't enough ARG beefcake these days - the boys get all the eye candy. What about us girls? We're players too and we demand Bartenders in the Buff!
