This is indeed nice news. The site did not shut down (as may have been read into it. I did) but Eric Belson is taking it (and us) to a new level. He's going places and not just third hand reporting.

This sure looks like (if I may quote)
"The game is afoot." no pun intended.

Rolling Eyes While I do agree that the rootkits are insanely stupid, it is rather stupid to blame ALL of Sony for it. Shadow of the Colossus and the Playstation 2 is run by Sony Computer Entertainment. Completely different from Sony's music division, run by different people, profitable ( Laughing ), etc. I mean, it's like boycotting DC Comics because you don't like something Time Warner did. Just because it's owned by the same people, doesn't mean they are all to blame.

Atophied is right. At some point, you have to decide what to do.

"It wasn't that Nazi that killed my brother, so I left him alone."

The Exxon station near my house wasn't responsible for the Valdez fiasco, but I still stopped patronizing it.

OK, now I'm convinced. The Inca giant footage definitely shows a Colossus from the game. The vines hanging off the legs, the studded belts which allow you to climb up.... It's a viral campaign.

We already reached a verdict about it being related to the game. Just not if it was an ARG.

However it most definitely is Viral. Does that make it a bad thing? I<3 bees was viral wasn't it?

For me, the difference between ARG and Viral is interactivity between the players and the characters.

I got that huge email from Arkady Simkin's friend regarding what was going on with him, but after that, it died.

I've replied to him, I've sent messages to the guy running the Giantology site, and haven't had a single response.

Right now, this is on rails and they're just releasing information when they feel like it.

Hmm. Those image tags don't seem to be working.

What are they getting at?

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, and i've also been following the campaign with interest. In FACT, they did SUCH a good job with the advertising that I ended up buying 'Shadows of the Colossus'. (Which by the way, is an AMAZING game!). What I don't understand is why they continue to leak information past the game's release. This latest Giantology release of the Nazcan Vacation was the MOST blatant Colossus to date. (This one was also a frustrating one for me to defeat.) And of course I also share in everyone's frustration of the 'Dec 26th' significance.

Here's something tho... this is the first 'colossi' evidence of one that's still standing. (Literally.)

On a side note:

Isn't the 'SOC' game cocept kind of messed up? I mean seriously, these creatures have been roaming the land for EONS in peace, and this one guy... who wants his girlfriend/wife/mistress to come back to life basically goes on a murder-rampage brutally slaughtering these things. Even the booklet that comes with the game tells you that they're peaceful. So I feel kinda bad after taking one down.

(12 down, 4 to go.)

All will be explained by the end of the game, good ending I must say.

But I really like this arg/viral campaign, I wonder if they're going to go through all 16 of them...

Definite proof ,are a hoax by the same person

Sooo… a couple weeks ago I watched the video of the so called remains of a giant in India. It originated from the Giantology website http://www.giantology.typepad.com/ which was discussed in various threads in this forum. As India has a large movie industry my first thoughts were that the video is probably a clip from a movie. I didn't care much and surfed away. A couple days later I found myself on the same website again after following a link after watchin another giant video. I bookmarked the website and came back a couple days later only to find more giant stories… It seemed weird to me that only this guy has all the stories. I googled for stuff related to his site and I noticed that I'm not the only one being suspicous. It is rumored that his site is part of an ad campaign for a computer game - which is probably true as I found some interesting stuff… I have proof that all those giants are originating from the same person.

Instead of analyzing his photos and videos I did one simple thing.... I checked the HTML code the following sites linked from the Giantology blog. A move that turned out to be very interesting indeed....

The following websites are apparently set up by people involved in finding and digging up the giants and are linked from the Giantology blog:

http://paleoshilling.nl/ (The Persian Giant)
http://divethedeepscuba.com.au (The Sunken Giant)
http://arkadysimkin.pl (The Ice Giant)
http://www.familysayre.net/ (The Inca Giant)

All those websites were coded by using the same HTML editor! They were coded in similar fashion - probably by the same person.

Every HTML page starts with

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
<html>
<head>

Note that every HTML editor has a different style. Some include the name of the editor in the opening, some are simply starting with the usual html tag, some include the doctype reference. It would be a HUGE coincidence if all those people creating the websites linked from the Giantology blog used the same HTML editor independent from each other. Also, the coding style overall is very similar. Anyone that knows a bit of HTML can check it out himself.

More "coincedences" that I found in the code: Two sites are using the very same Javascript for mouseover picture swaps in their menu, two sites are using the same counter.

Just noted the dutch, Let me say... yipes. This is as dutch as it is english.
Lemme give an example. "That said, I hope those" It is tanslated literally. We (dutch) don't use that. Almost like ordering humble pie in a deli. I doubt they have any.

Technically corect but it is clearly translated from an english text not the other way around.

That code is generated automatically by dreamweaver, tons of people use it so It shouldn't come as much of a surprise to see it in these.
