After trying a couple of obvious answers using my calculator, I used excel, simply doubling the number each time. Unless I've done something wrong, my answer came out as

Then again, I've had a few drinks, so my typing might have suffered!

hmm i wonder how much that many grains of rice would weigh...

to be fair, rice might not be flavoursome but i bet he'd get a fair bit out of sticking it on ebay Wink

rach =)

On the assumption that since Sissa is in India and King Shirham most likely offered him Basmati Long Grain Rice as his payment .... And of course there were enough grains in the world to collect of that promise.... Sissa would be one RICH RICE MAN!!!

The Total Weight would be 7,378,697,629,483,820.646 QUADRILLION (1000 billion) KILOS

These are 20 KILO bags.... He could Ship and Sell 368,934,881,474,191 bags on Ebay
THE RICHES, THE RICHES!!!
1000 Grains of Basmati Rice weighs 2.5g
You can purchase Basmati Rice on eBay for 2.4GBP per 1kg

17,708,874,310,761,170 QUINTILLION POUNDS of Profit!!!
That's 32,584,328,731,800,552 quintillion US Dollars.... Crazy – just Crazy... I wanna be king of all the rice in the world. Wink

But!...

Doesn't rice have a shelf life. Surely if you've got that much rice to sell in a short time, the demand is never going to be up to the supply, so your price is gonna tumble.

Lucky then, that in the actual story, the request was for that much, "or an equivalent value", so the dude just took King Wotsit's kingdom, and maybe a few of his prettier wives, and was done with it. This is way back remember, so he'd have had to set up eBay before he got to selling. I don't think even their profits are into the quadrillions of dollars yet.
