#147-blue-star set-directionless Get from the red arrow to the red dot by the shortest possible route.
You can step one square at a time, always following the arrows. If you step off the grid you must re-enter at the other end of the same row or column-imagine the north and south edges are connected, as are the east and west edges. What's the sequence of steps you take through the maze, expressed in compass directions?

can't really do this one without the picture,
and cant visualise sixsidedsquare's answer between having to hold the mouse over the spoiler box *and* flick to another page to see the image.

I warn you now, don't scroll down if you don't want to see a diagram of the path.
Just to help you see it, it's time for one of 'Six's Patented Looks-Like-It's-Done-In-Crayons Solves'
Isn't it purdy

For some reason my answer is not being accepted. Do you have to input it a certain way? Do you have the type out north, east etc. to get it right?
I'm positive that the problem lies between my seat and my keyboard.
Help!

no, just kidding, I dunno what you're doing wrong. possibly you only need to enter changes in direction.

I left out the spaces and it worked for me. Whenever I put in spaces it rejected! Weird!

I enjoyed solving this (without peeking here) - one of the funnest cards so far (if you like mazes). Scanning it in and then doing the paths in photoshop seemed to be the best way of solving it though...

Can someone help me with the input? Do you have to delete the instructions in the text box or leave it? I actually got this after a few tries and it's kiils me to get busted on input. Thanks again

Hi everyone! I'm a computer scientist, and to me the most interesting way to solve this card was by writing a maze traversal program (in C, as I forgot prolog's syntax a long time ago).
So, I wrote http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/downloads/maze147.c which finds ALL paths through the maze. There are 6 in total, 3 of which are slightly longer versions of the other 3 because of a shortcut. To break up the remaining three, there's the longest version, a shortcut, and a better shortcut giving the shortest route. I've attached the resulting routes below, scroll down if you don't want to see them.
Now, *RANT* the problem is that Perplex City don't accept the shortest route! I've double-checked and it IS a valid route! So why don't they accept it?
Description
All routes - orange is the longest route, green shortcuts provide the quickest route, blue is also a non-optimal shortcut.

if i see what i think i do your green line on the far most right top and bottom squares cannot go in the way youve shown because neither arrow points in the direction that you have implied. So thus making the shortest route we all know correct. Any second oppinions?

You can always go from extreme south to extreme north, or vice versa, and ditto for east and west. So the green line is, in fact, valid.
