I agree with Forgery. Anyone up for this? (I'd do it, but I haven't the extensive time to be very reliable at getting it done properly. I'm good as a contributor, though, should we need that one extra article...).

Perhaps we should just put all his posts together and send that in as a manuscript. It may be a bit long for them, but I'm sure they'd cope, and Perplexians would be fascinated by some of our spec.
My vote would go for the all round book - given that if we had a topic on games then we'd all write the same thing. Time for those Perplexians to find out what really goes on in an Earthling's life.
How about we get this done no later than Sunday. That way weekday people have loads of time, and weekend people have some too. That seems like far too far away to me (I'm a little impatient), so I'd prefer it if people wrote sooner rather than later, but there's not many who could complain there's no time. And if you do, then write something really short. Every little boosts the word count.
And I've just given myself an idea. How about, for those who have no time, we put together humourous anecdotes about our first impressions of Perplex City (the place, obviously, this all has to be in game) and some of the wild spec we came up with to begin with. If we make a book all about earth that rarely mentions PC (because I'm sure they don't want to read about themselves) and then intersperse quotes about how we, as a planet, react to them, then I think it would be really effective. Or maybe if we just have one article putting them all together, I don't know, I guess that would be up to our Editor. If you think it's a good idea and really can't write anything else (or have already written something else) then PM with something and I'll see what we get. And you can't complain that it'll take you too long - about five minutes at my count, you know you all spend more than that a day puzzling over your pet silver card.

Alright, so, I have my first submission.
Nice, fat 1K words prepped for the presses.
Something I've kept in storage and tidied up to go.
Where do I stick it; here?
(I want to stick it here; I think everyone might get a kick out of it.)
EDIT: I think we can pull some of the Perplex City Humour off the Wiki for a few bonus points, no? The Postcard Code Play would real purty in the book, no?
EDIT AGAIN: We're going with my title? At least for now? SWEET!
And, boy, I have a puzzle-story in the works that I guarantee will make even the guys with solved silvers cringe a bit. [/b]

I imagine violet will give us more information soon enough. We need at least a deadline, yaknow? fFor the time being I believe it is a good idea to place articles on the wiki as a repository.
I don't think I need to say: Do NOT edit anyone else's work unless you are asked to.
In short, post your pieces with page titles like: Tales From Earth:Title placing an entry on the index page (Tales_From_Earth) listing who you are, how long it is, when you wrote it, and a short description.
Also note, if people prefer they may post a link to their article which may be posted elsewhere such as on a blog.

Here's the deal on wiki registration.

I'm off sick with pneumonia (boo) so I've got plenty of time on my hands - I'll do whatever I can to help out.

And riddles! Maybe even one large overarching puzzle for the whole book. Randomly capitalized letters spelling out an incredibly complex riddle of some sort, maybe? It'd be pretty cool if we could send these Perplexians on some kind of wild goose chase that leads them to Viendenbourg or something. Imagine the entire city walking into that confusion-field and going retarded...mmm, delicious.
Actually, the more I think about it, this could be our opportunity to get back at the Third Power. If we hide riddles in this book hinting at some sort of "UEN1 rendezvous" in Perplex City, we could lure some 3P operatives out into the open. It would be a good opportunity for one of our own moles to find out who's in the Third Power.
Brilliant! But can we fix a date on it? I'd love to see the look of those 3P guys when they find out that they have been the ones who were found out!

I think a collaborative story would be great for a chapter or three in the book. You know, the ones where someone writes a line (or paragraph) and another person adds another one, etc..
1) This could be done on the wiki - editing is easy (registration needed to post)
2) or it could be done on a site like this http://storyteller.ning.com/ click on browse to read some of the other stories (reg. needed to post)
3) Or, it could be done as a forum thead (minus the "ooh! thats a good line" comments). (lurkers can post too?)... and then stitched nicely on the wiki?
We can also think about adding pictures to help illustrate the story.
Its meant to be totally free-form, but could have a theme, such as "drama" "sci-fi" "monty python-esque" "humour" etc ...
edits:: Tales from Earth is the book, so probably not sci-fi, and its gotta be reasonably unfilthy too
EDITS: Here is the thread for the collaborative story

Having done some work in the publishing industry I would be more then happy to help out with editing, production etc. By the sound of it we also need someone to take charge a bit and set deadlines, topics etc to make sure we don't end up with 15 stories about the same topic...

Like this 459 page thread on Billy Bragg's forum?

Alright, I just added my little thing about the nights on Earth to the wiki. I think I did it right, though I've never used the wiki before so I can't be sure

I like the bragg idea, but maybe to save time a sentence each and then we can do it like consequences? It'll allow more people to be able to join in? Or maybe one submission could be like that and the rest individual articles?
Anyone know a real live published author that we could get to do a foreword?

If we're going to use this to our advantage to send coded messages to the 3P, perhaps we could call it "Tales From The Third Planet", and include our own "Third Planet Logo" on the cover. That'd sure grab their attention.
(I'm joking, BTW)
