I'm not totally discounting the idea, however can you think of a time when there has been a live event that we have had under a weeks notice for?

It doesn't say 'torch/flame'; it says flame

Even so, must it consequently it must the only one you can think of?

wait for the ceramony of the kindling of the flame, exactly 7 days after that send someone to the abandoned subway

WAIT for the ceremony-which is an implication it's not soon and this is before the CD is available to a large number of people.

By the way, where's the abandoned subway?

And 10pm on a Sunday??-do you really think that Mind Candy are going to set a meet up in the dark? My money is that Gillet Rd is in Perplex city and we need to get a character to meet this person.

Fine, if you are sure it definatly won't be on sunday, then I'll leave it.
But nobody has located a gillett road in perplex city, and it does say be there at 10pm. So it will be in the dark anyway...

We've only had a week notice, but wave 2 was supposed to be released beginning to mid November. So they probably had the tracks on the CD created, edited and mastered back in October!

I think it's better that fictional characters meet in the dark.

The Winter Olympics torch relay began on Nov. 27, so it could be a week from that (this Sunday)...or the message could refer to the lighting of the flame during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics on Feb. 10. Can't hurt to play it safe and send someone to the location (provided we figure it out) this Sunday, and if it turns out to be wrong, well, we have another flame-kindling to look forward to!

(I agree, though--this message has probably been sitting around waiting for release for a while now!)

If it is in perplex city, then which character do we nominate to potentially get murdered? Since straight after the speaking was a morse code 3rd power message, they have to know. So anyone that turns up is a deadman. (Or woman, since we are bound to send Violet!)

EDIT:
After actually deciding to do reserch on this, i cant find anything to show the torch was lit on sunday.
Was it actually last sunday, or is that a lie?

Just found this:

http://www.hri.org/news/greek/eraen/2005/05-11-27.eraen.html

It was the 27th November it was lit.

"ceremony of the kindling of the Olympic Flame" - without the olympic in there, it's identical to the speech in the track. It must have been said like that for a reason, it's kind of unwieldy to say "ceremony of the kindling of the flame", so why not say "the kindling of the flame ceremony" or even "the flame kindling ceremony".... unless it's actually called exactly that?

I'd say money is on the guy being there on the 4th Dec.

Has anyone emailed anyone in Perplex City to see if they have a street of that name? They may have one, just not on the map that we have so far.

-EDIT

The 3rd power don't neccesarily know, it's already been mentioned the two messages seem to have been covertly put onto the CD, so why did they have to know about each other? It could have been they were both put on without ever actually listening to it, so it's possible the third power don't know about the contact.

Or even that it was the third power that put the massage on at all..... it could have been someone letting others know that he'd broken the 3P code, and was going to tell them how to break it shortly.....

All I got when i enquired about street names was auto-responses Sad

I agree, the wording is far too similar to be a coincidence!

We still don't know that this message was encoded by the 3P, it's pure spec. Whats not to say that an insider with the 3P has comprimised their security and is simply alerting us about it. The message is certainly about the 3P but its not guarenteed that it was by them... If we start taking it for granted that it was we can end up going down totally the wrong route. Smile

Well this college has a cemerong which uses the exact words, so it must be there instead.

Actually, quite a few places use this phrase

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%22ceremony+of+the+flame%22&meta=

Feel free to turn up to Croydon on a Sunday evening at 10.00pm on a December evening but I you will have lost your minds if you do.

Remember to wrap up warm though.

3p email is compromised

Sounded like a 3p message, but I suppose it could reasonably have been a message to us. The thing is, we have been tricked before by 3p with false info, and im a little concerned about it happening again...

European Chris: That isn't what the olympic ceremony is called. Your examples said "Ceremony of the flame".
These say "Ceremony of the kindling of the Olympic flame",
and in one circumstance "Ceremony of the kindling of the flame" exactly.
I'd rather go and have nothing happen than nobody go, and something happen.
I don't get why it is so stupid to merely check? Since we aren't really sure, how can it hurt to check all channels of investigation?

Just realised something else, not sure how relevant it is (or if it's already been mentioned for that matter)

The Voice says: "A detective here in Perplex City..."

so The Voice is over there, not here on Earth.

As I said, not sure of the relevance.

Also, Chris: It's not quite the same..... it doesn't have the "kindling of the" in the middle.

-EDIT

curse my slow typing, beaten to it again!

Apologies, however a google search of that is even more telling.

Well you'll probably die of hyperthermia. Feel free to go, I'll even lend you a hat.

I'll give you odds of 2/1 that this is a meet on perplex city though, actually 5/1. (max bet £10)
