[Tales From Earth] Book submissions Ok, we've had a few more stories and essays added to the Wiki. Keep up the good work as we will need quite a few more to reach the prescribed word count.
One point of note is that there doesn't seem to be any theme to the submitted stories. Certainly very few of them relate directly to the topic of 'Games'.
Is this something we want to pursuit or shall we just add in articles on any topic and sub-title the book something like "The Earth through different eyes"?

I thought Violet said we should have an overall theme.

I've been a bit quiet on the theme front, seeing as 'Games' was my idea and I didn't want to push it on anyone. I do still feel that we should at least try for a central theme (not least b/c Violet has encouraged us to), we should encourage as many people as possible to write something new especially for the book, and we should respect people's right to write on something completely different if they choose to.
Some people seemed positive about Games as a theme, and I reckon everything that's up there can be said to be about games in some way. The collaborative story is about games. Coxtin's stories could be said to be about the games people play, with each other and with themselves. PS - Coxtin - you are Will Self AICM glass of shit.
So - how about this for a manifesto?
The Perplex City collaborative book will have a theme of Games. All players are encouraged to write something, short or long, fiction or non-fiction, around the theme of 'Games'. If you choose to ignore this completely, that is also fine. We will edit the submissions for spelling and grammar but otherwise not alter your submissions.
I don't know how to set up a poll but maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea? And maybe if it's agreed that something like this is a goer it should go on the front of the wiki and get posted on the perplexcity.com site?

I have no idea what ACIM means, but being in the same sentence as Will Self sounds good.

I think we should definitely go with a theme and 'games' seems the most apt. Can we therefore look at getting entries in with that theme as soon as is possible. As previously posted, Centipede and I have (pretty arbitrarily) set ourselves up as editors and we have an e-mail address if people want to submit stories without going through the Wiki. This is tales.from.earthsplat gmail.com.
If you have already submitted a story that doesn't really fit the theme then there is no real reason it cannot be included but if all new submissions follow this theme then it will help keep a cohesive thread through the book?

Would you guys be interested if I compiled a set of rules for various Earth games for the book?

Sounds like a good thing to me Oliver. Are you planning to embed some kind of secret code in it?

I have like 3 articles planned. All I need now is to fFocus fFor more than 5 minutes and write at least one of them. One is a short PxC RPG module, one is about dragons playing some sort of bogglingly complex game, and one is a mad rant about the third power, a la Lencival. (that last one might have to be penned under a pseudonym)

I have at least a short story coming. It's just over 2k words , so I'll probably let it stand with that unless we need more submissions to make the cut. I should be able to send it in on Friday or sooner! Any word on whether illustrations can be included? I have one of those artsy friends drawing a picture for my story. If illustrations aren't cool for the book, then I'll save the picture for my blog later on. No big thang.

Illustrations would depend on what format they want the book in. I've actually been thinking of doing a weppage based version of it, if I can find someone willing to host it. Images would be great in that.
As a side note, are we sticking with Tales From Earth, or going with Tales from the Third Planet with the three linked rings like the 3P?

I have myself one serious puzzle set up, as a first chapter to a story I will never finish unless Perplex City demands a continuation.
In which case, being a superstar in an alernate universe... pretty sweet...
(If someone could PM me that's good with coding? The puzzle is a huge nuiscance to do by hand... more details (and the answer, no less) to whoever helps me. If nobody, then back to the calculator and my free time...)
