Does anyone know what we're supposed to do with the answer to the "riddle"? Stick it on the end of a page name? Enter it in the "submit box"? Email it?

/me confused. Dunno

I did a little thinking about the Aki and rising sun reference. My brain tells me we are ALMOST there due to one thing we neglected, we didnt finish the clue.

"Her" name has the sound of the rising sun. What does that mean to me? It means we found the word(s) that mean rising sun, yet they arent names that sound like it. Anyone have ideas on what names might follow this, assuming my mind isnt playing tricks on me after yesterday?

The possibility of looking for a place could also make sense, but I think that would most likely be a different page and not an e-mail address, just doesnt seem it would make sense. Yes I'm still confused, I'm hoping we throw enough ideas out there to finally make something "click" in someones head.

Another thing that caught my attention is the page name, solitairea. Spelled that way it refers to the card game solitaire, as solitary is spelled differently, and the only "a" card is the Ace. Maybe that might trigger something in someone, or maybe I have further confused everyone. If so, I'm sorry, but I'm as frustrated as the rest of you, so I'm trying to think of anything that might help.

Did everyone see
Quote:

in the source code? If so, I think I may have cracked it.

"shift_jis" is the way you encode a page to be written in Japanese. If this code is meant to be viewed in shift-JIS encoding, it's a messane in Japanese.

i've been looking around google's cache of splinterworld for a while today, and i found some girls names, but none of them seemed to have any relation to the key clue

but i did find this kinda creepy thing in random's blog

Entry reentry & try, try again.

...No. No. No. I am NOT splinternails.

Perhaps once upon a time ago I was -sometimes- possessed by him, my senses and will involuntarily usurped by him - but he has since become extremely impatient and unneeding of human-units...as I have become one of the many soulless automatons in his humble employ.

splinternails is now someone, something, far beyond out of control.

At anyrate, I would like to extend sincere appreciations to everyone including, but not limited to: my agent, the splinterfans, my friends at www.livejournal.com, as you're all part of the reason why www.splinternails.com & www.splinterworld.com now exist.

Also, kidney punches to the monkey dancers, the artrobots, and the conspiracy @splinterInk - you know who you are...

i'm not sure what to do with the answer. since the page we're on now is .../mr.espot/... , maybe we have to use it as part of the html? i tried using aki and akey a couple different ways like that, but nothing so far

did anyone ever figure out those faint latin letters in the earlier picture?

I think those are from a previous game, as it is dated 2002 and both sites are "Under construction" meaning they were removed or arent yet incorporated in this game. The livejournal is where the blogs for sparkrent came from (so it is in-game) and we do need to contact random wilson if we can. As for the Latin lettering, it is FAR too faint and nothing in my aresenal provided me any extra ways to see it any clearer.

Random thought: I saw something in the splinternails journal that referred to "Ms. Tay Kusmade". I tried those emails but nothing worked. However, I'm seeing if I can make some sort of acronym.

Any ideas?

Here's another random thought

Ms. Tay Kusmade = Mistakes Made? Say it out loud, creepy.

Have we tried stegging the pics? I haven't had much time to work on much, so just my two cents. I'm fairly sure we need to e-mail someone, as the properties code gives us the splatqu13e.com

More if and when I have more.

Oddly, Vandino just brought one of the pictures to my attention as having tested false positive, while the other 2 were clear negatives. He has tried many different destegs, he will have to give details. The regretogether.jpg is the one we think needs to be destegged. It could be the missing clue

OT - check your PMs for the info about IRC

If your talking about the "rising sun" riddle I beileve the answer is the first half of our email addy.

And the other half is...?

Just in case no one saw it before: I saw the phrase "shift_jis" in the source code. Did anyone else notice it? If it's part of the code, it may mean that the following is a message in Japanese. Somehow, we have to encode it in shift-JIS.

But since Shift-JIS is my default for viewing pages, it may not be quite right...

yeah, i did notice that, but i tried looking up some kinda table of characters for japanese symbols, but haven't come up with anything (not like i'd be able to read 'em anyway ...)

the last half of the email is what we pulled from the comments section on the image. it ROTed out to atquthirteenedotcom, or @qu13e.com

I found a shift-JIS table--it's here.

http://www.rikai.com/library/kanjitables/kanji_codes.sjis.shtml

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make too much sense...I'll keep looking at it but if anyone else sees anything, let me know.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that this wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shift-JIS can help us decode the message. Unfortunately, I'm awful at math, so it doesn't make much sense to me. Can anyone make sense of this?

Well, Randomeis had a chat today with Decima on IM. Basically, she said she thinks the entire qu13e.com is just another website splinternails is opening (I'm guessing it is a real person, or thinks it is?). I didnt get all of the details of the conversation because I had to leave and go out to dinner. Decima mentioned someone named neobitch, who was the old splinterbitch, dunno why. She also said someone else had text messaged her the website, my guess is thats the only reason she knows anything about it. What does all of this mean?

Honestly, I dunno. I am really hoping a more experienced ARGer can shed some light. To me, if this isnt a real ARG, someone simply used it as a marketing tool for their website, knowing we would run out searching for any info we could and keeping it at the top of search engine lists. Then again, this information could be incomplete and maybe it is a real ARG (as my thoughts of the meaning are). Until further information can be provided to prove we are doing nothing more than helping someone publicize their new website and actually wasting our time looking for something that doesnt exist, I'm not beating my head against any more walls.

Please make your own opinions and decisions, but I'm hoping someone will make this a little clearer for me before I make any decision to remove myself completely.

*EDIT* Also today someone also mentioned sparkrent anagram could be prankster, coincidence?

I know you guys already found this out, but i was messing around with that source code from the solitairea page, i copied it and took out all the <!-- --> symbols, saved it, opened it up, and it just brought up the password box, then brought me to a black page when i put in the correct password. So I'm pretty sure there aren't any secret codes hidden in the source

oh, and explixi, i looked at that shift_jis table, and i don't think it work, because the lowest value on the table was 81 3f, but i don't think any of the numbers in the source are even close to that high.

not like i'm a computer expert or anything, just my II cents
