Anybody need a password Dunno whether people are generally aware that puzzle card #22 Cold Fission contains a hidden password which you can see if you heat up the card.
The puzzle talks about Violets favourite poem, and the puzzle hangs in her room.
Anybody any idea where such a password belonging to Violet might be used?
Oh. Click HERE to see the thread for the puzzle itself

There are a couple of options... a radiator set to a low heat would work ok.. (I've also heard reports of frying pans being used over a very low heat). The best way would be to use a heat pad (like those used to warm aquariums/lizard tanks).

Well, due to the intrinsic nature of the microwave only heating liquids, you would have to get the card wet before putting it in there, which would damage the card from the outset.

Erm, yes, also, I heard that the cards contain foil...therefore, do *not* put them into a microwave. Seriously. Really. As for damaging or destroying cards...I'd have to say that Mind Candy have created some really great, well designed pieces of collectability - at a guess, they aren't going to make us destroy them in order to solve the puzzles.
Again, really, seriously, don't put foil in the microwave.

P.S. I'm serious. Really.

In my experience, just holding it between your two hands, occasionally rubbing, heats it up nicely.

Ignoring this advice gave me the best 'Food Technology' lesson EVER and I got an A* for my Bannoffi pie.

Is this a different password than
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The password is yiistia
because on my card you can see that normally by looking for the bold letters?

Interestingly (although not very) I have three of these cards and the variations between the bold and plain letters is far more obvious on one than the other two...

On my card, I originally spotted the letters were bold and read the message clearly enough then and there. I noticed that there was a difference in the inks of the letters (rather than them just being in bold print) and used my favourite heating source: my desk lamp. A couple of seconds under that and the text disappeard and no damage to the card whatsoever.

I'm not sure the password would be belonging to Violet necessarily - Sente wrote the card, so it could be something to do with him.
Also, the password could have been added by someone else after the card was designed

I hadn't even noticed the ink was heat sensitive, it just had bold letters when I first looked at it and read the message straight off..... which did happen to be in quite a warm room.
Now I've come to look at it again, it may be helpful to know for future cards that the heat sensitive ink is applied to the card after the rest of it is printed, and therefore feels raised to the touch. Seems to be an easy way of detecting extra added information perhaps?
Start prodding those cards, people!

I find that just breathing on my card makes the other letters disappear. The bold letters are pretty obvious on my copy of the card too
