For what it's worth...

Arcturus - 4th brightest star in the sky, orange K1 giant, name means 'bear watcher' as it follows Ursa Major around the North Pole

Rigel - 7th brightest star in the sky, blue super-giant, name come from Arabic - rijl al-jauza - meaning 'the foot of al-jauza' or 'central one' (i.e. the foot of Orion)

that's old information. Arcturus is now classified as the 3rd brightest star, but thanks for the lead! The angel, when surrounded by the ox, the eagle, and the lion, is the evangelist Matthew.

Matthew 3:7 says:

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Matthew 7:3 is part of the "take the beam out of your own eye before you take the mote out of someone else's" passage, but it's not the "punchline", so I don't think it's the clue.

The horse jumping through the flame, however, is a stumper. There are a lot of flaming horses in Finnish mythology, but I can't find names for any of them, except that a "nix" is a monster than sometimes looks like a flaming horse.

The opening verses of Ezekiel speak of creatures with four aspects: ox (or bull), eagle, lion and angel. So I did some googling on Ezekiel + the various constellations and found this:
http://www.recoveredscience.com/astronomy_index.htm
a quick read of it seems startlingly close to our image - the angel is a means of looking at the heavens, a kind of ancient astronomy.

However this guy does appear to be something of a crack-pot and I couldn't find any corroboration of his theories elsewhere (found lots of HILARIOUS sites about the secret codes of the sphinx etc. though).

A detailed reading of Ezekiel might be worth a look if anyone's got a bible handy!

If anyone hasn't got a bible handy, if you so wish, www.biblegateway.com is quite a handy site to look at, fully searchable and tons of different versions including the amplified bible which explains lots of contextual meanings in the texts.

The 4 beasts aren't limited to Ezekiel, although Ezekiel is the one that crackpot theories tend to spring up around. Revelation is the other book worth mentioning, pretty much an encoded book in itself, but apart from the different beasts it also has flaming angels and 3 different keys (key of david, key to death and hades, key of the abyss) and of course, the four horsemen of the apocalype, in particular the horse of War which was fiery and red? It may not be a particularly cool thing to know your stuff about on here, but I know my bible fairly well, so if there's any chance I can help with this I will :)

rach =)

Revelations was my first thought from the image of the angel with the key, but the references there, to the key of hades and death (once) and the key to the abyss (twice) don't have anything to do with a horse and a ring of fire

Is here a good place to list what's been tried and failed, to save people retrying things?

FWIW, following the Dante ideas I tried:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Gates of Purgatory
Gates of Purgatory
Purgatory

and from some weird thing I googled:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Bottomless Pit

From earlier messages, "Heaven" (or the gates to) might be worth a try (although probably too obvious), but I don't want to keep locking out the card (nor racking up my "failed attemp" count) if someone's already tried (another 19 attempts have been made).

Hi all,
I just got this card, and think there may be slightly more to it than the text (maybe, possibly). Looking closely at it, the print is ever so slightly blurred (unless that's my eyes) and some sections, notably the penultimate paragraph, seem to have something else written behind the actual text.

Of course, this may be nothing but artistically making it look like a print book (one of the 't's is smudged too), but I've been playing this game long enough now to know that nothing can be taken at face value on these cards...

I had a bit of a look through some books (of the Bible and others) and here's more or less what I found out.

The beginning of Revelation has an Angel holding an open book, but without a key. There are a lot of references to groups of 7 (Cities, angels, plagues...) in the book but, as previously mentioned, less keys.

Ezekiel has the 4 living creatures with 4 faces and wheels within wheels, as well as flame coming out of a cloud. I didn't have von Daniken as it turned out, but a book of speculation by a NASA engineer explaining how the imagery is actally a spaceship Confused but I still think Chariot of the Gods is worth a look.

Interestingly, I noticed that my fiancée's copy of 'Science & Health' is actually called "Science and Health, a key to the Scriptures". Are there any Christian Scientists out there who would know whether or not there are more keys in Christian Science?

Actually, just had a thought. Don't the Scientologists have steps and keys on the way to being a higher being (or whatever it is they do) ?

First post on this forum after being amazed with the level of thinking that goes on here.

Anyway, I stumbled across the following on a web site dealing with Egyptian God Forms:

------------------------------

The four forms of the Sphynx are:

The Bull

The Eagle or Hawk

Angel or Man

Lion
----------------------------------

The same page mentions "Keys Of Governance" and the Great Angel.

Digging around further, I found this:

----------------------------------------

Decree of Canopus

also called Table of Tanis ancient bilingual, trigraphic Egyptian decree that provided a key for deciphering hieroglyphic and the simpler demotic scripts. The decree, written in Greek, demotic, and hieroglyphs, was promulgated March 7, 238 BC, by an assemblage of priests in honour of Ptolemy Euergetes and his consort Berenice. The two copies of the decree discovered at Tanis (modern San al-Hajar al-Qibliyah) in 1866 are considered by many scholars to be second only to the Rosetta Stone in their value for deciphering ancient Egyptian.

-----------------------------------------

I also found that the reigns of Pharoahs are described in terms of the star that was rising at the start and end of their reigns, which include Arcturus and Rigel.

Also the Tulli Papyrus, a doubtful Egyptian scroll mentions "rings of fire" in the sky which are thought to be reports of UFO sightings.

What the horse has to do with all this I don't know (Chariots of the Gods?).. and why all this Egypt stuff should be in a convent in first place...

Anyway something to put into the blender...

I'm pleased to say that I've solved this card and had my answer accepted. I'll post it tomorrow if it isn't solved on here first.

What I will say though is that your worst enemy would be over-thinking the answer or looking too deep. For a silver card I think most will find the solution simpler than expected and this in itself has made the card fairly fiendish!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Stick to the religious theme, the book of Ezekial is worth reading and having solved the card I still couldn't tell you what the significance of the horse is about, and I don't think you need to worry about it to come to the answer....Stick to the general ideas, a key, religion...

Having looked into this some more, the animals are the other three faces of a cherub, or angel, according to Ezekiel. These four also appear on tarot cards, namely the wheel of fortune and the world, and the three animals and man as part of the zodiac make up the 'grand cross'. The four also represent the four elements. All this information si here along with more:

Can't see any answers, have tried gnosis and enlightenment, both with no success. Can see the seed of an answer here, but no luck... really want to know the answer now though!!!!

Congratulations Rube2K!
*cracks knuckles*
Now tell us the answer.
It's crazy - I don't even HAVE this card and I'm completely obsessed by it.

Congratulations, Rube2K!

Oddly on the card's solve page (which you can see by clicking on it in Rube2K's leaderboard entry) it says that nightingale solved the card first, although she doesn't appear in the list of those who solved it.

Someone's posted on a black card about this. Apparently it lists the first person that tried to solve it. They are going to run a fix soon.

SOLVED

OK, the answer is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Kingdom of Heaven

Other suggestions have been really close, such as

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Gates of Heaven. But from memory the Bible doesn't mention the gates of heaven, it's all 'The Kingdom' this and 'The Kingdom' that. The first two words of the card are 'I came' and they're highlighted. Ezekial's book begins with the right kind of imagery and he sees God (he came). Came from where? Another pointer was the bible with the key across it and Von's clue, which point out that the key is in a book - i.e The Bible is the key to The Kingdom of Heaven.
