[TRIVIA] Labryinth of Reflections

Found this while researching for some information:

This is real world and apparently came out in 1999 as a sequel (or it has a sequal - I'm not clear - its Russian) called False Mirrors.

Quote:
Labyrinth of Reflections (cyber-fantasy)
[Labirint otrazhenij]

This book immediately became a cult book for the Russian web dwellers. In this book we encounter the world of the nearest future, where the Internet technologies, coupled with a "deep-program", produced the internationally shared virtual world - the Deeptown. Of its population , the most mysterious are the Divers, who can at will resist the deep-program and see not only the display picture as it is (where everyone sees an illusion of a very real world) but also programs with all their "holes" as images, and do things which the best hackers could never dream of.

Labyrinth = in mlo's email to emc2
reflection = cascadevortex site

I don't have the foggiest how this relates to anything. It may be an amazing coincidence since I can't find it translated anywhere on the net so far.

Here's a link to Labirint otrazhenij. My Russian is a little rusty, and it was a little too much for Google's translator to handle. Maybe someone else wants to take a crack at it? Who knows, Simulcra is a pretty obscure book to reference, it's certainly plausible that this has something to do with something.

I'd help you out, but I HATE it when Russian words are spelled with English (or is it Latin?) characters. I can read it in one of the Russian online libraries, but I'm not sure it's worth it (not that the book is not worth it, just that it might not be a clue).

Fwiw, I really think the Labyrinth project is more linked to the Minos' Labyrinth.

At this point its probably not worth translating since it is so obscure (at least here in the US - at least to me)

I don't know to what the Labyrinth project refers but it sounds so ominous that it has intrigue me. With that in mind it is likely a dead end... Wink

Lol, I know exactly what you mean. There is only one mention of it. Yet it fits very well with Aquapolis/Atlantis choice. I gues we'll just have to wait to hear more about later.
