just noticed when i mouseover the "Download the java card manager" link, it leads to "ppccm.jar" but does rename it to "ppccm.zip." thanks doublecross for pointing that out! and thanks buzman for the program in general!

Glad that it's been sorted out. I've made a small change at the server which should stop it happening again.
In case there are people who haven't yet noticed, I've moved domains to http://www.perplexcitycardmanager.com/, and there's now an rss feed available on the site so I can keep people informed of updates.
The latest version now generates the Perplex City map from the card back images, and lets you update your card list from the latest data at http://perplexcitycardcatalog.com

Help.
I know I'm a little late on this thread, but just in case someone reads it...
I understand I need to use the .jar file but my computer automatically recognises it as being to do with the Nokia Installer software I have for my mobile.
I guess I need to 'open as..' something, but what? Can someone please help me?

Assuming you're on Windows, the simplest resolution I know of (other than phoning up Nokia and giving them what-for) is to do the following :
1.Right-click on the jar file, and choose 'Create Shortcut'
2.Right-click on the shortcut and choose 'Properties'
3.In the 'Target' box, *add* at the beginning 'javaw -jar ' (without the quotes) so that it ends up reading :
javaw -jar <path_to_jar_file>\PPCCM.jar
4.Click OK.
You *should* now be able to double click on the shortcut to launch the app.

Thanks buzman, but I'm still way behind you.
I just can't get the application to run when I double click it. I uninstalled my nokia software so it wouldn't get in the way, but it just won't go.
I have no clue what I'm doing and searching google for help did me no good as people are using acronyms I don't understand!
I downloaded the .net version and it looks so good and handy, I would really like the new version but I am just too slow with the computer thing to work it out.
I downloaded a thing called 'wrapper' and something called executor that both promised me that they would run .jar apps but a DOS window just appears for a fraction of a second and then nothing.
What am I doing wrong? I am using windows 2000 operating system and beginning to feel the way I do when I look at 'Elucidate'.

Your best bet is to either:
(1) Reinstall Sun's Java engine . This should reassociate .jar files with Java.
(2) Right-click and open using javaw.exe. This should be located in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32.

Seconded - if you're having trouble getting Java installed, you can visit http://www.java.com/. If the Java install doesn't start automatically simply click the 'Download now' link

I believe that if you enter anything into the "Solve" box (i.e. "Answer is XYZ") it will fill in the tick box automatically.

Yep - you're absolutely right Juxta.
I've had some time off over Christmas, but now things are beginning to get back to normal I intend to make some changes to the way the 'solved' checkboxes behave (and get them to update from the pxc leaderboard).
No idea on timing yet, but I'll post an update on the site and rss feed when I've made the change.

Kudos Thank you!
That is all I have to say. I don't know how many people use this software but it runs neat as a pin.
You are a champ!
