Gazdemon = Goofball

Im very sorry for what I have done to a large majority of this community...I would just like to apologise, and ask if there is anything that I can do to make it up to you all?!?
Things arent going well in my life right now, my girlfriend dumped me and my uncle died.
Anything I can do to make things up to you all?
Yours sincerely,
Gazdemon.

EDIT - moved to Various and Sundry from General META as V&S fits better - SG

I'd recommend attending this upcoming PM chat, to be hosted by imbri, and putting a bit more planning into your next effort. Smile

Sorry about your uncle.

Your apology is all that was required. Thanks for doing so. I also encourage you to attend the chat. I think it will be informative, and beyond that, I think many members will respect your resolve to learn what PMing a game for a critical crowd really takes.

Best of luck in the future.

I would HIGHLY recommend joining BTS of another game by a PM who's known to have successful stuff. Then, you can contribute and see how a game works behind the curtain, before starting your own. In fact, I've been BTS of quite a few games (I can't mention any of them because they all have to end first, lol), but I have yet to even think about PMing my own game. Wink

And sorry to hear about your uncle. Sad

Here I was all set to pimp Imbri's chat only to find that Space has done that already.

gazdemon, I'm a goofball at least once a day, and six times on Sunday. I have chronic foot-in-mouth disease, and make more mistakes than I like all the time. You are allowed to beat yourself up about it one time publicly; then it is like the Japanese and nakedness - everyone sees, no one notices. Hey, if a Major network can have an ARG implode (Push, Nevada) why should anyone else be immune. Wink

There are a lot of differnt forums out there. What you did here they would welcome over at IU, because they have a different "terms of use." I would suggest that you familiarize yourself with areas that can be used in game and areas that are strictly out-of-game, you get less bruises that way.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, the more questions the better. If you are worried about what people may think, I can ask them for ya and take all the ribbing. I ask enough dumb ones myself that no one will notice an extra one tossed in now and then.

And as many novelists say, if you want to become a better writer, Read, read, read, the good and the bad, and decide for yourself which one you want to emulate. Wink

Oh, and if you haven't stopped by the #Unfiction Chat room on Chat-solutions.org, please do, its a good place to listen, learn about some of your potential players, and hang out and talk about stuff people normally talk about while hanging out.

Hope to see you around.

Gazdemon,

I will accept your apology if you accept mine for trying to rip apart your ARG attempt.

I do have a few enquiries, but I hope you don't think of this as an interrogation. I am simply trying to better understand a certain phenomenon which has repeated itself here time and time again.

- How did you find out about ARGs? Was there a specific game you followed?

- How long have you been around (perhaps as a lurker?) before attempting to make your own ARG?

- Why did you decided to make an ARG? This question is particularly of interest to me.. what was your target audience, and what were you really trying to achieve?

- Were you serious about the game? Certain elements of your attempt were really not that polished, so were you attempting parody? Was it the best you could do?

Again, I hope you don't feel I'm overstepping my bounds with these questions. You can ignore this if I am.

It's just that I've seen this happen several times now. Newly registered users coming up with their own version of an ARG only to find out that it doesn't work well.. I personally need to understand their motives to figure out how to better support them into the community.

Questons Answers

1) I found out about ARGs from an article in a supplement of a British news paper - The Mail on Sunday- the article is weekly and is called 'Wired' by Rob Waugh, in one article he talked about the phenomenon of ARGs and gave the site www.argn.com a mention. I vistied the site an it went from there. I can't remeber how long ago this was...probably a year or more.
All I can remember is that 'Sable & Shuck' was the talk of the ARG community back then.

2) I lurked on and off since then, up until a couple of weeks ago.

3) I didnt really think about how to properly go about making an ARG, I just thought "I wonder what will happen if i did this" Then I made the mistake of posting as Max Franz on the board. This set things rolling. I then frantically made blogs, and hotmail accounts, and the plot (which was rubbish) fell together around it all.

4) The game was not a serious attempt, it was my aim to make a comedy/parody ARG, which people could joke about...but still play along with.

In answer to your final question...no, it is not the best I can do. Smile
Glad to help!

Dude, the TTFN was utterly brilliant. Akin to the AUUUUUUUUUUGH scene in Holy Grail.
