[OT] Space Cadets

There's a program just started here in the UK, called Space Cadets about taking people into space (its a bit hoax to the people on the show because they believe it). Could this be what this ARG is marketing or am I trying to demolish the forth wall!

[EDIT] Tagged topic appropriately --Gisk

Hi there Smile

I'm afraid not. This is a grassroots ARG made for the love of the genre, rather than for commercial or advertising purposes. Of course it's not uncommon for an ARG to promote something, and often at the beginning of a game it's difficult to ascertain the circumstances behind it. In this case, however, the rationale behind the game is fairly well documented (as it was initially conceived on this very website) and, of course, the meta-site explains more.

Have fun playing, though!

(Incidentally, I think that Space Cadets programme is an awfully crass sort of idea. "And the big joke is... it's a lie!" "Oh.")

The same could be said of any "reality TV show". It's what TV companies make because they can't think of anything original.

The shocking part is that there are people clueless enough to FALL for the show. I read an article on the concept.. and.. dear gods, HOW is anyone fallign for this? It's ridiculous.

The description reminds me of a show we had in the US. I can't really remember the name but it was based on the concept for American Idol. You know, hold a vocal talent contest. Contests advance from level to level as the contestant pool gets smaller and smaller.

Only here's the twist: they tell the people who really can't sing, that they're great. They are the ones that pass. If you have even a mediocre voice you are sent home. So they are left with people who have no business singing EVER let alone in public and they make them think that they are great and since these people are mainly tone deaf they can't even tell the difference.

I only saw part of one or two shows, but it just looked terrible. I felt bad for these people because they are getting all this self esteem and then they will find out - "Oh, by the way, you can't sing at all, you're TERRIBLE, and we've basically been making fun of you ALL SEASON. Here's a prize for being the worst vocalist in America."

Terrible.

The Mirror, a british tabloid newspaper, ran an experiment to find out what loevels people would stoop to in order to get on television. They advertised a new reality TV show called "Biohazard" (or something along those lines), which revolved around the premise that 12 or so contestants would be shut in a house while biological toxins and diseases were leaked into the air, food and water supply. The contestant who managed to last the longest before requiring medical attention would win the prize of a few thousand pounds.

Incredibly, people applied in their droves. One woman stated "I would be perfect for the show as I have a lively personality and have recently undergone breast surgery", and enclosed topless photographs of herself.
