Looks that way, since I can't get in either. I suppose sleep might be an option at this point...

Good call, Burrito! That's definitely something you've found. Ain't no typo I know of that moves a digit 3 places!

And hiding an MP3 that exists - only something you do when you're either updating a site w/ more content, or hosting something for specific people to find!

On the wallpaper photo: There is noise tha tI wouldn't normally chalk up to JPG. It's very grainy, but not in a JPG manner. Like information bits...

I hate suggesting it, but does anyone have any steg software? I tried Camoflague, but I know others are better at steg then I do.

Sound files

I've gone through most of the sound files on WongMo's site... and for the most part, you can reverse almost all of them and they sound alike...

I'm not sure if this is due to the nature of the music itself? (very much tones for meditation) Or if its meant as a clue...

Good job Monki, guess sound recorder didn't correctly reverse the track when I tried. Wongmo is back up, MetaDex was down for a while too. Looks like they're updating. Btw, I noticed the length of the Wongmo tracks listed on the page do not match their actual lengths too.

The lengths of the tracks listed on wongmo's website don't match the mp3 files' lengths because they are merely samples of the tracks.

Crazy wongmo!

Okay, here at http://www.wongmo.org/writings.html there is a writing... some interesting points in it...

Seeking good.
Nature good.
Man made bad.
Creativity good.
Coroprate cookie cutter culture bad.
Self expression good.
Stifling the self bad.
Cultural ignorance bad.
Ocean good.
City bad.
Open minded good.
Emotion good.
Logic bad.

Now, thats not all of them, just some relevant ones...

Ocean good = Aquapolis?
Coroprate = mispelled.... hmmm....

Ah thanks GenerousBurrito, I feel dumb! Anyway no one mentioned about the pictures under Wongmo -> Student Submissions yet. One of them is from Phyllis W. It looks similar to the smiley in the wallpaper. Someone who's good at steganography should run some checks. Also there's another mp3 there.

Audio file analysis:

The really creepy aspect of the backwards audio is due to it being pitched down, and a reverb applied to the whole audio file (thus, you get that wierd "ghost" effect by reversing the reverb). If you pitch the voice to normal speed, then the man sounds normal (albeit w/ the reversed reverb). not much to report. Though it was really creepy hearing it the 1st time, I'll admit.

As far as the files sounding the same backwards and forwards, it's just the nature of the music. It's not like the creator took the file and then appended a reversed version. I haven't DLed all them, but I'll finish that up, do a quick analysis, and head to bed.

I'm sure this whole thing will be figured out by the New Yorkers by the time I check again. :-)

To give better context before this goes any further, am I right in thinking that the only knowledge of leiphe.net and wongmo.com have been through, basically, 'accidental' discoveries? Some kind of logon attempt at underscore, I think, is how we learned about leiphe....

This is relevant because it may be that since we haven't officially been led there yet, we may not have enough context to solve anything yet.

I don't know how Leiphe is connected to all this, but:

Phillip Gairden included an article in PRJ by Dr. Leo Kane, and Dr. Leo Kane is an avid supporter/admirer of Wongmo.

I suppose that the correct process would have been "find referece to Leo Kane, then guess that he has a website, then find the reference to Wongmo, and guess that he has a website".

In regards to the student photos: What are the robot things saying in the graffitti photo?

Dr Wily: Don't worry, the pieces fit. From the MetaDex updates, Phillip mentions Dr Leo Kane. Paranormal Journal 2.4 also carries his article. Wongmo can be linked from Kane's website. And Leiphe was supposed to give an online journalism talk at Wongmo's Hawaii seminar.

Here's another in an infinite series of longshots and stretches of the imagination:

This is a quote from leiphe.net/partners.html:

"Fiona, you were right. I wasn't living up to my potential. Now instead of CLEANING the office, I RUN it."
Lee R, Terre Haute

I get a strong feeling this may turn out to be a pseudonymic testimonial from the new CEO of Metacortex...and I'm thinking leiphe.net contains the crib to figuring out Steve Walsh's password.

Interesting take on it. I agree one of those quotes (probably that one) will turn out to be something more. However, we don't even know where we'd use a password for Walsh, except for Metacortechs (which would also require a user ID)

I'd suggest using the string of numbers we got from the Carelessly crossword puzzle (the puzzle ID), but I have a feeling that if those are Metacortechs IDs, then it'll be Marcus's numbers (since it seems Beth is now getting tangled into breaking/entering/(hacking?))

[ADDED]

Well, now that I think about it, it doesn't seem like Beth's breaking into Marcus's office has anything to do with Carelessly files.

[SPEC]

If "instead of CLEANING the place, I RUN it" is a clue to a password, I will put money on the password being:

JANITOR
