woooooooohooooooooooo! lilly has a new top! Very Happy ok, so maybe im overexcited about it, but theres nowt else to be excited about, as no ones got this blinkin card yet!

only done 2 fails today, am waiting to put the next one in earlier tomorrow, so i dont have to wait all day to have a go, so here are todays nopes...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Acetylcholinesterase and pepsin. i had long winded and complicated theories as to why, but as theyre both wrong, i wont go through it all again!!

incidently loads of new good ideas have been posted, why are none of us getting this right?!! and its prob just me, but i think its -400 that doesnt have a mirror image, not -100. i also think that were not seeing the whole image, and that they do have mirror images, however, i think ure onto somat as they may have been left off fer a reason. did that make sense? well i know what i meant anyway!

i want someone to solve this so i can think of somat else during my waking hours!

If I had the card the first thing i'd try would be:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Milk.

Relating to the Alice through the looking-glass quote:

"How would you like to live in Looking-glass House, Kitty? I wonder if they'd give you milk, there? Perhaps Looking-glass milk isn't good to drink..."

and tying in nicely with Von's clue of reflection and chiral molecules often being bad (i.e. thalidomide etc.). Reversed proteins in milk certainly wouldn't be very good for the body.

However it doesn't really fit with the image as none of the components of milk has structures that match the coordinates given.

If someone has a spare try might be worth it though.

I have a new top AND I actually have this card too.

Tried ICE and ICEBERG but neither were right. Hubbies idea, have to admit to liking his train of thought but alas not right.

Will try milk this afternoon and let you all know!

Christmas party tonight! Woohooooooo!

MILK is incorrect. 1 have two more goes left!

Almost on my way to the party, just waiting for cabs.

Question time. Has anyone thought about aerosols and the damage it does to the ozone layer? Answers like hairspray etc. Eventually, its gonna be lethal. Just a stray strand of thought in a world full of scientific and cosmic wonders!

Again going with that train of thought, how about:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Chicken soup??

http://ask.yahoo.com/20001218.html

That webpage mentions something about Chicken Soup containing a particular amino acid, but I can't find anywhere else mentioning what it is, but maybe that's what this 'card' is about. Differently lethal in the sense that Chicken Soup can sometimes taste really nasty?

EDIT:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Chicken Soup contains a mucus-thinning amino acid called cysteine. (some websites spell it as cystein. It is chemically similar to acetylcysteine.

Other amino acids to take when you have a cold are:

lysine which has antiviral properties.

Pantothenic acid which supports adrenal function.

I don't have this card yet so can someone please try these as answers?

Pretty long shot here, but could it be something that would kill an unborn foetus, but not the mother, (risking bringing up an old arguement) because technically the foetus wouldn't be born, but would still die (differently lethal).

no da

On a brainwave from my chemist friend I tried

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Potassium Chloride and KCl, as he reckoned it must be a really simple substance to have a pattern like that and of course that's what's in a lethal injection. Also tried Potassium Cyanide for my third, probably already tried, but couldn't find for definite

Something that keeps popping up in my head is that maybe Differently is a clue to Diffraction and the substance we are looking for is just lethal.

i want my life back, well what lil life i had!!!

my thinking has also been that its a simple substance due to its pattern, but alot of things ive tried havent been simple, but i thought they were such good ideas at the time, that i tried em anyway! i do think were not seeing all of the pattern tho. spookily uhtoff, i had the same idea last night, and as were obviously both geniuses, or is that geni-i?? we might be onto somat!!!tho the amount of times ive thought that wiv this pesky card...

can ppl stop having such good ideas pls?!! Wink im having enuff trouble working through my trains of thought, without having more sensible options thrust into my fragile lil mind!!

on that note, todays 2 fails...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
atropine
tRNA

im v annoyed, as i should have 1 go left, but it says solve not allowed!!its done that twice now, GGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Evil or Very Mad

I am beginning to think that maybe the answer is Vodka or Gin. Its legal, lethal in large quantities and yet millions of us drink too much of it!

I have little men with jackhammers my head, my mouth feels like I have been chewing broken glass and I cant get rid of the niggling sensation that I am going to hurl at any moment.

Yes it could be that what we are looking for is something harmful to us, that is readily available and many of us abuse! Differently lethal. Ooooh what about Tobacco? Dont cigarettes have many different toxins in them?

Gotta go beddies now as my head hurts and if one more person says 'have the hair of the dog that bit you' I am going to cry!

Could we get somebody back on the idea of actually getting a crystallographer on this?!

Seriously, one of you college kiddies in a good science school (or anyone who lives near a good science school) needs to run down to the right department and find someone!

I can guarantee this: the guessing will not get us to the anwser very quickly, if at all.

If we can find somebody who does it, then they'll probably know ho goes in reverse (or have some wonder-machine that does it for them).

COME ON PEOPLE, SEARCH AND CONQUER! Bang Head
