[META] News from Planet Mind Candy

I'm putting this in as META, read on, and all will become clear...

Anyone looking for a new career might like to take a look here, as the chaps and chapesses at Mind Candy are seeking another member of their merry band to act as "Office Manager/PA".

Also, a new face...or...*looks around furtively* rather, not so new.... Paul McCormick, erstwhile companion, Clapham Common rambler and fan of all things furry, subterranean and short sighted. Another welcome addition to our all-singing, all-dancing, (all-juggling...all-about-eve...all-batross...all-and-oates, all-bran...all-I-want-for-Xmas-is-my-two-front-teeth...all-right, I'll stop now) team of PMs.

J

P.S. Hello to Naomi too, who did a fantastic job of not looking too scared of the strange people she met at the Expo.

I'm certain that Mind Candy will be crying themselves to sleep. Wink

Anyway...I'm sure that a lot of other people who don't earn that much, or simply want to try working for a company which is rather "different" in their outlook, or enjoy working at the "bleeding edge" of a burgeoning industry will be interested. The salary quoted is in fact a chunk more than the National average, FYI, and I'm really looking forward to the BBC's "Headhunters", which will show prospective PMs being taken through Mind Candy's interview process.

The average London salary is just under £35,000.

Anyone would think you're eyeing up a job yourself.

If you actually re-read what I posted, I did say "National" salary. Also, as I'm sure you're aware, the cost of living is higher in London. Plus you should factor in the higher proportion of company HQ's in London, with their requisite CEO and director level salaries skewing the average upwards, etc, etc.

The post wasn't intended as an in depth discussion of the the socio-economic structure of the United Kingdom, merely a semi-humorous sideswipe at someone whom I regarded as being unnecessarily snippy about the job advert.

Anyone would think you're simply being a pedant, again. Laughing

However, I can exclusively reveal right here and now...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I am not applying for a job with Mind Candy. Modesty precludes me from revealing my own salary, however, I can tell you that I am lucky enough to be earning enough that the job does not hold any great attraction for me monetarily.

I posted the link up as news from the creators of the game, 'tis a pity that some people are clearly in need of some form of happy-pills. If you want to apply, apply, if you don't, then don't - it's quite simple.

Edit: Adding that errant " ' " which went astray

Oh, I wasn't disputing it was the National average (which I think is £22,500) just the population you decided to sample wasn't completely appropriate due to the geo-economic unbalance of the UK.

Apologies if you took that comment the wrong way-although I'm not sure why you did. It was just that you're defence of Mind Candy was quite vehement. I was stealing five mins at work and was typing quickly. Maybe I should use !s and emoticons to convey light heartedness, banter and jest.

Although I do live for pedantry it's true ('tis btw), maybe I should just up the dose on the Seroxat.

I too was just grabbing five minutes at work whilst engaged on an entirely pointless phonecall, so perhaps should have taken longer to explain that I wasn't intending it as any sort of deconstructive effort to explain of the intimate workings of the UK's North/South divide, it's huge imbalances in terms of living costs vs salaries or indeed anything of the sort...and as far as I recall, your figure on the National average is bang on the money (no pun).

No need for an apology, you are simply mistaken in your assertion that I was "defending" anyone...it's just news of a job ad, and I explained my reasons for my posts in this string in the post above. As is always the case on the interweb, it's often very easy for meanings to become distorted and points not to be conveyed in the manner in which they were intended - even using emoticons doesn't always alleviate that, as I find to my own cost regularly.

Wink

P.S. Take care with the Seroxat, it can, allegedly according to some reports, have side-effects. As with any anti-depressant, I'd follow the advice of your doctor and make an informed decision upon the benefits of any prescribed medication vs their potential side-effects. For more information you could try Mind but really, your local GP is always the first port of call in any case of this problem.

Ahhhh, hold on there a mo, Juxta - remember, it ain't MC's interview process we were subjected to. The interviewers were a panel of alleged 'experts' who were primarily there to make a telly show. At times the process felt like they actually knew bugger all about the whole Perplex City thing tbh... Anyhow, January 11th. Witness me and solitair making eejits of ourselves!

With my professional hat on I thought I'd better clarify a few income-related assumptions.....

Average has always been a funny term, using the very handy table that <cough>I</cough> produce, you can see that the MEAN London total income (not just earnings) is £29,100 (for 2003/04 tax year) but the MEDIAN total income was only £19.100. Pretty different from £35k.

You're on more solid ground there, the UK mean totla income for 2003/04 was £21,900 and the median was £16,000.

*Tufty* removes his professional hat.
