[INTERACTION] [EMAIL] Seth's emails 12/14/05

Ok, so Seth emailed Amber saying she was wodnerign why he hasn't gotten an update.

I then sent this with the Subject "Feeling Lucky?"

Quote:
Seth,

I know we're not. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but this puzzle has been consuming my mind. I see it when I drive, when I go to job interviews, and we're not even gonna TALK about my dreams.

First, I'd like to thank you for opening your journal to us. You can count on us that we will be keeping it in the strictest of confidence.

As for this Lucky puzzle, my friends and I have been workign it constantly.. and sent some ridiculous emails. We've probably collectively sent well over a hundred by now. Our latest theory is the lucky number puzzle that Steven put into Orbicon's Newsletter #3, but it hasn't panned out quite yet. I'm begining to think you are right with your latest journal entry.. we need to step back a bit. I know I'm gripping so hard that theres no way I could see the forest for the trees.

You mentioned in your journal wonderign how we got the Alien message Puzzle? We'll I have to admit, that I had nothing to do with that one. I was trying all sorts of stuff, like converting the letters to numbers and then pairing.. when a associate who goes by the name of Sin Vraal figured it out, with Alexandra's mom's help in the actual translation... It wasn;t a code at all! It was another language , Vietnamese - Hyung to be precise. The message came out to of course be a dostoevsky quote.

The Thorn one was more of a group solve...Sin Vraal realized that there were 100 letters in the message and suggested mapping the letters to a 10x10 grid and first saw a few recognizable words. Looking at the fletters moving from top to bottom, I began to recognize that they were some german words. Amber and others set to work digilently attempting to piece where the words ended and translating them to english.. giving us a quote from The Little Prince.

Hopefully we'll find a solve for the Luck puzzle soon..

-Andrew

RIght after I sent it, this email popped in.. leading to me to beleive Seth and I had sent emails at precisely the same time.

Quote:
Andrew,

I'm somewhat concerned that I haven't heard back from you since my last email. I can see from my site's access logs that several people have been looking at my investigation journal. I hope I made the right decision when I opened it up to you.

Would it be possible for us to bounce some ideas off each other about the lucky puzzle? I have a few theories I've been working on. Also, there are a few puzzles that you gave me the email answers to, but I have been unable to determine what the solving methods were. Would it be possible for you or someone on your team to email me a walkthrough of the puzzle solves? I'd like to make sure my journal is complete. Hope to hear from you soon

In response to this, AND an error I had made in my email above, I sent this

Quote:
Seth,

Silly me and lack of sleep. I said the language from the alien puzzle was Hyung... it was Hmong. I'm a goofball.

Let's see.. the Quilt puzzle was gotten while I was asleep by Shelina, who just.. kinda.. worked it until she got the result. Kept on rotating. Looking at it, from my experience looking at Amish quilts ( I live where there's ALOT of Amish) The correct placement does sorta fit a pattern.. except the top left corner. I don't get that myself. The solution is:

- green: first position (left it as it is at the beginning)
- blue: second position
- yellow: third position
- red: third position

Oh.. on the Thorn.. the hidden number, 325, behind the text is the number of the asteroid in the LIttle Prince quote.

We've bounced aroudn a few other ideas for the Lucky puzzle over the last 42 hours...

-Chinese Zodiac (horse, dragon, rabbit are the images)
-We did alot with the number 4179.. we keep thinking its for Asteorid-4179 Toutatis, but non of it lead anywhere yet.
-As I said the Newsletter luck puzzle (tried using your name as the basis)
-Random desperate guesses revolving around Luck
-Liberal use of the number 7
-We tried a few things using what you said about not beleiving in luck like .. other skills: intuition, logic, overcoming obstacles, etc
-Alot of research into Maya Angelou (the quote is hers) that lead to nothing
-The names of several other lucky charms

Couple other thigns I cant think of at the moment..

I'll update you more regularly, I promise Smile

Seth replied and gave us the solve!

Andrew,

Thanks for the puzzle explanations, I'll take a closer look and add them to my journal.

You've made some interesting observations concerning the lucky puzzle. I'd say that the Chinese Zodiac idea seems a bit too off the main path to be the correct answer. Everything seems to be pointing us toward luck or lucky. One of your friends, Amber, sent me a link to the newsletter you mentioned and it looks very promising. It would be very like Steven to hide a puzzle in plain sight like that. I've tried all of the lucky messages from the newsletter and they don't work. I also noticed that if you take the first letters of each of the lucky messages and rearrange them you get ASTEROID, which doesn't work either. It seems too much of a coincidence that this newsletter puzzle wouldn't be used in the lucky puzzle. The thing that still bothers me the most is the naming convention Steven used on the pictures. Why use all of those sevens? Those must factor in somehow.

Seth

Just kidding about the solve..

He did give us some nudges though, the newsletter seems like a good path.. good call everyone who supported it!
