[INTERACTION] Stevie 12/15

from Stevie to my 'daughter'

Quote:
My friend Alexandra,

Yeah sometimes it is difficult to live on an asteroid. The garden is a very big place but there is no real blue sky anywhere. When we had some fake snow in the tundra section of the garden, Raidar made robodog trails in it. He even put his nose down in it and tried to analyze it. All it contained was water! I had to laugh at Raidar. He never saw snow before.

I know that Uncle Seth really appreciates all the time and thought your Mommy is putting into this puzzle.

Your space living friend,
Stevie

I am trying hard to help Uncle Seth solve the puzzles. He wanted to read all the newsletters, and see the other puzzles my daddy and I did for them. I don't know what he thinks he might find there.

Raidar knows other languages and I know some spanich too! Yes, he is a wonderful dog. I don't know if you can get one exactly like him, but you can have a real dog or cat, like our other friends have, Libby, Valentine, Pogo, Pip, Toby, Mojo and Yoshi. Gosh I hope I remembered them all. Mommy says that there are lots of animals in shelters that need good homes and people to love. They would make GREAT mascots!

Well, I have to go see Dr. Martha, and check on my bean plants, because we are learning how plants grow and how they make oxygen from the air people breathe out.

Your friend,
Stevie

I too got email from Stevie in the wee hours of 12/15:

Hi Caspian!

You have a flikr account? Where is it?

Davina has a flikr account too, it is at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davinabronco/
She has put some of her drawings there.

Guess what, today was Davina's birthday! So we went to see the Chronicles of Narnia together for her birthday, and then we went and had birthday cake in the cafeteria! It was chocolate cake with vanilla frosting.

Oh the movie was so good! Mister Tumnus looked exactly like I thought he should. But I cried when Edmund was kidnapped and put in the jail cell next to Mister Tumnus. I felt uncomfortable when the White Witch tells Mister Tumnus "He sold you out for a sweetie." Edmund is lucky his family loves him, and that Aslan forgave him. I cried a lot during the movie, because… because it was just like the story…

Dr. Martha said the first butterfly has come out of its' chrysalis! It has transformed from a larvae into a beautiful creature. It is just amazing that something can start out as one thing, then something comes along to change it into another thing.

Signing off from an asteroid in space,
Stevie

Hi Stevie!

My flickr account address is the same as Davina's, except replace "davinabronco" with "caspian_the_tenth" (caspian_x was already taken). Both of your drawings should be on the very top of my list! I have indeed seen Davina's Flickr page. In fact, she's one of my first Flickr Friends! I read on her blog that today was Davina's birthday. I'll have to send her a happy birthday email. I'm so glad you got to celebrate!

It sounds like you loved the movie as much as I did! The Mister Tumnus in the movie was better than I ever thought he could be (much like the rest of the movie)! And yes, I'll admit that I got a bit teary during the movie, too. Especially when, after Edmund is returned, his sister Lucy, who Ed was SO mean to, runs up and hugs him. The unconditional love that pours out of her for her brother still gets me.

That's great news about the butterfly! It is truly amazing when one thing undergoes such a transformation. Makes me remember that anything and anyone can change in dramatic ways, if we only give them the time and space they need to do so.

Hug your family for me!
Caspian

Stevie's subject line and closing make me wonder... She mentions "asteroid" in each... The Newsletter #3 puzzle phrases spelled asteroid... Each time Raidar had a message for Libby (sister's dog), the Vigenere key was in both the subject, usually also in the body of the meassage. I think we are getting close...

Clue-by-four

I sent Stevie an email asking about Spanish and a secret message for Raidar about whether or not Seth carries anything in particular (that might for example be lucky):

Asteroid Princess Stevie wrote:

Querido Amy,

My parents taught me some Spanish, and I learned more from classes on the computer. We have some people who speak Spanish, but we also have people who speak Hmong, Cantonese, French, Arabic, and a few other languages. Sometimes my Dadday writes puzzles in other languages and then I have to track down the language to solve the puzzle. Doing internet searches can help me with that.

Did you know that Wasilei station is carved out of an asteroid?

Raidar has a message for Jedi:
.... --- .-.. .- / .--- . -.. .. --..-- / ... . - .... / .- -.. .- -- ... / -.. --- . ... / -. --- - / -.-. .- .-. .-. -.-- / .- -. -.-- / --- -... .--- . -.-. - / - .... .- - / -.. --- . ... / -. --- - / .... .- ...- . / --- .-. -.. .. -. .- .-. -.-- / ... .. --. -. .. ..-. .. -.-. .- -. -.-. . .-.-.- / .... . / -.-. .- .-. .-. .. . ... / .- / .-- .- .-.. .-.. . - --..-- / .. -.. . -. - .. ..-. .. -.-. .- - .. --- -. / -.-. .- .-. -.. ... --..-- / .- -. -.. / .- / -... .-. .. . ..-. -.-. .- ... . .-.-.- / .- .-.. .-.. / .-- .. - .... .. -. / -. --- .-. -- .- .-.. / .... ..- -- .- -. / .--. .- .-. .- -- . - . .-. ... .-.-.- / ... . - .... / .- -.. .- -- ... / .. -. - ..- .. - ... / - .... .- - / - .... . / . -- .--. .-.. --- -.-- . . / -. . .-- ... .-.. . - - . .-. ... / -- .- -.-- / .... --- .-.. -.. / .- / -.-. .-.. ..- . .-.-.- / -- .- -.-- / - .... . / ..-. --- .-. -.-. . / -... . / .-- .. - .... / -.-- --- ..- .-.-.- / -... ..- . -. .- / ... ..- . .-. - .

Stevie

Raidar says:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

"HOLA JEDI, SETH ADAMS DOES NOT CARRY ANY OBJECT THAT DOES NOT HAVE ORDINARY SIGNIFICANCE. HE CARRIES A WALLET, IDENTIFICATION CARDS, AND A BRIEFCASE. ALL WITHIN NORMAL HUMAN PARAMETERS. SETH ADAMS INTUITS THAT THE EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTERS MAY HOLD A CLUE. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU. BUENA SUERTE"

So there's some more blatant clueing for us. HMM, asteroid?

Hi Caspian!

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie too. I wish I could go see it again right now! I guess I will have to wait for the DVD set to come out. I wonder if they are going to do any of the other books? They should do the Magician's Nephew next, because it talks about how Narnia was born. I love the part where the Person who would become the White Witch throws the bar she tore off the lamppost in England and it grows into a new one. That is what Lucy sees first thing when she gets to Narnia!

Did you know that Wasilei Station is carved out of an Asteroid? That is an amazing transformation too! They even made it spin so we would have something like gravity. Its called centripetal force. Every time I hear centripetal, I think of flower petals turning around and around. We have a Tube train that runs from Port Rosetta all the way to the other end of the asteroid, where the environmental systems are. There are little robots on the outside of the asteroid that did all the digging on the inside of the asteroid. The same people who made them made Raidar. Now their job is to make the solar panels that will eventually supply all the power to the Station. We may even be able to send left over power from the Asteroid to the Ground Base. That will be a good thing because we won't need to burn any oil to power the station then.

May all your wardrobes be full of warm and cozy coats,
Asteroid Princess Stevie

Alright, so that's two emails to me that use the word Asteroid in the subject, not to mention her random paragraph about Wasilei being built on an asteroid. She also seems to be talking about transformation a lot, too. Her last email talked about a butterfly (which we had not previously discussed) finally coming out of it's chrysalis.

Transform the word Asteroid?

Her last closing was "signing off from an asteroid in space". Notice this closing mentions "warm and cozy".
Sorry for the double post, but I just got another email from Stevie:

Stevie wrote:
Subject: Almost forgot: Rotten Vegetables
Unto King Caspian the Tenth, son of Adam, Seated by right in Cair Paravel, Ruler of Narnia

I almost forgot to tell you what else happened today!

Dr. Martha showed me how she makes food for the plants! She collects all the waste paper, the rotten vegetables, and the left over things from people's plates in the cafeteria, and she makes compost out of them. She lets the piles of rotten food sit for a while, and every so often she takes a pitchfork to the rotten pile and turns the stuff over. She said she likes to turn the stuff over seven times when she does it. She also gives the rotting vegetables a drink of water ever so often and some germs, and also worms! The room was a little bit stinky, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Your friend,
Rotten vegetable turner Stevie

Notice the talk of ROT and TURNING...

Ofiuco, funny you talked about Spanish when I already sent a message to Raidar a message in spanish Razz
My mail form Stevie:

Quote:
Hola Hylena!

How sad about the baby birds! I asked my mommy if she knew why baby bird die. She said that there are lots of reasons caged birds do not do well. Baby birds need a lot more of some types of food than adult birds. She even said that baby birds need to eat sand! I laughed at that, but Mommy said that the old wives tale about ostriches puttion their head in the sand is because Ostriches need to have a lot of pebbles and sand in their crops to grind up their food so they can digest it. I never knew that!

Dr. Martha showed me how we feed the plants in the garden! All the waste paper and vegetables that spoil or don't get eaten for dinner are taken to a composting room where they have to rot for a bit. There are microbes added, and she even adds worms to the pile! Yuck! Every so often she gives the pille of rotting stuff a drink of water and stirs it up a little. Then when it is all done rotting completely it is good dirt to put out in the garden! Isn't that amazing?

Oh, I loved the Chronicles of Narnia movie! I wish I could go again!

Raidar sends puppy kisses!

Hasta tarde,
Stevie

Might it be a good idea to keep one thread for email interaction with Stevie? Or perhaps each person to have their own thread of Stevie email interaction? Since Stevie is so talkative by email, it just seems silly to create all these threads for essentially the same thing, but on different days. Just a thought.
