good for you!

and the picture is taken from wikipedia again as are the pictures of empress Catherine, Leonardo and Euler's theory. I don't know if it's important but it looks like Steven used wikipedia for this riddle.

What do all these people have in common?

April 15th!

From the top:
Leonardo da Vinci, born on that date
Thomas Hart Benton, born on that date
Euler, born on that date
Catherine the Great, born on that date
Tokyo Disneyland, opened on that date
Insulin, first widely available on that date
Bessie Smith, born on that date

And, of course, the big day - tax day - is April 15th (at least in America).

The painting seems to be portraying conquistadors leaving their anchored ship and coming ashore to meet a group of natives in their rowboats, but numerous searches haven't yielded much. I know nothing about art movements or periods--does anyone here have a "style" we could attatch to the painting when searching for the name and artist? I know it isn't "impressionist" and I don't think it's "surrealist," but after that, I'm lost.

This is a style similar to Diego Rivera's murals. Benton's particular style of mural is apparently known as regionalism, perhaps because he focuses on the culture of a particular area -- which I guess is the American Midwest. Wikipedia has a nice article on him.

googleing for april 15 and sattelite you find that the DART satellite is to be (or was ) launched on that day.

Also, in irc it was found that looking in Stevies Blog, shes got an entry for 15 April too. The one with the money...(narts) Putting two and two together:

emailing dartsSPLATmaefamily.info gets:
Quote:
Not quite the answer I was looking for. "the king was in his counting house counting out his money"

That's from the old nursery rhyme "sing a song of sixpence"

Quote:

Sing a Song of Sixpence,
A bag full of Rye,
Four and twenty
Naughty boys,
Bak'd in a Pye.

When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Was not that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?

The king was in his counting-house,
Counting out his money;
The queen was in the parlor,
Eating bread and honey.

The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes,
There came a little blackbird,
And snapped off her nose.

Also, in the source of the bigwin page:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
<!--url's used in the movie-->
<!--text used in the movie-->

Maybe we should be looking for a movie released on April 15th??

That code's actually been in each of the pages so far - I think it's an artifact of the program used to create the site or of copy & pasteage.

That's actually from the swf files. I believe it's used for search engine indexing. Usually there will be actuall text from the swf after those tags.

emailed seth with update so far
from me:
Quote:
Hello Seth,

From the April 15 lead - theres the DART mission was launched to a satellite
(Demonstration of Autonomous Rendezvous Technology (DART) was on april 15th. Something that would ring a bell with Steven so "dart" also... his daughter, stevie had a blog post dated april 15, where she explained about her dads money, and gives five different types of foreign currency. If we take the first letter from each of the moneys country of origin, we get DARTS (except the D for denmark is really N for norway, but they still use the same sounding money krone)!!

Emailing darts@maefamily gives a hint email saying:

"Not quite the answer I was looking for. "the king was in his counting
house counting out his money"
...

and thats where we are today...

and the reply is:
Quote:
chippy,

Good work! Is there a reason why you chose to use the D for Denmark rather than the N for Norway? It looks like Steven prepared for the possible confusion over the two as I just tried nartsSPLATmaefamily.info and received the same response. Interesting.

I'm leaving right now to find Stevie to see if she still has the money that she scanned for her blog. I'll keep you updated.

Well its good to see THATS over. So I didnt stick aroudn all night like I said I would, my internet died. The Verizon guy just finished fixing it.

Fun music on this one.

So.. we have

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Country - Note

Norway - Kroner
Armenia - dram
Rwanda - franc
Thai - Satang
Swedish - Krona

It has be confirmed that it a Norwegian mark. So.. maybe its NOT the letters from the coutnry but from the notes?

Another possibility is soemthign with the math..Chippy says the numerical cvalues of each note total to 360. I refuse to beleive that a mathematically significant number just HAPPENED to come out of that.

Yeah, thanks Shelina for taking this away. Wink

As stupid as the solve now appears, you can't really blame them. The puzzle in the lucky messages was "asteroid". We found that a hundred years ago, but still, it was the a puzzle to find it. And then you get 7s everwhere...I was actually surprised that with all the silly things everyone tried nobody ROT-ed asteroid in all variations possible. You surprise me. Razz

This one looks more fun. But "darts" should be the answer. It's not, so I guess you go and ROT it 25 times. Laughing
Unless you see a number here somewhere.
I only notice that the pictures are not consecutively enumerated. Might be something up with that, no?
