Even more on the Lucky Puzzle

Several people have emailed me about the lucky puzzle. It seems everyone is just as frustrated as I am. I really think we need the puzzle to lead us to the answer. Trying to make random connections ourselves doesn't seem to be working. Here are a few of my observations...

A) "If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform one million realities." - My gut says that use of the word "lucky" and the word "transform" is important. I don't think the fact that the quote is by Maya Angelou is important.

B) 77.jpg - a rabbit's foot is thought to be lucky

C) 777.jpg - a horseshoe is thought to be lucky

D) 7777.jpg - a luck dragon - another reference to being lucky

E) A hidden message in the source code says, "Bronco's lucky number must be 4179. What's lucky for you?" - 4179 obviously refers to the asteroid Toutatis. Many people who have emailed me suggesting that we could be looking for another asteroid number. That speculation doesn't feel solid to me since Steven didn't say "What number is lucky for you?". I think this is another reference to lucky and also to asteroid.

All of the elements seem to have one thing in common - lucky. Thankfully, Amber and Andrew pointed me to a puzzle Steven wrote for a recent station newsletter called "Lucky Message". Already Stevie's friends have shown their worth to this investigation.

Steven had all of the newsletters on his desk and there were copies of all of them in the New Dawn on the way up. There are even copies of all of them in my room! Assuredly, if I hadn't taken so long to figure out Steven's original letter puzzle I would have had the time to peruse through the station newsletters. I would have seen that they contained puzzles from Steven and looked for one of his usual secret messages. Everything just happened so fast with Steven disappearing... I guess from this point forward I'm going to have to think a bit further out of the box. I'm also going to have to become more comfortable with accepting help from others on these puzzles.

Since the Lucky Message puzzle has the hidden message "asteroid" in it and the 4179 clue refers to an asteroid, I firmly believe this is the next step we are supposed to take in this puzzle. The only thing left is to figure out what to do with what we have now.

Several more updates in Seth's blog talking about the lucky puzzle solution (it seems someone beat me Razz).

And there is a nice explanation for the quilt puzzle, too Smile

Seth has updated his blog to include details on The Flying Images Puzzle:
Quote:
The Flying Images Puzzle

The page has a series of images flying by with a song playing in the background. So far we have a partial solve for the puzzle...

SOLUTION:

From Caspian:

So far we've identified:
1) Leonardo da Vinci's Self-Portrait
2) Burlesque by Thomas Hart Benton
3) Euler's Theorem/Equation
4) Catherine the Great
5) Tokyo Disneyland
6) 3D model of Insulin
7) The song playing is "Backwater Blues Version 2" by Bessie Smith

The connection so far: each of the above people were born on April 15. Disney Tokyo opened on April 15, Insulin was first widely available on April 15.

OK, our obvious connection is April 15. So what's next?

Woo-hoo! I'm mentioned! Very Happy Not that I actually solved any of those pictures (I knew Euler's - I just didn't post it fast enough!), nor did I figure out the April 15 connection. I just summarized and sent him the email. Notice I say "we've identified" not "I've identified". Credit goes where credit is due. Good job to everyone who ID'ed the pics and discovered the April 15 connection.

"Good," said Aslan. "If you had felt yourself sufficient, it would have been a proof that you were not ."

From Andrew:

Seth,
So, we solved the Flying Images.

The connection to the money on Stevie's blog was dead on and the money you got her to post later, finished it off.

All the notes together were:

Italian Lira
Fiji Cent
Romania Leu
Eritrea Nafka
Oman Rials
Norway - Kroner
Armenia - dram
Rwanda - franc
Thai - Satang
Swedish - Krona

We all worked together to find the notes... but Abraxas pulled off the REAL solve. He anagramed all the first letters of the countries and found: Rainforest.

So thats our solve.. next puzzle is MATH - and I just packed my TI-89 away in preperation for moving...

Great work team!

For reference, the money scans are posted on Stevie's blog in the April 15th and December 16th entries.
