Hey rammer,

Guy sent me the answer to the puzzle in an email..:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
One Of Them Will Die
(See above)

I think that we now need to concentrate on the briefcase and Don being on the loose..

So Guy wants him to sit in on the interview eh? I think that we need to feed andy with some questions to ask.

And where is michael?

Greetz,

Draghkar

If Andy is allowed to ask questions during the interview, I think he should definitely ask about that briefcase (sorry, am I stating the obvious again?). Also, it would be good if he could get info from Vincent regarding his and Don's favorite hiding places. Of course, you can't just ask, "Where do you think Don is hiding?" It'll have to be subtle.

got another message from guy:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Draghkar,
I have to admit I'm a tiny bit disappointed that you haven't responded to my e-mail.
We have a few loose ends to tie up before this thing gets put to rest. Let's not
forget, I did as you asked. No one got hurt so that means your informant is safe.
But we still haven't tracked down Don Kalakov.
So, have you spoke to Andy yet? I guess not because he hasn't said anything to me.
What are you to him? obviously you're not a friend..
So what do I want in return you might ask? I'll tell you, I want an answer to
another one of Vincent's cryptic riddles.
I've attached the file, he had a case with him when we made the arrest. But he ain't
talkin. All he gave me was this time waster of a puzzle to solve. To be honest, I
just don't have the time. (I have however taken the time to rewrite the instructions
just in case you can't make them out)
Its all yours.
-Guy-

I attached the things he sent with it..

Am pondering the answer i will sent, but wanted to share this with you all arlready..

Greetz,

Draghkar

Numer game...

Im a little confused here...

"three are odd, one is even." <- This line says that there are only four numbers used, but of course, it says on the notepad, 'no number is repeated'

?!?

i followed the instrus tions till here and i get as far as...

3, 1, 6
4, ?, ?
?, ?, ?

any thoughts guys?

You're breaking the "3 are odd" rule...

Try 3198 or 3194 or 3192 or 3176
These fit all of the rules so far

Now, it could be that we are supposed to read "the last" as "the last number in each column and row" and not as "the last = the fourth". However, when you get to the end of the last row, which one is the fourth number? The first one in the first row? Or how about when you are doing the columns? Which one is the fourth number for the first column? the "1"?

It really doesn't make too much sense to me right now. But I'll work on it some more later.

EDIT:

Figured something out...which basically tells me that this puzzle maybe itsn't supposed to be solved.

"one is even"

In the way that it is written I would assume that this means that one number in each row or column is even or one of the four numbers is even.
Either way, it can not be so. Here is why:

In order for one number to be even and also be one of the four, the grid must look like this:

EOO
OEO
OOE

There are only 5 Odd numbers, not six (as would be needed for this to work out. Also, there are 4 Even numbers, not 3.

The above "solution" is also the case if we are to only have one even number in each row or column.

Maybe there is something that I'm missing. I have search Google for a possible solve to this riddle but can not find anything as of yet.

Oh, and just for completions sake... the line "one is a multiple of two" doesn't need to be in there because all even numbers are multiples of 2". Unless it means that one number is equal to two numbers multiplied. Which could be. But I don't think so...

The only two sets of numbers that multiply together to equal another number which is 1-9 are:

3X2=6
4X2=8

"1" multiplied by any of the numbers equals that number and no number is supposed to repeat. Unless it counts as the same number. Who knows?

Brain Buster, indeed.

Another meaning of this might be:

A) "The sum of the 'digits' of three of the rows or columns is odd."
B) "Digit in field one is even."

Same with "Two are a multiple of three, one is a multiple of two".

It's only an idea Smile

I just received another mail from Michael:

subject: The holliday is over.

Quote:

Draghkar,

Im back, what the hell did I miss??

Went to Vincent's place, nothing. Went to Regent Harbour, nothing.

Vince won't answer his cellphone, I went to Nigel's Diner (the
shell that used to be Nigel's Diner anyway) nothing. Vince and Don
used to meet there all the time, thought maybe they were hiding?

Whats goin on Draghkar? you said something about a raid right?

This sucks. Please help me out here!!

So I replied:

Quote:
Michael,

Lots of things have changed. You know about the raid. It happened. The feds raided the place and apprehanded Vince and some others. Andy was freed. My contact with the feds btw is guy anderson. Anyways, don got away, but we obtained the briefcase.

Are you good at solving puzzles? We received a puzzle from guy that was given to him by Vince.

If so, i can send it to you.

If you have more questions, please let me know.

Draghkar

PS. Any idea where Don might hang out?

Greetz,

Draghkar

Just received another mail from Andy:

Quote:

Hey Draghkar,

how have things been? I guess you heard (and read on my blog) that
I'm back on track, and that Vincent's interview didn't go too hot.

Thanks for helping to save my life back there, I owe you one.

So, Guy tells me he gave you that code to crack, have you solved it
yet?

If you ask me, it'll be one of those things where people make it
much more complicated than it has to be without thinking logically.

Let me know how you get on anyway.

- -Andy

I will send him a reply later today or tomorrow
need to read back on the puzzle stuff
maybe you guys can help me there?

Greetz,

D.

Logically? Hmmmmm.... well, logically doesn't work. There are just too many veriations, even with the 4 numbers (see my earlier post). And even if we do get it right, what would the answer be? Are we supposed to e-mail the outcome back? find a webpage? What?!?

Excuse me if I get a little frustrated when things to don't the way that they are supposed to for me. I now that I should get this puzzle and I just can't. I know that I'm searching to hard for the answer, maybe oversteping some things and messing it up completely.. but that's just me. Smile

Logically? Okay, I'll try that route and see what happens. Smile

so glad that you are out.. I hope that you are ok and that vince didnt hurt you..

That code. that darn code. the solution is on out lips however.
It looks like you had a look at it. Can you give us some intel on the riddle? some hints and tips?

I received an email from michael. He just came back from new york. he has been on vacation. can you imagine? he missed all of it.

Hope you can help us with that riddle..

Thanks,

Draghkar

hope that will get us some hints and tips

EDIT
I just checked andy's blog. There is a large post on the interrogation of vince in there. definitely worth reading.

got a reply form andy:

Quote:

Draghkar,

Thanks for your concern, I am fine.

Well I had a quick glance at it. Seems like Vincent wants things to
appear a lot more complicated than they actually are..

Come to mention it - I have a terrible feeling he's planned this
from the start, the kidnapping, the capture, the puzzles and mind
games.

See, Vincent thrives on power, as long as he has the upper hand he
is happy. Smug bastard.

He wanted to get caught, and judging from the way the interview
went down (did you catch my updated manuscript?) he loves it. He is
STILL in control as long as he can hold the mysteries within that
case against us.

My guess is it's a simple number mapping, a bit like punching
numbers into a number lock. Just focus on the 'co-ordinates' he
uses, thats the key, Its not a very well known form of code, thats
why its so damn difficult for most people to solve, they're just
not used to it.

- -Andy

now we need to look at the puzzle again...

Greetz,

D.

got an email from andy:

Draghkar,

Since you're having so much trouble solving the code I thought I
might write a break-down of the technique.

Enjoy..

I received an email from Andy today. Here it is:
Patrol <-e -Andy wrote:
Hi All,

I thought I might just clear the air for a moment and keep you
updated on my situation..

I am free, safe and back on track.

Now thats out of the way I can safely say things have gotten that
much more confusing since Vincent was running the show.

Put simply, Don Kalakov has fled and is keeping an extremely low
profile, so far the FBI have not managed to locate him.

Micheal Harrison is not responding to my e-mails and is not at his
flat, I have requested Guy Anderson apply for a search warrant.

We are still in desperate need of someone to crack the number
matrix. If anyone can offer a helping hand please come forward.
Remember, trial and error, don't be afraid to submit a theory.

We have yet to accumilate enough evidence to hold against Vincent.
We also need to make contact with anyone involved with Vincent or
Don.

Please, there is enough here to sort through, I am sure you are all
intelligent enough to help out. After all, I'm still here thanks to
you.

Your co-operation is appreciated in advance.

Thankyou.

- -Andy

Any new suggestions to this number matrix riddle so far?

Greets,
PatRol

got another mail from guy:

Ok draghkar,
Heres the deal, Ive scheduled a second interview with Vincent, the first one didnt
go too well.
Any questions you want me to ask? Cos it doesn't seem things are gonna work out
here, circumstancial evidence if we're lucky we're lookin at a few months, if the
court doesn't laugh us out first.
I'm just too impatient, sometimes I feel like just passing the buck.
Anyway things seem pretty quiet on your end, anything you wanna say?
Oh who cares.. looks like once again Vincent Kalakov is gonna walk away no charges
made. I just hope whatever is in that case can put him away...

Anyone any questions?
