SOLUTION:

The code was a simple substitution cipher. The key to figuring it out was discovering that each letter covered two tiles. Once decoded it read "An obvious question to be asked about the expanding universe is". Googling the quote gives us the answer - "how did it all start?".

When I emailed howdiditallstartSPLATmaefamily.info I received...

I thought I had everything all figured out. Late one night, I got up the nerve to bring up the power outage to Bronco. I told him I knew what his plan was. I told him I knew that he was the one who was behind the power outage and that he had switched the data tapes to reprogram the micro robots. I told him I knew that he was going to sit back and let that asteroid destory the earth. For what seemed like an eternity, he just looked at me, laughing. "You've been reading too many comic books, young man", he said. He pulled out a file from his desk drawer and slid it across the desk. Inside it were security logs, photos, fingerprint analysis documents, eyewitness accounts - all pieces of evidence collected to prove that I was the one who tampered with the data tapes that night. I was dumbstruck. From that point on, I was forced into being Bronco's biggest supporter.

I'm not sure if this will be important or not, but the quote looked quite familiar to me when I first read it. After thinking about it for a while, I think I remember seeing that in the Tao of Physics. Google says it's from a John W. Hawkins essay. I thought I'd mention it just in case it ends up being important in the future.

(And before anyone asks, I already asked a few people here if they had a copy of Tao of Physics without any luck.)


The last bit is interesting.. its the first time I've seen Seth really comment on the actual content of an email from Steven. Anyone have a copy of the Tao of Physics?

 		he has as much of the puzzle solved as we do, but he is going to go talk to bronco...

I'm nervous though, I sent him an email about the puzzle and my name is Jack, im assuming it is me he refers to, but I don't remember ever saying my name...

 		Yeah.. That makes me nervous. I hope he's careful. I'm not sure what Bronco's capable of at this point.

Seth'll somehow indicate he's making some progress, so Bronco doesnt toss him off the station for being unproductive (assuming Bronco wasnt directly responsible for Stevens dissappearance) yet have it all be a lie as he cant reveal any of what he knows...
