[RT] Arcane Academy - Rookery Tower

Ok, a quick search tells me that this hasn't been mentioned before so...

A few minutes ago, whilst I was minding my own business, I recieved a rather unusual e-mail. It went a little bit like this:

Quote:
Dear friend,

You are receiving this missive because at some time in your life you
have expressed the desire to know magic. Real magic, to bend the
universe to your will, to hold fire in the palm of your hand.
And I can help you.

www.ArcaneAcademy.com is a new website, giving you access to all the
secrets of the mystic realms

For nine centuries, in secrecy and silence, these mystical arts were
handed down to the daughters and sons of the ancient family Le Fay. As
the magic in the world dwindled near to death, this potent flame was
kept alive in the encroaching night of the spirit.
Now in the dawning of the twenty-first century, before the tide of the
ever-increasing technological wonders which boggle the mind and elude
the soul, I, Simon Mordred Le Fay, have decided to end my families age
old silence and secrecy.

Herein you will find the methods and madness of which the arts of my
forebears consists. This is not a fantasy story, this is not new age
spiritualism. This is not the realm of Harry Potter or his ilk.

The Arcane Academy is a real endeavor to bring back to this modern world
the arts which were once so much feared, admired and sought after in
times that have passed now into legend. The enchantments and practices
that can be found here are nothing less than the wisdom and folly of
the magicians of old.

In order to progress to being able to view and learn more potent spells,
students will find it necessary to pass tests of their arcane knowledge.
This is needful in order to maintain both the safety and the worthiness
of our pupils.

Enrollment into the Arcane Academy is free; monetarily. You will however
find that magic exacts it's own price in body, mind and spirit. I beg
you, if you are looking for an afternoon's entertainment, look
elsewhere. The wonders taught here are no game, or if they are, they
bear much more resemblance to blood-sports of the time of their
practice.

Of course, you don't have to join. You don't even have to look. But will
your searching heart allow you to turn away? Or will you take just one
peek?

Simon M LeFay
Director of Studies
Arcane Academy

Now, I've never expressed the "desire to know magic" at all but oh well. A quick look around the site (www.ArcaneAcademy.com) gives me this page: http://www.arcaneacademy.com/procedure.htm On it it mentions "filling out a simple form" to apply and this:

Quote:
Given that practical examinations are unfortunately out of the question, timed, written examinations will therefore be conducted via AOL or Yahoo instant messenger.

hmm... So, Is this a wonderful trailhead or not? I think i'll do a bit more digging but first impressions tell me to keep my eye on it.

Just a quick note for people emailing Le Fay. I emailed him back a response, and I got a Mailer-Daemon error response. Anyone else get this?

Sorry for the triple post. There's a link to a store on the "Arcane Market" page. The store talks about different wands and such, and mention Rochester NY, the town I'm in. Do I spy a live-event?

Browsing around the Le Fey Academy website, if you go to talismans and click poison talismans, you get the stock warning of not being of sufficient level to acess the page and then are redirected to a page which includes a diagram and the following code:

Nope, I got the same e-mail, never played RT (although I'm most likely gonna look into it now) and I live in US.

And if you click the Arcane Market link, it leads you to http://www.reparanormal.com/Store.htm

Looking at the boxes:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
it's the clue for the cipher code, the family tree of arthur (the blank box should contain his name. The other boxes are anagrams (guinevere, mordred, morgan etc) of the other family members. Although should Morgan have another a? And also reminded me that Morgana le Fey was Arthur's half sister...nice bit of incest there Rolling Eyes

After originally getting the mailer-daemon, this has now been changed to:

Dear friend,

Thank you for your application. It is with great pleasure that I welcome
you into the Le Fay Academy of Arcane Arts as a novice level apprentice.

Please take your time to become familiar with the basic principles and
methodology of the Arts Arcane. It is my recommendation that those
beginning to study these arts take at least a week to attune themselves
to new levels of energy and consciousness before attempting any
challenging practices.

That said I am happy to provide you with access to the novice level
compendium loctated at http://arcaneacademy.com/cqstercn1/novice.htm
While the library of spells is at the current time limited, I beg your
patience as I, and the rest of the academy staff begin to transcribe
our ancient knowledge into the new frontier of the internet.

Please familiarize yourself with the content of these spells, as well of
those of introductory level, as both will be covered on the Journeyman
level access exams.

Sincerely,

Simon M. Le Fay
Director of Studies
Arcane Academy

erm...which makes me a novice of the magic arts...guess that's another of those Christmas dinner family revelations. Still, nothing that can't be solved by a drunken game of Cranium! Although will have to be careful that drawing with my eyes closed so it doesn't turn into automatic writing... Rolling Eyes

From taozero:

He has difficulties posting so I'll be posting for him Very Happy

I tried to write back to Simon Le Fey about the exams (which are supposed to be timed exams over AIM or YIM), asking if another format could be made available. I got a mailer-daemon response that my message failed - but it failed to reach sllefey.arcaneacademySPLATgmail.com, instead of the given address of slefeySPLATarcaneacademy.com. Possibly a different 'reply to' address in the response to my novice application.

Also from taozero:

On the forum profile for Simon Lefey he shows his email as 'slefety.arcaneacademy@gmail.com', and also has a birthdate of december 8th, 1978, instead of 1980-whatever that it says at the website.

and

Petite Persephone (petitepersephoneSPLATyahoo.com) also has an account, as does Johanna Faust (johannafaustSPLATgmail.com)

and

Amaryllis Sinedeo has an account on the forums, with the email address asinedeo.arcaneacademySPLATgmail.com, with a birthdate of May 25th, 1980
