Trading etiquette A plea.
I've spent numerous hours over the last couple of months seeking potential swaps and making offers (via the fantastic Perplex City Trades ), only to either...
...get an email back saying 'Sorry, I've already got that card.' or...
...get no response at all.
We're all busy people with busy lives, but please - if you're going to use the site at all take the time to keep your profile updated and respond to emails proposing trades. (If my offer isn't good enough or you don't want to trade with someone in Denmark, say so - a simple 'no' is better than nothing.) Anything else is really inconsiderate and a waste of a useful resource.
Thanks.

Hear hear
If people are using the http://www.perplexcitytrades.com/ site, the card manager app (link in sig) will let you keep this updated with little effort, and will generate your trades lists (for forum posts, etc).

I couldn't agree with you more! I try to wait for a response before making another offer to someone else for the same card. But, how long should I wait? I don't know if you've not received my email for some reason, you no longer need what I'm offering, you no longer have what I need, or my offer just isn't good enough (although I'm open for negotiations). In any case, have the courtesy to TELL ME so I can move on to the next person! I even went to the trouble of tracking down the correct email address of one that's listed wrong on PerplexCityTrades, but still got no response. Keep in mind, the person you ignore this time, just might have what *you* need next time!

I've generally found that most people respond quickly, and only one person has already got the card, and I've done about ten trades, however I share your frustration.
It would be cool if there was a way of automatically searching for someone who has a card you need AND needs a card you have. Currently you can do either or, but not both together...

I thought you could do that on advanced search? Correct me if I'm wrong though.
The card manager app seems great but if you are behind a proxy (like me) it doesn't work so I can't use it for updating (I do list on their though and update manually).

I believe the advanced search will let you do both the 'has card I need' and 'needs card I have' searches, but not as a single search. I think this would be a valuable addition (as well as showing the country of the users in the search results)
poozle : I'll get right on that and add proxy support. Just let me know in the future if there's something that's stopping it from working as it should, and I can add it to the list of todos.

I'd only just noticed about 4 hours before I posted this because I'd never had any cards to trade before and so never tried it.

Sorry, uneasydj! I do try to update, but the trade came through in the wee hours last night (most traders are in the U.K.) and I hadn't updated when your request came in. Bad timing! I'll send you the card if/when I get it. . . free of charge.

Very generous, but not necessary. Bad timing could happen to anyone - my rant was directed at the rude/lazy, not the unlucky.

I got an email (sent late Friday night, received Saturday afternoon) and responded straight away saying I would be happy to trade, providing my address. a few days later a got a response saying that the person had already traded.
I would ok with this if I had proposed th etrade but as the other person had and then retracted I felt aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!

I guess what I don't really understand is why people would bother in the first place if they aren't interested in taking advantage of what the site has to offer.
I fully understand that sometimes things come up that would prevent someone from responding in a timely manner - it could happen to anyone. But is it really that much of a hardship to send an email saying 'Sorry, I've been getting married/in a coma/held hostage by Pygmies...' when you finally do get the time? At the risk of sounding any more like my parents than I already do, doesn't anyone have any manners any more?
(A perfect exception that proves the rule - yesterday I received a lovely email from someone apologizing for not letting me know that they had received a card I'd sent them because they'd been away on vacation in a tech-unfriendly country. How refreshingly thoughtful.)
Bottom line - if you can't be bothered to actually trade , then stop wasting your own time and everyone else's and take your profile down.

I totally agree with the comments above, it's so annoying waiting around and never getting a response, when you could have arranged a trade with someone else if the first person let you know.
FYI - You can leave feedback on people on PCT, so I think I'll start putting a negative comment on those who do not respond. At least if we all do this we will be able to tell who we shouldn't waste the time on...

It's also nice to be told no straight out rather than being told... Oh I'm in negotiation with other people but I might want you and then 10 days later to be told - I went with the other people.
If your in a discussion with someone else say so and thats fine but dont say I'm waiting to see what else I can get offered!
