[PUZZLE] Puzzle - panicht [SOLVED]

This might not seem like a puzzle as you might think of one, but in context it is most certainly a puzzle, and it needs to be solved. What I'm hoping we can put together is a concept for your attempts, methods, and procedures. You can have the perfect concept and method, but if you miss the procedure by a hair it doesnt work out right, so lets scratch each others brains, as well as our own.

Clue in the source: If you wish to pass beyond this door, make Three and Three the cube of 4.

There are SO many ways this can be taken it is unbelievable, but I think that was the point. Never read the entire thing and think it means what it says, we got fooled with wordplay once before. It was staring us in the face and we glossed right over it. Dont assume "Three and Three" mean the actual numbers, although they might.

Things I have tried:

- Used Three and Three to make 33 and subtracted it from 64 (cube of 4) to make 31.

- Tried using cube of 4 into 64 to create a base conversion. So many ways that could be worked out I'm sure I didnt hit each one.

- Searched Google and came up with tons o stuff about Rubiks cube, plus some puzzle about "happy cube" but didnt see any type of correlation.

- Tried looking at logarithms.

- Tried looking for wordplay, that can drive you nuts.

There are many more and I will add them as I think of them.

yeah, i'm not quite sure how to go about this yet either. and once we solve this, have we even figured out what to do with the answer once we find it? an answer is pretty pointless if we have nothing to use it for ...

okay, just gonna toss out a totally random idea that just popped into my brain -

what if, by "the cube of four", he doesn't mean 64, but instead it has something to do with those four squares we found on the despairidox page. not quite sure how three and three would relate to those four images in any way, but just tossin' out ideas here

my other idea was, since this game is kinda centered around cubes, maybe we should try something like using (3+1) 3 to make the cube of 4, and get an answer from that somehow

haven't really been thinkin' about this too much, since i've been pretty occupied with my snowboarding trip, but when i get back sunday night i'll come and look at this stuff with a (hopefully) fresh mindset

Another thing to keep in mind: "qu13e" can be read as "cube".

OK, we've discussed wordplay before when finding Oboenai's e-mail. I think we might have been given a clue here, maybe. It's just a matter of how it gets interpreted and how it fits. There are no wrong thoughts, so please dont hesitate to post yours with reasonings behind it.

jan the labfly,

First, to you and your friends, do not feel so much frustration. Qu13E is-and-was meant to be puzzles-within-puzzles-within-puzzles.

How else to keep splinternails safely away?

My advice? Meaningless, perhaps. Where are you now?

[Q9t]

I highlighted the line I felt like might have been a clue. I could be completely wrong, but until we figure it out I'm looking in all directions.

"The answer is there, in between the echoes"

hmmm? does that do anything for anybody?

i keep looking at our page and wondering about why the change
in the words "LOST AND FOUND" and then "OUT OF ORDER"

The only thing I can think of for "between the echoes" is Three and Three, which would mean Three is echoed and between them is "and". As for the words "Three" being capitalized, maybe it was just to try and make it more apparent since we have been given NO direction whatsoever on this puzzle.

Just my thoughts on it so far.

PS- Even IF the word "and" is what we are looking for, we still dont know what to do with it, so yay us. Rolling Eyes

Could we say that the tick and tock images are sort of echoes of one another as well? They are, for the most part, the same picture, just with different text. Are they stegged?

hmm...

random thought

lost and found denotes a place where lost things are kept

however

out of order is more of an informative statement

they may seem like obvious statements but then again you never know what line of thinking will give you results.

I think you might be onto something here. I'm thinking more along these lines myself now. I had a suspicion it was wordplay, but couldnt figure out what you have. Nice work, lets hope this was the key to it.

its probably nothing but just think of each letter as if it were made using toothpicks.

okay, just got back, and i kinda liked glecius' idea of "and" being between the echos of the word three, but like he said, still don't know what to do with the answer, so maybe we should think a little about that too ...

i noticed this - "lost and found" and "out of order" - both three words long ... three and three? Confused

and i did check both images with xsteg, and it said neither was stegged ... although i haven't gotten around to fiddlin' with the ones that supposedly are ... so maybe we'll find some clues there

Accidentally choose this thread, but the puzzle intrigued me.

LOST AND FOUND = 12 letters

OUT OF ORDER = 10 letters

12 x 10 = 120, no good.

But, take out the repeats in each line...

LOSTANDFU = 9 letters

OUTFRDE = 7 letters

9 x 7 = 63.

The cube of 4 is 64

So to make Three and Three the cube of four you need to add a letter. Or.. to make Three and Three the cube of four you need to add one.

Perhaps that helps?

Obes.
