Thus far I haven't seen anyone mention the red markings on the piece of paper that Mr. Pearson wrote on that is on the homepage of http://www.findaraya.com
Why is this? I am not sure if they are pointing to something or if they are just there.....they sort of confuse me.

Yeah...I have no idea if they are pointing to anything...but you'd think they must be, there's no reason for them to be there, three of them especially!

yeah, thats what I am saying....but....I dont see why they are there at all, not pointing to anything, not crossing anything out, they are pointless from what I can tell. All well, maybe we will find something soon if they have to do with anything.
I was just lookinf at it while i was typing this and it looks as though the first red line is stiking through a very faint character, looks like an F to me...maybe I am just going crazy

Has anyone pulled the password out of the binary clue yet?
I think we should focus on that for the time being.
I've been rummaging through google finds for Berendt and listening out for him/her/it and have come up short as to anything that lead to a password.
Closest I've come to a lead may be :
John Berendt - author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

lol, thats exactly what i came up with but didnt see anything relating to this about it....I think we need another piece of the clue from James Pearson.
I opened darkerbg.jpg in photoshop and have decided that the image at the bottom, the one of the wires is the something telephone.....interface? All well...I dont think it relates to anything either, I am just bored....I am still trying to come up with stuff on listen out for Berendt. I cant find anything either....

ya know, there is a phone number or something for someone named Mike in darkerbg.
Maybe Mikes last name is berendt or something.....maybe "listen out for berendt" means that Mike will call one of us or something? Maybe we are waiting for them to ask for our phone numbers? I mean, what could 02075454?3? mean?

I don't think Mike has anything to do with this particular puzzle. His name has been up there from the beginning. But that's not to say he won't show up someday.
I tried simply emailing Pearson the decoded binary and hopefully by tommorrow we'll see if anything comes from that.
EDITTED TO ADD: Of course if that IS all it takes to get the new password for the PDA then I'll be a little sad as to how easy it was.

if we truly need to "listen out for Berendt", it could be something musical, maybe something from here

Hmm...as for the piece of paper with the three red strokes through it...it does look like something else is written there...like maybe it was smudged out or transfered through...or not...
Yeah...is Berendt a last name? I think so. It's strange that it's mildly similar to Benedict. I wonder if there is any relation? How are we supposed to "listen out for" this person anyway???

Tried:
His name - negative
The Jazz Book - negative
02042000 - negative
feb042000 - negative
sudwestfunk - - negative
berendt the jazz book - negative
It is good to know however that the password for the PDA won't be case sensitive considering you can't use caps.
Also the first password wsa five characters. Should we try to stick close to that many for future passwords or wait until we a get more to decide on that?

I was starting to think maybe it was an anagram or something after Whalewashingdolphin said that it seemed somewhat similar to Benedict, so I tried it at wordsmith with these results:
Quote:
BED RENT
BED TERN
BEND RET
BRED TEN
BRED NET
BE TREND
BE DR TEN
BE DR NET
BEN TRED
BERN TED
BRENT DE
BENT RED
REB TEND
REB DENT
BERT END
BERT DEN
BERT NED
BET REND
BET NERD
BET DR NE
I dont think any of this is relevant......i think i will try lisnten out for berendt in the anagram thing as well...
Yeaaaahhh, listen out for berendt is definitely not an anagram.....it would take wayyy too long for us to look through it and find the right one if it were an anagram...and if you think it is, then look at these:
http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=listen+out+for+berendt

You can listen to an excerpt from the book "City Of Falling Angels" by John Berendt and read by John Berendt here

Joachim-Ernst Berendt (the guy from the link above) helped in the founding of Südwestfunk, one of Germany's big Radio and Television networks.
It can still be heard on shortwave radio up to 41 meters on frequency 7265.
Of course none of that information really helps, because all numbers mean nothing to the PDA.

YES! I agree, we should have our own IRC Channel.
