Is Mr Gamer .. y'know.. real?

Ok.. I may get trouted on this.. I didnt find anything on Search, but I may have missed it..

While looking at the wikipedia entry on Alternate Reality Games I found this link to a Mr Gamer.

The website is vaguely eerie, I must say - and VERY intruiging. According to the wikipedia entry on him

Quote:
Mr Gamer purports to be a multinational company organising alternate reality games for wealthy clients, exactly as in The Game.

Now the word purports interests me... wikipedia has noone who can confirm the reality of this guy? Is this for real?

Part of me hopes it is.. if I had the financial means, it be something I'd defiantly try. Personalized ARGs? An individually tailored experience? Extreme Immersion?

However, another part of me thinks this must be a joke. It can't be real.. can it? I mean.. a 'multinational corporation'.. that we've never heard of? We're ARGers!

Is the site, in and of itself, an ARG? I don't think so but I'd thought I'd mention it. It;d be kinda.. Majestic-like.. with Anim-X developing Majestic.. which was the game.. withing the game.. and.. the developer for both was.. Anim-X.. and.. yeah.. Oh hell, those of you who played it know what I mean!

So I figured I'd ask the community here... do we know anything? Have any of you heard any more about this company? Is this a hoax or not? If its not...*grins*... how much does it cost? If it IS real... and this company is everything it claims to be, wouldn't it be great to get someone from Mr Gamer for an interview on ARGN?

If any group can figure out what the deal is with this guy.. its us. We have the tools and the know-how honed by many an ARG.

I think I'll go run a Whois...

Well, I shot an email over to them just to see what I get in reply, so I guess we'll see soon?

Hello, I am interested in your services, and just wanted to inquire about them.

1) How far do you go to ensure that the player receives the best game possible?
2) What parameters do you cover in your games?
3)How much does this cost?

I would very much appreciate this information.

Thank you,
Ashley Renshaw

I've been looking around, though, and can't find anything about the company besides on the site, wikipedia, and answers.com, which says this(the information, however, doesn't coincide with the website.):

Quote:
Mr Gamer is a company organising alternate reality games for wealthy clients. The business was probably inspired by The Game.

The company was established in 1998 in Brussels and later established branches in Nice, Bangkok, Moscow and the United States. As of 2004, it employs about 350 people and organises 6-10 games each month.

Other than that, I'm not seeing much of anything.

I hope that helps.

Not sure about all of this... but I did find this:

On the "Club Games" page, in the source code...

Quote:

Just thought I'd through that out there.

Well, beyond an email address to reach someone at mistergamer, the rest of that is utterly standard webpage stuff that shows up when you have flash on a page.

Going by the whois and the fact that the website has been up since 2002 and the current flash version was up in 2003.. so this has been going on for more than three years... I say Legit.

I would if I even remotely thought I could AFFORD it. From the sound of the whole "wealthy clinets" thing, I doubt I'll be ableto even after I get my $50,000 a year job.

I got a e-mail back from Mr. gamer.

Hello,

Usually we need 6 weeks to create and prepare the game. Also, to make a game we need more information (as more detailed as possible) about yourself and about the person who is going to play with you as a first step , and we may ask you about meeting in person then.
We create a story based on your nature, personal qualities, preferences and dreams. The price depends on scale of the game, its duration (usually 5-14 days), geography (all over the world) and starts from 50000 euro.

Yours sincerely,

It would be a good idea for a gift for someone like Steve or jamesi. Maybe we should start a fund for something like that?

Okay, I'm kidding.

I got a reply, as well, pretty much stating the same thing:
Quote:
Hello, Ashley,

Thank you for your letter.
Before we start a game we discuss it with customer. To create a game we need information (as more detailed as possible) about person who is going to play it. We provide some "tests" which let us understand his/her nature, personal qualities, preferences and dreams. And we create a story beased on that information. The price depends on scale of the game, its duration (usually 5-14 days), geography (all over the world) and starts from 50000 euro.
Would you specify a point of your interest and introduce yourself, please ?
That will let us give you more detailed information.

Yours sincerely,

I'm bothered by this. This is a multinational company... and they don't use spellcheck? Is something afoot here?
