One other thing - the Aphex Twin track Windowlicker famously has a hidden image of a 'demon face' in it, that can only be viewed through a Spectrogram program (there's a good description here).

Could there be something similar embedded in The Silver City? If I can find some software, I'll give it a shot...

That is really cool, I didn't know that was possible... Very Happy

The Spectrogram program referred to in that link is here, if you're interested in giving The Silver City a peek.

dont want to be accused of n00b bashing but the above has ALL been mentioned, please read through the thread.

morse code was something like "3P. Secure email system discovered"

and the message says send someone to gillit road.

I think the french says "Ecoutez, ne maquez pas. Atendez" which means "Listen, dont miss (this), wait" so all in all pretty damn helpful.

If you read Kurt's update in his weblog, you'll see that it's not happened yet.

Hmm. I've been playing around quite a bit with that Spectrograph software, and I haven't found anything of interest so far...

It's pretty tough, though. This being very rhythmic music, there are obvious patterns, but it's impossible to know whether I should make anything of them. And because I'm looking for clues it's a bit like trying to see castles in the clouds...I can't help but feel that if there was some kind of clue in the spectrographs, it'd stand out a bit more.

I'll keep thinking about it. I'm sure there's more to this album than meets the, er...ear.

But then maybe that's just the sonic cognitive therapy doing its work. Very Happy

Just a thought on the spectogram. Is it possible that the Windows Media Player visualistation tool might throw something out? Feel free to shoot me if I'm talking rubbish, but MC might of used this because its accessible to all, (Well everyone using Windows. Alright Skenmy?) and people might come upon something by chance as it were. Smile

As the visualisation is random - it would be very hard to engineer it to give a clue.

Plus, it isnt available to everyone Smile

I received a (mass-email?) response from Helix Hesh re: the hidden track:

Quote:
Hi. Thanks for writing.

You and many other people from Earth have written to me about a "hidden message" on The Silver City. I don't know what you could possibly be talking about - there is no message of any sort on the album. I've listened to it again a number of times, and I've even spoken to Viard, who agrees - no message. I would pass your query on to the sound engineer who worked with Viard, but he is no longer with Hesh Records.

I'm afraid I can't explain whatever it is you think you've found, but I'd appreciate it if you could stop bothering me personally with it.

~Helix~

I've already sent back a quick email requesting the identity of the engineer.

The way I see it, either Hesh is lying or he isn't.

If he is, it's probably to protect the identity of the person who recorded the message. Which is fair enough, and I doubt he'll tell any of us much more straight out. Perhaps if we could get Tippy to do some snooping, we might learn more, but I'm not aware of any way of contacting her at the moment (unless we did it through Kurt?)

But what if Hesh isn't lying?
All the CDs sent out must have been recorded on earth. As far as I know, there's no way of transporting matter between our worlds.
So isn't it possible that the message is only on the 'earth edition' of the album?

Because that could mean it was added by someone at Mind Candy.
And that could have some pretty big implications.

Failing that, seeing as it was Kurt who asked to get the info, we could let him know the response and see if he has a way to persuade him. The other point from this email, is that he spoke with Viard.. someone who is enigmatic and doesn't usually answer his messages. Perhaps we could contact Viard through him?

Not that much of a difference. She even said she had emailed to find out the engineer's name.
Oh, and Patrick, there quite obviously IS a way to transport matter one way at least! The Receda Cube is here after all...

If they can transfer data here so I think its safe to assume they could send tracks as an mp3 with a high enough quality to publish as an audio cd....
