[SOLVED][CACHES FOUND] repairshops.gif

So Seth's gotten something from Raidar regarding the "repair shops" on the ground. So that's cool. But there's a slight problem. Looking and what he got, we see this: repairshops.gif.

What is it? There's probably a puzzle in there. Let's get this puppy solved.

Well, for soem reason I keep thinking I see numbers popping out of the movement of the static almost liek a magic eye... its probably my
imagination.

I opened the gif as with notepad, but there doesnt seem to be anything there, at least not in the first or last lines where stuff is usually hidden.

I'm working on destegging right now using "Daddy Promise" and "DaddyPromise" as passwords. Camoflage gave a nogo, Im gonna try jphide (as that was used before) now.

Dio, I see something too, although I have a headache. STILL

I opened it up in my handy-dandy animation-maker program, and while it does have 7 frames, they all look essentially similar to me. Nothing pops out immediately. When I get some more time I'll take a closer look at it.

Tried de-stegging using GifShuffle and password "Daddy Promise" and "DaddyPromise".
Edit: Sorry for not seeing Dio's earlier post.
GifShuffle was a no go.

I did the same, it is made of 7 frames each having a duration of 0.1 second.

They all look fairly similar, and i had a go at overlaying them to see if some kind of magical picture shone through, but all I got was this (attached)

Each frame looks fairly nondescript, I haven't been able to make much out of any of them.

[humor]

Maybe we have to connect the dots.

i'm fairly certain that the file is an animated stereogram. but since i've never been able to see those things, i don't think i'll be much help here.

i received an email from Seth, not sure if it'll help though. maybe telling us to stare at it some more? Laughing

gb,

Great solves on those last two puzzles. It appears that we have reached the end of the trail. I've looked for another file on Raidar called repairshops and the static file is the only one. There must be more to it than just static. Have you made any progress yet? I've been staring at it for hours and all I've managed to get from it is a headache.

Seth

I'm begining to think it may NOT be a stereogram. But then what else could it be? It'd be nifty if there was like an actual image that the white noise was overlayed upon, but since its such a simple .gif, I dont think its that.

If someone with the appropriate equipment could post each of those 7(?) frames of the gif seperatly or as a ZIP, itd be appreciated. I dont have the software to pull it apart and would liek to look at each individual image.

EDIT: IDEA! What if it ISNT one stereogram, but several? What if each frame of the .gif.. each individual piece of static.. is its own seperate and unique stereogram?! I can neither see stereograms nor, like I said, do I have the software to pull the gif apart so someone get on this!

Hope this helps. I've tried looking at them separately, but I personally have had no luck. Maybe someone else?

Tried to get the individual images to "pop" as 3D stereograms with no success. Had the little woman try as well as she usually sees them easily. Also a no go.
Also tried tiling them into various larger pics by putting them in different 3x2/2x3 configurations. No success, there, either (Low likelihood with 7 images, anyway)

I have seen many images inside the static (individual frames), including, but not limited to: faces, eyes (lots of them) a fishhook, and animals. I will be posting a photobucket link here so that you can see everything. The Photobucket!!!

I'm convinced it has to be steg and tried all the tools I could figure out how to use at http://www.stegoarchive.com/.
Now I gotta get all the crapware off my machine. On the graphical side, there are a lot of "almosts" in the frames if you play around with the highlight, midrange and shadow values, but nothing that equates to text or images with any certainty. Tried shrinking images both vertically and horizontally also.

looks like it's not a stereogram afterall:

Subject : The static

gb,

Are you sure it's a stereogram? I don't see any images that pop out and I can always see them quite easily. I even tried looking at each frame seperately and don't see any images. I doubt it's a stereogram anyway. Steven can't see those things. I gave him a book of them for Christmas last year; a week later I saw he'd put it up for sale on ebay. I never told him I knew what he'd done but I used to tease him by asking him if he was still enjoying the book. Every once in a while I'd ask him if he got to the page with the schooner on it yet. I don't think he ever got the joke.

I've noticed a few other things about the static. There are seven seperate images that cycle through in order. Obviously, real television static doesn't have a distinct pattern like that. Also, isn't real static just black and white? I never really looked that closely at it to know for sure. Maybe that means something?

Seth

Another approach is obviously necessary. One possibility is using a graphics program to overlay the seven images in some manner, just like tom_in_bristol did.

The only problem: there's like 4000000 ways to do that - layer order, variable opacity, and overlay method can all be varied. I've tried a number of different ways in the GIMP, but have by no means exhausted the possibilities.

Just for fun, here are two of my results, in which each layer is twice as translucent as the one below it. The former is with image 7 on top (and thus the clearest), and the latter is with image 1 on top. As you can see, nothing really shows through.
