Yeah, I don't imagine they'd be happy about that - might get messy. Wink

And that's a hell of a long string... probably have to go through several iterations of various decode methods to get at what's in there. If you want any assistance I can take a crack at it, but I'm not the go-to guy for codes.

I'm not really good with codes Crying or Very sad , but I'm looking into details about Peter Reith (interesting scandals, I have to say), just in case there's something in his life that would be the key (like Telecard).

The email subject is interesting.

"P5 - L1 - S1"

Key text, maybe?

Paragraph 5, Line 1, Sentence 1?

That just popped into mind because I used to play a game that required to find a certain word in the manual for you to be able to play every time you opened the game, and it used that sequence.

Heeeeey! Good idea! It may be something like that!

EDIT: If we're using the Wikipedia entry to be the place to search for the Fifth Paragraph, First Line, First Sentence...then the key would be: In 2000 Howard shifted Reith to the Defence portfolio. Using that you do get something that isn't too chaotic looking...but I don't know much about this stuff so it's probably nothing.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
2ND EDIT: Okay...so this only makes some sense, but if you Vignere with "In 2000 Howard shifted Reith to the Defence portfolio" you get something. Take that and Base64 it, then Hex it, then Octal it, then Base64 again and you get something that makes some sense:

Quote:
Cyhf gra.

Two hundred and fifty.

Simply look underneath what you see to find that which you seek.

Bid a farewell to borders which guided you here. They are no longer of use to you.

I'm not sure why the beginning is messed up, but I've probably done something wrong along the way Laughing . (The Cyhf gra looks a little-bit like Welsh, but it's probably not.)

Ooh, well done. And for completeness:

Sorry, guys, that was me. Just got that in an email, but got rushed off a school computer and had to post it before I lost it, because my email's being weird.

It came from "don_andrews@arcticmail.com"

So I suppose we should get to work on our new clue.

Hmmm...okay so I don't really have anything yet...but I do have something mildly strange that probably isn't anything important. When I took the new string of numbers and letters and ran it through Vigenere (YES, spelt it RIGHT finally!!!) with the key being:
Quote:
He was criticised in 2000 for letting his family and their friends use a telephone account which was provided to him for Government business.
(I used this as the key because it's directly below what was used as the previous key, and the last clue translated to something about looking below what you see). Anyways, then I Base64'd it to see what I'd get...and it came back with gibberish, except for the bottom part which comes out as:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
</textarea><br><br>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>
<table width="90%" border=0 cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center" bgcolor="#005500" bordercolor="#003300">
<tr>
<td>
<hr width=50% color="#003300"><hr width=50% color="#003300"> <div align="center">© 2002 by MAKCoder</div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br><div align="center"><a href="http://sourceforge.net">SourceForge Logo</a>
<a href="http://makcoder.sourceforge.net">MAKCoder Logo</a></div>
</body>
</html>
Now, it's probably nothing, but just thought I should share what I've been doing. Very Happy

Honest to god, don't ask me what I did...but I just got something...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Add forty to that which you have received, and watch the truth be revealed.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There was a lot of Base64'ing and using octals and binaries

Just in case anyone wanted an explanation (although I'm sure everyone's figured it out) as to how to deal with the string of numbers and letters starting with BIYXIk1LT...this is how:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Take the long string of numbers and letters and Vigenere it, with the key being: In 2000 Howard shifted Reith to the Defence portfolio. Take the result and Base64 it, and you'll end up with something with a lot of Ms. Base64 that, and you'll end up with a sequence of numbers. Run those numbers through an octal decrypter, and you'll end up with a shorter string of numbers and letters. Base64 it three times until you end up with another sequence of numbers. Run those numbers through a binary decrypter, and you'll end up with a shorter string of numbers and letters. Base64 it, and you'll end up with the result I got.
