I agree - no particular reason for it to be Saturn. The typical red planet would be Mars, but it just so happened that Saturn snuck into view on the night the cube went walkabout. With the moon marked in white and the stars in yellow, the planets ought to be any other colour, so I didn't want to read too much into the red thing!

Take a look at the back of any of the red or orange cards - there's an SMS hintline you can use to ask Von for a clue.

Having checked this in Stellarium (free download) the most likely date/time appears to be February 22nd 1978 at around 2.30am GMT (or 9.30pm on the 21st local time).

Given the location of Ursa Major and Polaris in the sky, it has to be around late February/early March, so having set the correct location and approximate date I just clicked through the years looking for any where there was a bright orange-red coloured planet (Mars, Jupiter or Saturn) in or around Cancer/Gemini.

I then clicked through the days of the month, then the time until the Moon was in the right place in Leo.

I don't see any immediate significance for this date, but who knows? Also, I'm a little concerned by the phase of the Moon - that waxing gibbous doesn't look big enough to me. Lastly, I only looked a few decades either way but I did come up with the following alternatives:
1. Approx 2.30am GMT 13/2/2006 - Saturn in Cancer, but it looks too close to Leo to me.
2. Approx 2.30am GMT 23/2/2005 - Saturn is much closer to the correct location but would the red dot really represent Saturn?
3. Approx 2.30am GMT 5/3/2004 - Saturn in Gemini and looks a bit too far back along it's precession to me.
4. Approx 2.00am GMT 11/3/1979 - Jupiter between Cancer and Gemini, but Saturn is right next to Leo and I'd expect that to be on the card image too.
5. Approx 2.30am GMT 27/2/2010 - Mars in about the right place but the Moon isn't quite.
6. Approx 3.00am GMT 12/2/2025 - Mars and the Moon are in about the right place - similar to 22/2/1979.

I haven't bothered measuring angles accurately, I've just done it by sight, so I'd say these values are accurate to ± 60 minutes at best. The dates should be right though - hope one of them means something to someone.
