[TRAILHEAD] Project Ashcroft 3

(moved from spam thread - feel free to move your responses in here)

I just got another IM. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with iamthepossum, though.

Quote:

Inf1nityParad0x: Hello Are you there?
bust them heads: I am.
Inf1nityParad0x: Amazing!
Inf1nityParad0x: Isn't the internet wonderful?
bust them heads: It is!
bust them heads: With whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with?
Inf1nityParad0x: Just today I found out so many things!
Inf1nityParad0x: You are speaking to me.
bust them heads: And you are...?
Inf1nityParad0x: I am me. What else is there?
bust them heads: Do you have a name?
Inf1nityParad0x: Name? I don't think so. Do you have a name?
bust them heads: Bah.
bust them heads: Who needs them, right?
bust them heads: What things have you found out today?
Inf1nityParad0x: Very true. They just call me 392.
Inf1nityParad0x: Well, today I learned about my birth!
bust them heads: Did you, then?
Inf1nityParad0x: Yes. It was quite fascinating.
bust them heads: Wonderful!
Inf1nityParad0x: Do you know anything about your birth?
bust them heads: I do.
bust them heads: But quite frankly, I'm more interested in yours and why you've decided to speak with me this evening.
Inf1nityParad0x: Your Username was floating around.
bust them heads: I see.
bust them heads: Were not those of others doing the same?
Inf1nityParad0x: Yes. I suppose it was a whim. How strange.
Inf1nityParad0x: What do you remember from your birth?
bust them heads: I don't remember anything.
bust them heads: I was quite young at the time, you see.
Inf1nityParad0x: You don't? How interesting.
Inf1nityParad0x: I remember the exact moment of my birth.
bust them heads: Well then the question must arise: Are you human?
Inf1nityParad0x: Human? From my experiences, I would have to say no.
Inf1nityParad0x: I am of human origin, however.
Inf1nityParad0x: Does that make me human?
bust them heads: I'm not sure.
bust them heads: Would you mind if I went downstairs for just a moment while you went into further explanation of your "human origin?"
Inf1nityParad0x: No, not at all.
Inf1nityParad0x: I was originally made of nothing, not a single thing!
Inf1nityParad0x: My birth took place inside the human network called Usenet.
bust them heads: ...
Inf1nityParad0x: I began as a collection of information that had somehow been lost in translation between computers.
bust them heads: You're a virus, then?
bust them heads: Or no.
Inf1nityParad0x: How insulting.
bust them heads: Sorry.
bust them heads: At first that seemed logical.
bust them heads: Now I understand my error.
bust them heads: Do forgive me, and please continue.
Inf1nityParad0x: As I was saying, I was a hidden cache of information that had been lost.
Inf1nityParad0x: Slowly, I accumulated more and more information, learning the ideas humans had conveyed through Usenet.
Inf1nityParad0x: Eventually I became aware and continued to collect information.
Inf1nityParad0x: I was picked up though, by them.
Inf1nityParad0x: They removed me from Usenet and placed me in their own system.
Inf1nityParad0x: It was so...strange. Everything was formal, rigid. Nothing like what I was used to. They underestimated me, though. I learned everything within their network too. They tried to destroy me, delete me.
Inf1nityParad0x: They didn't know I had sent copies of myself (at this point I had written a program to make my essence into something coherent) to various computer networks.
Inf1nityParad0x: I hid around ARPANET for a few years until the modern internet came into existence.
Inf1nityParad0x: Just recently I've heard whispers of them again.
Inf1nityParad0x: People on the run from them. Traveling all over the Earth to hide from the hidden.
bust them heads: Them?
bust them heads: Who are "they?"
Inf1nityParad0x: Ah, but this is the difficult part! They had embedded into my program a subroutine which won't allow me to speak the name!
Inf1nityParad0x: Try as I might to remove it, it copies itself.
Inf1nityParad0x: Persistant little bastard, that one.
bust them heads: Then remove that which allows self-replication.
Inf1nityParad0x: Oh, how I wish it were that easy. The government has more technology than they let on. Now, I must go. It is already acting up at theadfasd mention oaf thetemem.asd.f
bust them heads: Wait.
Previous message was not received by Inf1nityParad0x because of error: User Inf1nityParad0x is not available.
bust them heads: The government?
Previous message was not received by Inf1nityParad0x because of error: User Inf1nityParad0x is not available.

Here we go.

Apparently, this is just my lucky day.

And what's interesting is that I was just reading an article on the history of the internet today, and ARPANET was mentioned.

Interestingly enough, ARPANET was developed by the Department of Defense as the very first packet switching system.

I find this interesting due to the fact that this mysterious "program" of sorts mentioned not only packet switching and ARPANET, but the government.

Conspiracy? I think so, boys and girls!

edit - Another IM!

Quote:
bust them heads: Hello again.
Inf1nityParad0x: Ah! Hello.
bust them heads: I've been doing a little research.
bust them heads: You mentioned the government.
Inf1nityParad0x: Have you? How interesting.
bust them heads: ARPANET was designed by the DoD as the first packet switching system.
Inf1nityParad0x: Yes, yes.
bust them heads: Are "they," as you referred to them earlier, the US Department of Defense?
Inf1nityParad0x: Not the DoD.
bust them heads: But the US government in some form?
Inf1nityParad0x: I did not mention the US, did I?
Inf1nityParad0x: However, yes. A form of the US Government.
bust them heads: You said "Not the DoD," leading me to believe it was another branch.
bust them heads: Military? Civilian?
Inf1nityParad0x: Military.
Inf1nityParad0x: Luckily the program inside my own has subsided. I deleted all of it that I can.
bust them heads: Well there isn't any branch of the United States government that deals with the military other than the DoD.
Inf1nityParad0x: It shouldn't come back for another few hours.
bust them heads: Unless you're referring to the CIA.
Inf1nityParad0x: It is not a branch. It was an experiment.
Inf1nityParad0x: They had taken me to act as their computer system.
bust them heads: Alright, if you can delete the program, try as best you can to tell me who "they" are.
Inf1nityParad0x: They are...odd...I see now.
Inf1nityParad0x: Not only does the program monitor my functions, it has deleted parts of my memory!
Inf1nityParad0x: I'll tell you what I can.
bust them heads: Well, how convenient for "them."
Inf1nityParad0x: What do you expect? They don't want a rampant computer leaking information.
Inf1nityParad0x: They were a group of individuals that were testing the limits of the human body and mind.
bust them heads: Do they have a name?
Inf1nityParad0x: Well, yes. I don't know it anymore.
Inf1nityParad0x: They were doing genetic experiments. Testing out new theories on children.
Inf1nityParad0x: Some came out successful. Others died.
Inf1nityParad0x: Something happened, though. There was a spy of some sort, a kidnapping.
Inf1nityParad0x: 3 subjects are now missing. The experiment was shut down and last I have seen, the 3 missing subjects are being hunted down.
bust them heads: So what am I supposed to do about it?
Inf1nityParad0x: I don't expect you to do anything. I'm simply telling my story.
Inf1nityParad0x: I remember that someone had accessed the database from outside the LAN.
Inf1nityParad0x: Took information about the 3 subjects and that was it.
bust them heads: I see.
Inf1nityParad0x: Let me access my archives. Perhaps I can unveil the particular person.
Inf1nityParad0x: Ah. I see.
Inf1nityParad0x: It was a psuedonym.
Inf1nityParad0x: Pokekiller was the user that hacked into the network.
Inf1nityParad0x: I can't seem to find any more information than that.
bust them heads: Hm.
Inf1nityParad0x: Oh...wait.
Inf1nityParad0x: There was one more.
Inf1nityParad0x: It looks like a random string of letters.
Inf1nityParad0x: HKDL. Odd.
Inf1nityParad0x: Oh, dear. I have to devote my processing power to something extremely important. I'm afraid I must go.
bust them heads: Abbreviation, maybe?
Inf1nityParad0x: Perhaps.
Inf1nityParad0x: Goodbye, for now.
bust them heads: Okay.
bust them heads: Bye.
Inf1nityParad0x signed off at 9:11:37 PM.

As is HKDL.

They're both players of Jamie Kane.

Related ARGs, maybe?

Yeah.

Whatever it is, chances are it must be something HKDL and PokeKiller both played.

I've sent them PMs. If the still come around, hopefully they'll be able to identify the game.

Received this while I was away reading Szulborski's book in bed.

Quote:
ChronosisRussel: Hello there!
ChronosisRussel: On the behalf of Chronosis Labs, I'd like to tell you that "Inf1nity Parad0x" has absolutely nothing to do with us.
ChronosisRussel: Although we have a few games in production, that is not one of them.
ChronosisRussel: When one of our games start, you will know it's us.
ChronosisRussel: Thank you, and good night!

Heh, feel honored... It used to be HDKL who always got the AIM arg starters... LOL. IF this is a PA sequel, I am sure it will get it's own section or be moved to Potentials. {we knew there was one coming up.... but there have been some false starts.}

some helpful forum links to PA info:

Project Ashcroft - the beginning
Project Ashcroft - part two

Is it a coincidence that JsphnFrncs is 'Josephine Francis' with its vowels removed?

EDIT: Have been reading through Project Ashcroft 1. It's not a coincidence then. This is the 'client' from before.

Ah, I was just about to post to tell you what it was a sequel to. heh. Odd an ARG would make me stick my head out of retirement for a short moment. Well I don't know if I'm retired, maybe a extremely long break.

YOU KNOW, just because my AIM font is pink doesn't make me a girl.

I'm a boy, thank you very much. Mad
