Alright, this looks interesting. I'm in, for the short term at least.

OOG theory, relating to the why behind this ARG:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I believe this might be related to The Visiting. My reasons:
  • WIBS: Crop circles (everywhere), UFOs (on debukette), and and much supernatural stuff
  • The Visiting: Sci-fi movie involving an alien epidemic
  • WIBS: first post on debunkette is Aug 12
  • The Visiting: Current US release date is Aug 11
  • WIBS: Significant character named Tucker Darby
  • The Visiting: Significant character named Tucker <something>
I tried to find out what Tucker in The Visiting's last name is, but that's a hard thing to google for.

That last one is almost a little TOO close to be intentional. Sorta like I Love Bees -> I ♥ Huckabees

edit: got the Tuckers' names mixed up

Wow that is a coincedince. It seemed like an ARG more than a viral to me though.

Could still be an ARG, just an ARG more closely tied to the plot.

However, it seems a bit early to be related: a 7-month ARG? I don't think so. How long did The Beast run?

Then, of course, Tucker is a popular name for characters...as in Last Call Poker or even Red vs. Blue.

on the debunkette page there is a an entry on Crop Circles:

http://www.debunkette.com/2005/08/crop_circles_crock.html#more

and within that entry there is a picture used that is attributed to qr5.org with a link:

http://www.qr5.org/

this is a BAND...wassup with that?

the earliest article on the site refers to two researchers...I'm going to go from there.

Looking up the whois for the site shows that it was registered way before the other two sites and by someone completely different.

A source of clipart. qr5.org is OOG as far as I can tell (DNS records don't match WIBS.com and debunkette.com).

Yeah... QR5 seems pretty OOG to me, and how would they make a connection between a site about crop circles (OOG) to some clipart site?

wikapedia entry

I haven't seen this suggested anywhere else...from the wikipedia entry:

Nonetheless, the site may also be a wonderful model, an example of what might perhaps come to be known as a blog novel. Written with ongoing discussion and interaction between author(s) and audience, it does indeed bear sembalance to RPGs like Myst. In this early stage all one can do is join in the fun and follow as breadcrumbs are dropped along the path.

Maybe they just wanted to let people know about a favorite band!

Btw, just so everyone knows...

I have been asked by Tucker to be a moderator on the BS boards. Basically I'm doing over there what I've been doing over here on several other games. I am not ingame, nor am I privy to any behind-the-scenes secrets, and I don't expect to be, so you don't have to worry about whether or not I'm keeping secrets from you, cuz I'm not. All I'm doing is keeping the boards clean.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know. I do not want there to be any confusion as to what my role is. I'm just a player who got conned into be a forum moderator. Very Happy

But if you do get pulled behind, you'll tell us what you find out, right? Laughing
