[UPDATE] QUIRKY ACUITY 18 Jan 06 Cymbalisty
Category: me
Time: 06:35 PM
It's been a weird few days in the office. Cymbalisty was found dead in his home on Saturday - I guess you know that from the Sentinel. I found out on Sunday when my dad called me at home. There were official call-rounds to all the library staff later in the day, but my dad called me first. It's hard to take in, really. I can't say I'm going to miss him because I'm not - but I guess that was the whole problem. It's hard to think that someone was so lonely and desperate right in the middle of your life and you didn't notice.
A few of you have emailed me to suggest that Cymbalisty's death might not have been suicide. To be honest, with all that's happened, I'm not going to rule that out. But I can't really see why anyone would have killed him. The only possible reason would be the Granier diary. I told my father about that - don't worry, I didn't tell him why we'd been looking at the diary, only that I was interested in the city's history (which is perfectly true). Anyway, he made a couple of gentle enquiries with the police, and they've confirmed that a document like that was found in Cymbalisty's apartment. They'll release it back to the museum when their investigations are concluded. So, if he was killed, it wasn't because someone wanted to steal the last page of the diary. And I can't think of another motive for a crime like that.... Maybe you guys have a better handle on this, not being right in the middle of it. Otherwise, I guess we'll just have to wait for the police reports.
Anyway, the atmosphere in the office has been horrible this week. Anna came to look at Cymbalisty's office - she was a bit red-eyed and upset; I guess since she was about his only friend she must feel a little responsible. And I can't seem to get a hold of Kurt - just at the point when I really need a listening ear, he seems to have fallen off the map completely. I presumed he was with Miranda, but she says she hasn't heard from him either. I'm sure it's just that he's working on some particularly knotty puzzle and has turned off his key's communications functions, but with everything that's happened I can't help worrying.

Oh holy crap. Kurt has vanished eh?
And again, another mention of Anna! We need to interogate her!

oooh we're going deeper into the rabbit hole now. Kurt's dissappeared then, and and who did V speak to, good ol Sente, like he's going to be unbothered about interest in the diary with all his work at Viendenbourg...

That does it. Kurt's been abducted and taken to Viendenberg. Scarlett is going to have to go and rescue him in her new car.
Oh, wait, keys work at Viendenberg. Right, dead it is then!
Bummer. I liked him.

Well, I'm willing to bet that whoever "assisted" Cymbalisty with his suicide also took the liberty of modifying that page too.

I was thinking much the same thing.
The last page ended with "My bed remains forlorn and lonely this night."
Who wants to bet the next page will start out "Everyone is happy again. It turns out saving the puppies and kittens trapped in the mine is going to be easier than we thought! Nothing to see here. Move along."
EDIT: Oh! And if they hadn't modified it before, now that it's in the hands of the police (and our favorite 3P detective) it certainly will be now!

At very least it's going to be a long wait if the page is with the police...
[TINAG](and a good delaying excuse for Mind Candy to come up with a good ending, and route from there) [/TINAG]

*sigh* well I guess we can rule out that Kurt went to Gillit road, met the composer, got handed a package, and went safely home!

I'm fairly sure the composer e-mails were out of game, they are continuing discussion of it over here though, if it does turn out to be PXC related I'm sure they will be moved back....

Hmm. So the piece of evidence that we've been working towards getting for the last month is now in the rather suspect hands of the police?
Don't think we'll be getting that one back then

I meant end to the journal. I'm sure they've got an overall structure for us too, but if they've taken the learnings from cloudmaker they'll be making sure everything is in place before releasing key bits of info. ooops TINAG of course....
