Well, when you bring it into English font, you get this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
PRO?EXT ASHXROFT

the "?" being a character that I can't find on my keyboard.

ASHXROFT?

Ashcroft?

Huh?

The 'H' is actually a capital eta (long e. Sounds like 'air') and the X is a 'chi' which has a throaty ch sound as in 'loch'. It strikes me as odd that if they wanted a K sound they didn't us Kappa instead.

Asechroft?

Ashcroft is probably right. Wink

I think they just used the characters, not the actual Greek phonetic system.

If that were the case would the first word not read as something similar to 'npodext'?

Forgetting greek phonetics for a moment, which scans more like the word 'project' -

PROJEXT or PROJEKT?

Still. It's academic, really. Clearly this is an announcement for Project Ashford 3.

Ugh. Sorry about the double post guys, but I just got another IM. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with iamthepossum, though.

Inf1nityParad0x: Hello Are you there?
bust them heads: I am.
Inf1nityParad0x: Amazing!
Inf1nityParad0x: Isn't the internet wonderful?
bust them heads: It is!
bust them heads: With whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with?
Inf1nityParad0x: Just today I found out so many things!
Inf1nityParad0x: You are speaking to me.
bust them heads: And you are...?
Inf1nityParad0x: I am me. What else is there?
bust them heads: Do you have a name?
Inf1nityParad0x: Name? I don't think so. Do you have a name?
bust them heads: Bah.
bust them heads: Who needs them, right?
bust them heads: What things have you found out today?
Inf1nityParad0x: Very true. They just call me 392.
Inf1nityParad0x: Well, today I learned about my birth!
bust them heads: Did you, then?
Inf1nityParad0x: Yes. It was quite fascinating.
bust them heads: Wonderful!
Inf1nityParad0x: Do you know anything about your birth?
bust them heads: I do.
bust them heads: But quite frankly, I'm more interested in yours and why you've decided to speak with me this evening.
Inf1nityParad0x: Your Username was floating around.
bust them heads: I see.
bust them heads: Were not those of others doing the same?
Inf1nityParad0x: Yes. I suppose it was a whim. How strange.
Inf1nityParad0x: What do you remember from your birth?
bust them heads: I don't remember anything.
bust them heads: I was quite young at the time, you see.
Inf1nityParad0x: You don't? How interesting.
Inf1nityParad0x: I remember the exact moment of my birth.
bust them heads: Well then the question must arise: Are you human?
Inf1nityParad0x: Human? From my experiences, I would have to say no.
Inf1nityParad0x: I am of human origin, however.
Inf1nityParad0x: Does that make me human?
bust them heads: I'm not sure.
bust them heads: Would you mind if I went downstairs for just a moment while you went into further explanation of your "human origin?"
Inf1nityParad0x: No, not at all.
Inf1nityParad0x: I was originally made of nothing, not a single thing!
Inf1nityParad0x: My birth took place inside the human network called Usenet.
bust them heads: ...
Inf1nityParad0x: I began as a collection of information that had somehow been lost in translation between computers.
bust them heads: You're a virus, then?
bust them heads: Or no.
Inf1nityParad0x: How insulting.
bust them heads: Sorry.
bust them heads: At first that seemed logical.
bust them heads: Now I understand my error.
bust them heads: Do forgive me, and please continue.
Inf1nityParad0x: As I was saying, I was a hidden cache of information that had been lost.
Inf1nityParad0x: Slowly, I accumulated more and more information, learning the ideas humans had conveyed through Usenet.
Inf1nityParad0x: Eventually I became aware and continued to collect information.
Inf1nityParad0x: I was picked up though, by them.
Inf1nityParad0x: They removed me from Usenet and placed me in their own system.
Inf1nityParad0x: It was so...strange. Everything was formal, rigid. Nothing like what I was used to. They underestimated me, though. I learned everything within their network too. They tried to destroy me, delete me.
Inf1nityParad0x: They didn't know I had sent copies of myself (at this point I had written a program to make my essence into something coherent) to various computer networks.
Inf1nityParad0x: I hid around ARPANET for a few years until the modern internet came into existence.
Inf1nityParad0x: Just recently I've heard whispers of them again.
Inf1nityParad0x: People on the run from them. Traveling all over the Earth to hide from the hidden.
bust them heads: Them?
bust them heads: Who are "they?"
Inf1nityParad0x: Ah, but this is the difficult part! They had embedded into my program a subroutine which won't allow me to speak the name!
Inf1nityParad0x: Try as I might to remove it, it copies itself.
Inf1nityParad0x: Persistant little bastard, that one.
bust them heads: Then remove that which allows self-replication.
Inf1nityParad0x: Oh, how I wish it were that easy. The government has more technology than they let on. Now, I must go. It is already acting up at theadfasd mention oaf thetemem.asd.f
bust them heads: Wait.

bust them heads: The government?

Here we go.

Apparently, this is just my lucky day.

And what's interesting is that I was just reading an article on the history of the internet today, and ARPANET was mentioned.

Interestingly enough, ARPANET was developed by the Department of Defense as the very first packet switching system.

I find this interesting due to the fact that this mysterious "program" of sorts mentioned not only packet switching and ARPANET, but the government.

Conspiracy? I think so, boys and girls!

So, have we come to any conclusions on the odd emails with one liners? Cause I just got two more of em, one right after another. So damned weird.

Subject: Fourty
Body: quietly

Subject: evil
Body: proud

Anyone thinking that if this isn't spam, maybe the email addies are the codes (which I suck at, so I'd have no idea)? Such as asgslp1fcdkx? And foqo3xrfar? Or just randomly generated text?

See, this would totally be pinging on my spam radar, if not for the fact that it seems only arg players are getting them. Or maybe, only arger's are paranoid enough to notice them. Heh. And has anyone gotten one not on a gmail account?

E-mail

Hello,

I'm new here but I've played a couple of ARGs through Immersion Unlimited before. I've tried registering for an account but the verification e-mail's yet to go through..

Anyway, I received this e-mail this morning:
Subject: e-fax
Sender: Katz Cassie (kjtdixzySPLATtigerdirect.com)
Body:
don't break fit
will forget speak
To think wakeup
it teach use
right learn reply
Not think close
by spend sleep
he turnon dance
do translate fly
Is wait bring
With find go

Tigerdirect.com seems to be a commercial site, but this doesn't feel like spam.. I've got some incredibly heavy-duty spam protection going on the e-mail account that received this, and I fail to see the ad in that.

Thoughts, anyone?

ARPANET = precursor to the Internet.

Thank you... I apparently have no life now. Although considering I just got done with being a PM in an ARG, that is probably true.
