Great work so far on this everyone, not sure actually where to post this but here goes...

As Helix and Viard both deny that

A) they ever put a any message on the CD and
B) they can't hear it on the album cut they have

this could imply (if we believe them) that it was done post final studio mixdown, as otherwise they would be able to hear it (i'm sure if we can hear it a big record company would have no problem hearing it) if this is the case it is most likely that the message was inserted at the mastering stage, either actual stereo track mastering, usally done by a different engineer than worked on the album or at CD mastering stage.

Ha snayone thought of the possibility of the sound being inserted on Earth? Perhaps a 3P agent managed to intercept the file and add it in before Mind Candy sent it off to be published.
