[UPDATE] [DEC 13] Paris and agent90426 directories

paris directory
http://vaporlofts.com/paris/

Trust - for some reason written like "Tru$t" - in big red letters, complete with a definition of the word:
Code:

#1 Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.
#2 Custody; care.
#3 Something committed into the care of another; charge.
#4 1. The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust.
2. One in which confidence is placed.
#5 Reliance on something in the future; hope.
#6 Reliance on the intention and ability of a purchaser to pay in the future; credit.

We have seen this before and know that big words like that usually have a link and this is no exception: http://vaporlofts.com/paris/trust.html

It says:
Code:

trust, faith, confidence, reliance, dependence [again, in - although not as big as the other one - big red letters]
These nouns denote a feeling of certainty that a person or thing will not fail. Trust implies depth and assurance of feeling that is often based on inconclusive evidence.

And there's another mp3, this time accompanied by a picture that looks like it was taken from a tool like Audacity.
Does it suggest we should try the mp3s in such a tool and see something?

agent90426 directory
http://vaporlofts.com/agent90426/

There are some dots now, so it's not completely empty any more.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

It's Braille for How do you fix a leak?
Not that again. Might the answer be another URL?

It takes you here:

http://vaporlofts.com/agent90426/leak.html

And at the bottom, the relevant text, with what looks to be a code. I haven't tried translating it yet or anything, as I'm new to this ARG thing - I found VaporLofts through an online RP comm on LJ, and after some digging, found my way to point_system, and from there to here - but I'm hoping to join in the rest of the way.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
What You Need:

* large adjustable wrench or adjustable parallel-jaw pliers
* flashlight
* rags or paper towels
* new washer of the right size and shape
* omyx exrz (MORETIME)*
* heat-proof grease

---

*text in () is whited out on the page.

Any ideas?

So I did some more digging - the mp3 file this time, ran it through Notepad, which got me this interesting bit of text in the very top of the file code:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

File 0942COMM x eng "What reliance could they place on the protection of a prince so recently their enemy?" (William Hickling Prescott)TYER 2005TPE1 Vaporlofts

Which took me here: http://www.bartleby.com/61/23/T0392300.html

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Confidence, frequently implies stronger grounds for assurance: "Confidence is a plant of slow growth in an aged bosom: youth is the season of credulity" (William Pitt). Reliance connotes a confident and trustful commitment to another: "What reliance could they place on the protection of a prince so recently their enemy?" (William Hickling Prescott). Dependence suggests reliance on another to whom one is often subordinate: "When I had once called him in, I could not subsist without Dependence on him" (Richard Steele).See also synonyms at care, rely.

It seems Vapor has finally started grabbing from other encyclopedias besides Wikipedia.

Though what, exactly, the quote has to do with anything - besides a possible connection to either Paris or Shinpu - I have no idea. I've tried several different paths and page names - so far, nothing.

Eek! Thanks, Ghostmeta!

http://vaporlofts.com/agent90426/moretime.html

We get a new MP3! - Note: This seems to give us the Not Found warning again. -- update again, that's because they mislabelled the link! They have it listed as 0022.mp3, when it's actually 0023.mp3. Sneaky devils! --- third update, it also includes the following text, which I'm guessing is a reference to Sarah Belton:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
She inspects the glass of the plane window, sadly resigned to her fate. "Hello, cold sea," she whispers, and she closes her eyes. The plane rocks in a bit of turbulence.

AND OUR FIRST ACTUAL MOVIE! This one looks chock full of amazing, awesome weirdness, and what seems to be a hot 80s day-glo chick!

And text!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The mind of man is far from the nature of a clear and equal glass, wherein the beams of things should reflect according to their true incidence; nay, it is rather like an enchanted glass, full of superstition and imposture...

- Francis Bacon, The Advancement of Learning, (Everyman), page 132

I've tried a few things, but no luck - can you stegg a .mov file, or is that a dead end? There's too much code there for me to sift through at the moment to see if there's any hidden text, and so far it's all been in the taglines anyway.

I remember someone noting earlier that a few of agent90426's files had been removed from site - looking back over the most recent threads, specifically the one with the 2 remaining unsolved puzzles - does anyone still have the .mp3s discussed in there? Have we checked those thoroughly to make sure there's no hidden text? There's no mention of it on that thread, but these things do tend to crop up elsewhere. (Yes, I searched - the only other mention of the mp3s is a post by mapmaker noting they'd been taken down.)

If someone's already looked through file0077.mp3 or file0752.mp3 and found nothing, it'd be nice to know so we can be sure we're not missing something important to deciphering the puzzles we now have before us.

An interesting occurrence: the word "glass" repeats in both entries, which can hardly be coincidence. Of course, it could just be a false trail; I've tried as many combinations as I can think of for a file named "glass" and I haven't found anything.

ghostmeta: Those files were never there to begin with! See this post for a discussion.

Plus, in case anyone's interested, the wiki's not got much use, but I've been keeping a log of all the mp3s and movies we've gotten so far.

Oh, and by the way, the movie doesn't have any text in it that I could find - except for the URL of the movie itself. So no help there.

Oh, for crying - that explains a bit. Thanks.

Also: I just realized something - remember the /gateway/ page? Remember the link to The Other? LOOK. LOOK AT THE MOVED LINK.

. . . we found the missing movie! Score!

[spec]This means those mp3 might yet pop up, only under a different heading. If it happened once, it'll happen again, I bet.[/spec]

Again: Good catch, Ghostmeta!

There may not be anything stegged in that movie, but there's a LOT to process. We have numbers running, the main image, and what appears to be something overlayed that looks like a reflection of sorts.

I don't have very good video manipulation software, but I'm wondering if there are maybe frames on the cuts?

Woohoo! I finally get to use iMovie!

I went through frame by frame, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Well, anything I didn't see at normal speed, that is. The numbers all seem to increment as timers, and the cuts were clean - nothing in between them.

Oh, and I forgot to say this before: this was a great find! Cheers all around!

Though it seems Mapmaker's already analysed this one pretty well, I'll have a look through it anyway. Not really expecting to find anything but I am bored, so we'll see.

The binary is discussed here. We don't know what the other lines refer to, although we know "non omnia moriar" is from Horace ("not all of me will die").

If you haven't yet, you might want to look at Rowan's guide, which does a great job of covering the large majority of the game.
