If the money is going to a charity I could shift a few hundred copies to my fellow citizens.
I think I could flog another 50 or so to friends and family

A vote for unfiction, we've been bunging up the forum with nonsense for ages. I think I'd probably get an extra copy or two to cover birthday presents for the rest of the year (will it be 50p?).

Thanks for your patience - very sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Our initial publication plan on Earth has gone a bit off-course. Our current plan now is to offer books through Lulu, a print-on-demand service. We will of course be providing complimentary printed copies to all of the authors who have worked with us on this project .
In talking with Mind Candy, we are undecided on what to do about wider distribution on Earth. We may offer the book with no royalty fee, so readers would pay only production costs; or we may set a small royalty fee and donate the proceeds to a worthy charity. Mind Candy of course should not be permitted to profit from your work. If you have an opinion on this as well, we would be interested in hearing it.
We believe that a paperback perfect-bound book in the 6"x9" format would fit your needs best, but please tell us if your group disagrees.
If you would provide us with a PDF file in that format, we would very much appreciate it. Here is information on Lulu's requirements:
http://www.lulu.com/help/node/view/208
As you have also been interested in providing cover art, you will also need their requirements for covers:
http://www.lulu.com/help/node/view/1726
As for the Perplex City edition, we are planning to release the book within the next two to three weeks. We'll let you know how it goes.
All my best,
Ellen
It's progress at least. I'll be converting the format over and sending it off to them today.
I personally believe that the money should either go to the Unfiction forums or to a charity, however as I do not really know how I feel yet then I am going to settle it with myself by stating that I am undecided! lol
In regards to the authors receiving a complimentary copy of the book, I was just wondering how this would work? For example would we all have to send you our postal addresses for you to send onto LuLu, while the book would be consequently paid for by Seaside Press somehow?
Regards,
Stefan

No idea who the free copy is going to work. I don't know if the online version is being scrapped or not. I asked for more info on how to set up the html for the online version and got this response instead.

If half of them buy the book, and the royalty is only $1, that's still nearly $7000.
Yeah I'm fairly sure, I seriously doubt that half of the players would purchase a copy.. considering over 50% of them are just registered as they recieved Gravity in an email... and then a lot of the people not included in that are purely playing just for the puzzle cards not the ARG itself...
I think you'll find that mostly hardcore players would consider paying for a book and those that followed the storyline. Saying that however I will be making a purchse, but I think raising $7000 is way off the mark.

I suppose, but how did they get the e-mail address in the first place?
I figured about half have no interest in the ARG, but $1 is rather low for the royalties anyway. I don't think the book would raise $7k, but I don't think it'll be THAT far off.

A number of friends have asked me how big the book is page wise. Any estimation?

A good place to send royalities would be Unfiction, don't you think?
See the donation link at the bottom of the page...

I would have qualms with sending all the money to UF, but, then again, all the responsible artists are from more, so it's not like anybody's getting short-changed on the deal.
As long as contributors get their copies free...
Way I see it:
52% to UF
16% to Charity A
16% to Charty B
16% to Charity C
Good, no?

I would like to see some of the money go to charity too.

I chose not to contribute, so you can guarantee that I'll be getting a copy - all of the contributions came from UnFiction-ites I believe, so, for what it's worth, I think that the proceeds should go there also. As others have already said, we'll never agree on a charity, and as we don't know the sums which will be involved, we could wind up diluting it down to absolutely nothing if we start splitting it up.
Keep it simple, feed it back into the ARG community.

Although it's a bit insular I think that's probably the bestest idea. 50 charities getting sod all seems to be worthless around the margin.
[bob cratchitt]But thanks for giving my royalities away everyone-as though it's not difficult to feed myself on the mean streets of Brixton[/bob cratchitt]
