Alisdair, put the pic and program in a folder on your c:\ drive in windows. Open the DOS window and type cd.. until you get to the c:\ directory.

Then, if the folder is say puzzle, type cd puzzle to go to c:\puzzle.

now to run the program, type what it says in the help file (eg, program.exe -x picture.bmp)

Hope that gets you through, you can probably Google for similar DOS operating help.

Yes I've been trying frequency analysis for a while - assuming most common letter is what you'd expect it to be. But this doesn't leave many likely options as far as I can see.

And what about last bit, which is

coincidence?

Could there be any reason why the 5th word doesnt start with a capital?

I reckon it will be, but whether it helps with the solve who knows! I'm also not sure about the whack lead, it's interesting, but not sure it takes us anywhere, but then I'm usually wrong anyway...

EDIT: Incidentally I'm working on the theory that this is quite a simple cipher as there is so little to work with, so still playing about with a simple sub. There's also the "clue" that the code is still broken into words (hopefully) rather than blocks, or pairs.

This cipher has been puzzling me for a while now Confused

I'm thinking that maybe the two bold words are the key to the cipher used to decode the first line/six words, but none of the ciphers I try seem to be working???

But I can't spot a clue to the cipher?

On the Frequency Analysis front - the numbers are going to be skewed by the message being so short Sad

yeah I knew the analysis would be out, but it's strange there are so many 2s.

Not a key exactly - but it is required.

It isn't untrue that it is Base64 either - although this probablly won't help much.

I gave a hint earlier in the thread Wink

No guessing required.....it's pretty unique given all of the available information.

Yay more puzzling fun!

Note to mind candy: when your players start writing their own puzzles, they've run out of yours to work on!
