[Xbox 360] FF XI Beta Test I know I've seen a few of you listed as playing the FF XI Beta that was included in this months OXM . Just wondering what everyone's character names are and what server you're on. Please also list what character model you are and which Nation you joined.
I'm not sure if they are using only one server or if there are multiple servers.
My character name is Grifter and I'm on Hydra.
I'm a Hume Male Warrior in Bastok.

I don't plan to get back to mmorpg's, but I'm curious to hear your impressions. How's the integration with players on other platforms? Can you use voice chat?

For the beta test all the 360 users are on the same server, thus you can't tell how well it integrates with the other systems (PC and PS2).
Overall the graphics look great. I used to play this on PS2 so it's definitely a step above that experience. With the wide screen format it makes you fell like you are a part of the game since you can see a "normal" field of vision.
I was interested to learn from a friend that Square Enix was switching away from the PS2 version of FFXI due to Sony's lack of support for the Harddrive. (I.E. Sony didn't live up to their end of the bargain and add features that HD could support.) As a result of this the next FFXI expansion pack will be for the PC and 360 only.
As for Voice Chat, you can do voice chat but you have use the 360's chat channels, as FF XI only supports text messaging.
I am trying not to get sucked into a mmorpg too. I've had too many friends get sucked into them and let their real lives suffer.
I really hope that FF XII comes out 360. If it does I'll be there to buy it on day 1.

Clearly, what this game needs is more DreamOfTheRood.

I'm one of these guys. Nothing serious, but it was affecting my life more than I wanted to. I love the mmorpg concept, but the existing ones are just too hardcore for me. It'd be cool if something like guild wars would come to the 360! Or even something original for more casual folks. And FFXI is exactly the opposite of this! I had friends playing more than 4-5 hours a day ...

I might buy it too. It would be my first FF game ... /ducks

To be honest I played and wasn't impressed. Granted it is the first MMO that I've ever played, but I also played it with DeathDefi and we both agree that it's a little plain. Granted I'm a bit jaded from all of the action games I play but I also play strategy games. Which are slow and GR2 which is also slow paced so I really don't know how much of a factor my love for things going boom has to do with this. And that is my conversation with myself for the day.

Does anyone on these boards play FF11 for the pc? I got a 30 day trial with my laptop and I'm going to install it later today.

I haven't started playing FFXI yet, there was some sort of mixup at the manufacturing place, I had to call to get them to send me all my rebates n that free trial disc. I'm still not even sure that they've sent it yet, but I should get it eventually.
On a side note, does anyone know of any good games out with demos or trials? I don't have any games that will stretch the capacity of my new laptop because my last computer had a mere 64mb video card and everything else in it was pretty underpowered too. The most advanced graphical game I have is Halo Ce, Any other ideas?
