I agree that there's nothing wrong with a new "faction" arising. I'm saying that in order to keep the game realistic we're going to have to stop giving him info, the same way we'd do in real life. Nothing wrong with that, that's just the way it is. Smile

Or, if everyone was willing and respected the decision, you could always just carry on as normal, but have each side stay In Character, and therefore not divulge any information you haven't found yourself. VERY had to accomplish without giving in, but this was exactly the reason I had to give up trying to play with the bad guys in... ohhh.. darn.. what was it?.. Where I was Solitaire, with ChronoTwist and friends, whatever, anyway, it was too much trouble to try and sort things out. So... meh.

Actually, ignore me, I just haven't said anything for a month! for ARGs...

Well, that sounds fair to me. Shall we try that?

Anyway, MG is on right now. I am horrible at this IM thing... (I tried to make him doubt the info Rusty gave him, but I think I made it worse Very Happy)

[13:16] gurrtin: How are you doing? Found your brother yet?
[13:16] MurderedGenius: Not yet.
[13:16] MurderedGenius: I'm doing well, however.
[13:16] MurderedGenius: Yourself?
[13:16] gurrtin: We've hit a bit of a snag
[13:16] MurderedGenius: Oh?
[13:16] gurrtin: Since one of us decided to begin helping you
[13:17] MurderedGenius: I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about.
[13:17] gurrtin: I see
[13:18] gurrtin: You mentioned last time that you would like to fill us in better to help us decide whether to trust you. Have you considered this any more?
[13:18] MurderedGenius: I still don't think you can trust me.
[13:19] gurrtin: True
[13:19] MurderedGenius: I'm leaving it up to you, really.
[13:19] gurrtin: I see
[13:19] gurrtin: Well, as a show of good will, here's a tip: Don't trust us either. Even those who would help you.
[13:19] MurderedGenius: I never considered it.
[13:20] gurrtin: Of course Smile
[13:20] gurrtin: Say one of us wanted to help, hypothetically, what could one do to prove himself to you?
[13:21] MurderedGenius: Most likely, one would have to give me as much information as possible on John's whereabouts.
[13:21] gurrtin: I see
[13:21] gurrtin: And how is that going, by the way? Are you getting closer?
[13:22] MurderedGenius: Yes.
[13:22] gurrtin: Well, I must be going. May the best man win.
[13:23] MurderedGenius: Yes.
[13:23] MurderedGenius: Take care.

Another email from John P - I hadn't responded to his earlier one, as I was (still am, to be honest) at a bit of a loss where to go from here. The email simply says:
Quote:
I need to send you a message. Please reply with your address.

I've replied saying I'm cautious about giving out details, and asking if it isn't something he could send via email. This is normally the line I don't cross, but something in the back of my head is screaming "Swaaaaag!" Very Happy

At the very least it breaks the fourth wall to say "Oh well, we don't care that we're being ratted out, it's just a game, the PM's will fix it". Personally, I think I'm gonna keep my info away from Rusty for IG reasons, since that's what I'd do if this were real.

The breakdown of the fourth wall, imho, will be if the PM team chooses to ignore this development. If they are prepared and creative, they should (again, imho) certainly use this in an in-game fashion, even if it only influences the storyline a tiny bit.

Folks, this decision by Rusty just made the game more real, not less real. Why you are painting him with the bad guy brush just doesn't make sense to me, right now.

Thanks.

You really have got to not worry. I choose a different side this time! So what? I might choose the good side next time! But it's a good idea to keep your clues and such from me! That's good! But god, don't say I just killed UF! You just can't trust me in THIS game. You remember in ilovebees, when the one guy ratted out Dana? That was early on! That didn't kill the whole thing! But for now, i leave you with this:

Quote:
Rusty0931 (8:57:35 AM): hello.
MurderedGenius (8:57:40 AM): Greetings.
Rusty0931 (8:58:02 AM): How did it go? Did you figure anything out?
MurderedGenius (8:58:32 AM): The bottom location on the path is NYC.
Rusty0931 (8:58:38 AM): Yes.
Rusty0931 (8:58:51 AM): And I think I have decided...
MurderedGenius (8:58:57 AM): Decided what?
Rusty0931 (8:59:13 AM): ...to side completly with you on this, Alex.
MurderedGenius (8:59:31 AM): I appreciate it.
Rusty0931 (8:59:44 AM): Oh, and sorry about the different screen name.
MurderedGenius (8:59:50 AM): No problem at all.
Rusty0931 (8:59:53 AM): Bit of a mix-up.
Rusty0931 (9:00:07 AM): Okay, so, I have a question.
MurderedGenius (9:00:11 AM): Shoot.
Rusty0931 (9:00:33 AM): Where are you?
MurderedGenius (9:00:57 AM): Japan.
Rusty0931 (9:01:03 AM): ...Can you hold a minute?
MurderedGenius (9:01:06 AM): Yes.
Rusty0931 (9:01:53 AM): Back.
Rusty0931 (9:02:04 AM): So you're in Japan, correct?
MurderedGenius (9:02:12 AM): At the moment.
MurderedGenius (9:02:17 AM): I'll be flying to NYC tomorrow.
Rusty0931 (9:02:35 AM): I see.
MurderedGenius (9:02:39 AM): Where are you located?
Rusty0931 (9:02:51 AM): Los Angeles, California.
Rusty0931 (9:02:56 AM): Just moved here.
MurderedGenius (9:03:01 AM): I see.
Rusty0931 (9:03:23 AM): Actually, a section of LA, off the coast a little bit.
MurderedGenius (9:03:34 AM): I've been looking over a few satellite photos.
Rusty0931 (9:03:43 AM): What did you find out?
MurderedGenius (9:03:53 AM): The upper location is Rochester, New York.
Rusty0931 (9:04:04 AM): Oh.
MurderedGenius (9:04:08 AM): Which is an interesting thought.
Rusty0931 (9:04:14 AM): Why?
MurderedGenius (9:04:32 AM): There's a testing lab for Project Ashcroft in Rochester.
Rusty0931 (9:04:39 AM): Well, well.
Rusty0931 (9:05:11 AM): The others that have spoken to you have been reciving puzzles from John....
MurderedGenius (9:05:20 AM): Have they?
Rusty0931 (9:05:24 AM): Thast's how they obtained the map.
MurderedGenius (9:05:33 AM): He's leading them to him...
Rusty0931 (9:05:35 AM): Strange word puzzles.
Rusty0931 (9:05:41 AM): Right.
MurderedGenius (9:05:56 AM): Has he sent any other images?
Rusty0931 (9:06:04 AM): I don't think so.
MurderedGenius (9:06:11 AM): Alright.
Rusty0931 (9:06:13 AM): Wait...I think we got a letter.
MurderedGenius (9:06:19 AM): This is an interesting twist.
Rusty0931 (9:06:37 AM): What, the letter? Or John sending stuff?
MurderedGenius (9:06:50 AM): Either.
MurderedGenius (9:06:53 AM): What did the letter say?
Rusty0931 (9:07:10 AM): Well, I can't remember it from heart.
Rusty0931 (9:07:22 AM): But..I can pull it and link it if you like.
MurderedGenius (9:07:30 AM): If you would, thank you.
Rusty0931 (9:07:36 AM): Hold on a second.
Rusty0931 (9:08:03 AM): Oh no...
MurderedGenius (9:08:09 AM): What?
Rusty0931 (9:08:11 AM): AOL just crashed.
MurderedGenius (9:08:17 AM): Oh dear.
Rusty0931 (9:08:22 AM): I can't link it to you now.
Rusty0931 (9:08:54 AM): Is there any way that you can be online in an hour or so? By then I'll be back home.
MurderedGenius (9:09:01 AM): I'll be online all day.
Rusty0931 (9:09:05 AM): We're going out to eat soon.
Rusty0931 (9:09:10 AM): All day, eh?
MurderedGenius (9:09:14 AM): Mostly, anyways.
Rusty0931 (9:09:19 AM): That'll be a treat to some..
Rusty0931 (9:10:07 AM): So...you're in 2005, right? I mean, this isn't some weird time thing, is it?
MurderedGenius (9:10:14 AM): What?
MurderedGenius (9:10:17 AM): Of course it's 2005.
Rusty0931 (9:10:23 AM): Yeah, okay.
Rusty0931 (9:10:35 AM): Cause, I've never heard of Ashcroft.
MurderedGenius (9:10:44 AM): It's not exactly public knowledge.
Rusty0931 (9:10:47 AM): Before this..
Rusty0931 (9:10:52 AM): Makes sense.
Rusty0931 (9:11:43 AM): Do you have any more information on Ashcroft, like names of people in it?
Rusty0931 (9:11:56 AM): It would be helpful in earning more trust.
MurderedGenius (9:12:16 AM): There was Josephine Francis, John Peterson, Naomi Goldsman, Alyson Wilder, and that's as many as I know.
MurderedGenius (9:12:37 AM): Names are kept so highly confidential, I couldn't get enough clearance to even see what level of security they were.
Rusty0931 (9:13:06 AM): Well, that's interesting..
Rusty0931 (9:13:12 AM): I need to leave.
MurderedGenius (9:13:15 AM): Alright.
MurderedGenius (9:13:19 AM): I will speak to you again.
Rusty0931 (9:13:24 AM): Stay online, and you'll get the letter.
Rusty0931 (9:13:30 AM): Today.
MurderedGenius (9:13:38 AM): Okay.
Rusty0931 (9:13:41 AM): Goodbye.

Well, I spoke to him, but I'll just be keeping the info to myself. Seeing as I'm on the other side and all.

Nice triple post. I personally don't think someone really sounds professional when they do that. Is it bragging I hear...? Well, bragging or not, I've been watching this ARG since about the second, but I think I want to try my hand at it. Are "good guy" slots still open? If that's a hopeful yes, everything for contacting is in my profile.

(Yes, I know that this is my technical first post under NoiseLessLime, but I got a new computer and lost everything from the old one.)

I'm not following this particular game, but after reading about the current 'situation' I think I might have a possible resolution. Would it be possible for you guys to create seperate threads for the 'good guys' and 'bad guys' and just have an agreement that you either dont look (highly improbable) or use information from the other faction's thread? With everyone withholding information due to differences in gameplay, the people that truly suffer are those that have chosen no side, lurk, or just want to see how each turns out. Who knows, maybe playing both sides will bring an extra dimension to the game for more complete fun for everyone.

It's just a suggestion, hope you guys can all come to some sort of resolution for a fun experience. Good luck to you ALL.

PS- I do have to agree with the unnecessary triple and quadruple postings, use the Edit button please. That has nothing to do with gameplay, simple forum common courtesy.

Even for me, the temptation would be too great.

I think keeping opposite-side discussions (because we're still not TOTALLY sure which side is which) in PM would be best, but still use this area for introduction asking to either side, or general news which both parties are pretty much aware of.

Well, uh, it sure would be nice if you would include more people in these PMs. This ARG is confusing and difficult to follow enough without players withholding information from the community.

I don't think we're trying to withold info. And sorry about the many posts..

Actuall, I didn't post the information because I accedintally closed the IM before I copy/pasted it.

I think we should get a list of the who's who, who's on which side, yadda yadda...
I like the idea of different forums...I think I'll start one for the "Alex Allies". Everyone siding with Alex (Meaning me and Bob, my imaginary friend) go there and devise...DEVISE. Which I suggest you share info with PM that you dont want the other side to see. otherwise, use that thread..

I'd be up for the separate thread thing - although as Rusty has already noted, the Alex's side of it is going to be pretty quiet Razz

I really don't like the idea of playing by PM, it kinda ruins the community aspect of things. And as already noted, it's not exactly fun for those that are less active. The separate thread thing could work, as long as we all play fair - you can look, just don't use the info. And I'm sure our PM's will manage the situation so it stays under control Wink

And as Ofiuco pointed out, if you're going to play this thing by PM, could you include a few more of us please.....

Anyway, back to the game.... I emailed John to let him know that Alex is on the way, and tell him to get out if the map showed his location. And I'm awaiting something in the post, too Smile

That, and you're sure not going to pick up any new players that way.
